I didn't know BigLots had food. I thought they just had stuff like Bed Bath & Beyond and novelty items.Just read that myself. A year ago I'd have been kind of upset. I use them almost exclusively for food. They get interesting items at good prices. A new GroceryOutlet opened in the same strip center BigLots is in, and they have more of what I'm looking for at equivalent prices. It's distressed merchandise, so it's cheap, and always changing. Makes it fun shopping, and I can try premium goods at a discount price. If I really like the item, I can buy it later at full price, but it didn't take a lot of money for the gamble.
I don't want to see BigLots go away, but it won't distress me either.

Capitalism is a misnomer. Any entity that relies on inflows of income is going to face the same issues. How to avoid having costs greater than incoming revenue. It just so happens that a large swath of Americans make terrible treasurers of their own inflows, never mind external entities.-Maybe it wasn't an insult?

The food selection used to be better. I'm not sure what happened. They got cleaned out during the pandemic, and never recovered. Maybe their buyer died/quit. Usually a fairly large section of canned and boxed goods plus snack foods and drinks. They tried to go grocery for a while with dairy abd frozen so they could take the SNAP/EBT cards, but the prices were too high for the small package sizes.I didn't know BigLots had food. One of the Reddit post was complaining about how in recent years they would unload a truck full of stuff they knew they'd be tossing in the dumpster in a few months because no one would buy it. Oddball home decorating trinkets, wall hangings and cheap off-brand kids toys.It's kinda ironic that BL and Dollar Tree have struggled so mightily these few years. You would think in a high inflation environment that consumers would need cheaper options. Obviously execution was flawed, as Walmart and other options such as Grocery Outlet have been successful.

To me, the place is almost like a Target. I have towels, bedding, clothes, electronics, hardware and kitchen appliances I bought there over the years. Even the small swim pool in my back yard came from there.
Thing is, along side the name brands are odd things like real ginger ale, Asian sauces and types of boxed cakes and cookies grocery stores don't have. It's like a treasure hunt sometimes and I've come out of there with some really good stuff I've never seen anywhere else.

The point is not you pathetic strawman that capitalism isn't real. It's that the behaviors associated with it exist very much independently of the features of capitalism(flexibility in price setting and that private individuals can form companies by paying the government).

Recently my husband had some mobility issues and we were looking for a power lift recliner. We shopped several furniture stores and he found one he liked. It was Broyhill and varied in price from $699 to $899 plus delivery. We went home and I remembered that there was some Broyhill furniture at Big Lots. Checked their website and what do you know? They had the exact same Broyhill power lift recliner for $389 with free shipping. When it arrived husband wasn't home so I unboxed it and put it together. Took about 15 minutes and surprise! surprise! It worked.
So yes, I will miss them.
