I'm not so sure of that, at least so far that it would affect the election results. The death of one treasonous, fascist asshole is not going to make millions of Americans suddenly not care about about losing their country and civil rights. We'd probably see big parties nationwide, "The biggest threat to democracy since the Civil War is gone, ceeeeel-librate tonight, C'MON!"

Women still mostly hate the guy. He thinks Taylor Swift's support is irrelevant, that she "won't move the needle." I guess someone neglected to inform that greasy dipshit that Swift commands crowds big enough to move seismograph needles, in multiple countries.

And then this morning, "I hate Taylor Swift." Hahaha, sounds like someone explained things to shithead.

Trump suddenly not being in the picture would lead to chaos in magaland. His hollow empire collapses while all his shiteating cronies (and family) turn on each other fighting for scraps and places of prominence. I wouldn't expect political success and advancement out of that.

Hmmm, fair points - I don't really know. Just instinctively think that shooting one guy is never going to achieve anything good.

It _could_ lead to splits and endless infighting among all the slightly-different MAGA factions, who currently have a single figurehead to unite behind.

But it could also motivate less-enthused and currently-slightly-less-fanatical-Republicans by convincing them there really _is_ an evil Democrat conspiracy to 'get' them and a danger from Antifa/the far left, and thus they need to put aside any doubts and rally behind whoever the new hard-right flag-bearer turns out to be (especially if any such assassin turns out to be clearly of the left, rather than a confused paradoxically-right-wing crazy person).

It's certainly likely to confirm the worst imaginings of the hard-core extremists, and thus increase the likelihood of them acting on their beliefs.

I believe in the (judicious) utility of force.

I thought shooting OBL thrice in the face achieved a fair amount of good. Sometimes you need to shoot the guy's wife too, see Romania.

Not supporting the idea of assassinating political candidates, but dammit...if these idiots are going to shoot at Trump...I kind of wish they'd git er done right instead of feeding his legend...and giving him bumps in the polls.

And immediately sending out emails wanting more campaign contributions from his rubes.

You’d think they could just go back to 2016 and tell Hillary to campaign in Michigan a bit more.

He could be on to something. Time travelers from the future may not have any experience with this type of this situation. Firearms are probably banned where they came from. There has been more activity at Skinwalker Ranch and one hypothesis is that it's time travelers riding around in the silver orbs.

If he gets a competent attorney, and doesn't talk to police without them, I don't think they have any basis to charge him that has been revealed so far. Which just points out how completely messed up our gun laws are in the U.S.

Just saw on the news the guy is actually a convicted felon.

So, he's fucked.

What an asshole, and spoken like a magat. He shouldn't have that job, obviously.

Up there on the list of things for a functioning government to attend to is doing something about America's entitled sheriff problem. Their delusions wrt Constitutional rights must be addressed and American communities need an effective way to remove sheriffs that are unfit for office.
Sheriffs are generally elected. So the sheriff will generally be as crazy as the electorate.

Meanwhile looks like someone has had too many diet cokes. Caffeine and Trump don’t go well together.

Literally the self-awareness of a child. We all know he’s the master of projection but damn he’s thick.

Does anyone know what these false statements were made by Kamala? Because I don’t recall any. And certainly not related to the whole Haitian lie. So my conclusion is he’s literally lying about a lie.
And talk about rhetoric, “unpardonable sin” which is just magnificently rich, and obviously the asinine communist trope isn’t great but that’s just standard now.

Agreed, but that doesn't mean they don't need clear Federal guidelines as to their powers of office. For example if you support insurrectionists or think civil rights are a la carte and up to you, well you aren't eligible to run. I think we have an Amendment that spells it out thankfully.

Keep the elections, all voters have to do is nominate sane people fit for office. If they decide to pass on that, well that's their call. Have the Governor choose an appointee from a list approved by a federal court in the event no one is elected.

Is that a tweet? (or whatever things on "x" are called - eXcreta?) Or is it from his Twitter-knockoff site? Seems a bit long for Twitter.

And what's with his weird approach to the use of capital letters? He starts off capitalising words seemingly at random ("Rhetoric" "Lies" "Debate" "Political Opponent") and then starts capitalizing entire words at random, before eventually just hitting the caps-lock.

I'm pretty sure that pinkish (I'm terrible with colors) checkmark means it's his Truth Social platform.

For whatever reason I thought that asshat Sherriff was in FL....seemed like a natural presumption.

But, Ohio. Normally I can't throw stones, but damn...they are trying to take our crown of crappiest politics. Lots of other contenders of course. Where that fucktard was elected, time to gtfo for anyone with a brain that is able. As noted, he's probably as shitty as the people who elected him.

I find the terminology of all this quite peculiar. So here's "the President" thanking God that "the President" is OK.

I get that former presidents are still referred to as "President" (weird though that is, in itself), but why do they still get the definite article? They can't all be the President, surely by definition only one of them is the President. The others are merely "Presidents" and any one of them would be "a President".

Surely he means "thank God that other President's OK"?

[Edit] I mean, no wonder Trump gets so confused as to whether Biden, Obama or Donald himself is currently in charge. The terminology really can't help when someone's as old and demented as Trump.
Today you really got hung up on these little bits of language where the intent is crystal clear to everyone.

I don't think you're normally a pedant around here. Not that I can recall, at least.

To segue a bit, one of the ironic things about the American presidency is that since the founding of the republic, it has morphed from the highest elected office in 1/3 of the government to what the Founding Fathers never wanted it to be. A near monarch. Not so much in sweeping powers or permanence, but in the relative stature of the person. And with SCROTUS vastly expanding executive immunity, the sweeping powers becomes ever more dangerous...

Two things
First assuming the debate was rigged, why would that force him to spout off topic bullshit? Also didn’t he claim to win the debate by like 90-plus percent?
Second, sounds like he is pro gun control now and I would love to have that talk with him.
