We ended up testing driving a 24 Mach E Premium AWD with extended battery - $54k MSRP and a 24 EV6 GT Line $59k MSRP. This is for my wife and she was driving, but I liked them both and she did too. There were a few things that the Mach E did better and vice versa, but overall the Kia seemed to fit what she was looking for just a bit better. I can go into details but I doubt anyone cares. She could have went either way in the end.

Price was the biggest factor though. I was able to take care of her lease early and told her she can get one yeterday, so these were the incentives for June:

EV6 - $59k MSRP
*$7500 Lease Cash
*$1500 Kia incentive for on lot 2024 EV6(2025 is coming soon and it's a refresh)
*$1500 off MSRP from dealer
*57% residual and a 1.9% APR
= $530 a month on a 36/10

Mach E - $54k MSRP
*5250 Lease Cash
*500 off MSRP this dealer...probably could have shopped around for another $1k but she stopped me
*55% residual and a 3.5% APR
=$685 a month on a 36/10 ($650ish if I got that extra $1k off)

I haven't posted much in this thread. I had a pile of issues with my Premium 2021 AWD Extended. It was in the shop for weeks for a variety of issues. Most recently an OTA update nuked the ABS module.

It's a hard vehicle to wrap my brain around. I loved the concept of it. I appreciate the needle that Ford had to thread to keep enthusiasm for the name along with mass market appeal that is needed for a $50k + emotional purchase.

It's a great looking car and did so many things better than the competitors. But it drove me crazy.

So many glitches and oddball shit happened to mine. And I was working with crappy dealer that hated the EV stuff.

I was at a point in my Options plan where Carvana would buy it out for within a couple hundred bucks of what my balloon buyout was.

And we sold it.

Now that said, I wasn't off the EV train. We loved most things about the concept.

I did a lot of homework the last few weeks.
Tried an id4 and wanted to like it, but I couldn't get my legs under the steering wheel.

Wanted to love the Ioniq5 and tried to like it. But it just wasn't comfortable and didn't have any personality. It was just a tech laden golf cart. The seats didn't fit me well and I could never get comfortable in a driving position.

I loved the Land trim EV9 and looked at them three times. It was incredibly comfortable, the UI and physical button implementation was vastly superior to Hyundai. Like Hyundai is an Ice Cream sandwich era Android IU and the Kia is a modern era design language.

I loved almost everything about the EV9 but my wife thought it was too big.

We looked at Acura ZDX and the one we drove had a center dash screen that wasn't working and every blinker noise and chime was pumped into the cabin at ear bleeding decibels. The sales guy visibly winced in the back seat when I used a blinker because it was so loud by his ear.

It was a terrible experience. You could tell the sales guy hated the experience as much as us. Tough sell.

Ford had reached out to me though a post on the Mach-E forum and I got hooked up with a dealer that took much better care of me. Got an engineer on site and actually did the recall on the high voltage junction box along with fixing the ABS module problem.

I had a Ford corporate CSR following up daily and I get the vibe that they are really trying to improve the car.

When we got the car back with the replacement HVBJB it was like a different car. Like a restriction plate got removed. But it was still crippled by a suspension I hated. The suspension on our 21 premium was punishing and I often preferred taking my Ridgeline around town. It was just more comfortable.

But we really liked a lot about the Mach-E's and struggled to figure out if it was a bad car or bad program.

So on a whim I was trying to look at dealer inventory on premium extended AWD models in Eruption Green. And just by freak chance I find little local mom and pop place that has a 2024 GT on the lot.

You can't find them right now.

But we did. And we drove it for like 2 blocks and I was like... Yes we are buying this car. And my wife just says "thank you, I'll let you drive it sometime".

I don't have a flying car, but this is close. It's seats and suspension are so much better than my 2021. I feel like I'm driving a rocket. It's so fast and effortless to drive. My wife and I just went carving back roads all weekend in the mountains and giggled like kids.

It's the most fun car I've owned. It does 0-60 in like 3.7 seconds. Is comfortable to my almost 50 year old ass. Can haul a family of 4 and a big Costco cart of stuff easily. Is zero emission. Fun. And $14 a tank to fill up in my driveway.

This is the car of the future.

We went to the Portland auto show back in February and looked around at the whole EV section. My wife spotted the Eruption Green there and instantly fell in love.

Our Rapid Red '21 was a fluke that we ended up getting. It was a dealer demo that wasn't listed anywhere. We took it for a long weekend and put enough miles on it for the to sell the demo. At the time most dealers were gouging $5-$10k. This place just said "sticker ok and you take it home tonight?"

The red was fun. But was never her first choice.

Things just lined up to find this one.

I'm not shy about the problems I had with our 21. It was a lot. But Ford really seems to want to be engaged and improve the car.

This is a nice summary of why we came back to another one after the first was a rough experience.

It's just a lot more like a car than an appliance.

Prior to test-driving the Lightning, I called the Mach-E the best car I'd ever driven. Don't like the Mustang aspect as an S550 enthusiast, but nobody calls it that anyway lol. It really does feel like the car of the future - a more refined Tesla, with creature comforts & a better overall design. I thought the vertical screen & center knob in the screen were weird until I used them...soooo much better of a human interface than a Tesla! Plus Carplay!! And it drives like a CAR!

I've been wanting an EV for awhile now, but I haven't moved since COVID started & my current rental only has outdoor parking with no charging available. I was hoping the 500-mile Cybertruck would be my ticket, but the 470-mile version now costs $116k & isn't even available until next year. And I was secretly hoping they'd have the Roadster 2.0's mythical 620-mile battery as an option!

The green looks OUTSTANDING btw!

If you can't charge at home I wouldn't get an MME. You need something with 800 V charging if your only charging is DCFC.

If you can't charge at home then you are missing out on a significant quality of life improvement that having an EV provides. And I did look at the Korean siblings for the charging speed. But honestly, one of the things I was reading about was they charged so fast that they were done before people got a chance to walk around and go to the bathroom.

If I went to a high speed EA charger at the grocery store and plugged it in, it would charge and be idling before I was done shopping. Heh. That's a good problem to have...but also the speeds of the Mach-E were never my challenge.

It was always the reliability of infrastructure. Being able to take 250 kwh charging rates is fine...but useless if the EA station can only feed you it at 100. That's always been my issue. It's not that my car was the bottleneck. It was always the station.

I also just can't get over how much better the MagneRide suspension is on the GT. It's not even the same platform at this point. I don't know mechanically what was so dog shit about the Premium suspension we had previously, but I hated it. It was the worst combination of being sloppy when it shouldn't and brutally punishing when it shouldn't. Like the opposite of what a suspension should do.

The GT is like driving a german luxury sport saloon. It's just heavy, solid, planted, firm and unflappable. It's just crazy how effortless this thing moves and how easily you can point and flick it. I've never owned a car like this in my life. We put 500 miles on it over the weekend just goofing around.

If my kid were a year closer to college I'd be looking at leasing an Ioniq5 for her. Can walk away with those for under $200/mth lease and free EA charging for 2 years. That's cheap and dependable college transportation.

The non-MagneRide are over-sprung and under-damped as a way to try to accommodate limited suspension travel. I wish they offered the MagneRide as an option on non-GT.

Congrats on the new MME! I love that color. It looks beautiful. You made the right choice by not going with some shade of silver or gray with a little bit of blue mixed in.

Eruption Green is a fascinating color. The golds that come out of it in the sunlight are something. And it's all green here all the time and it's kind of camouflaged against a treeline. It's eye catching up close but just another green Subaru from a distance. 😄

Yeah the metallic paint is amazing when the sun hits it. You're going to love it. The suspension is a little stiff even with the MagneRide but way better than the Select or Premium trims. I guess it's just the price you pay for an SUV with a sport tuned suspension.

Anyway, Ford really got their shit together with the 23MY/24MY. The experience is so much more polished compared to the 21MY and the 22MY. The infotainment experience is also much better then at launch.

Just don't get your hopes up about OTA updates. Ford manufactured a great first attempt at an EV but their OTA update process still sucks. I'm guessing you know this but I'm throwing it out there just in case you don't.

Are you going to pay for the GT Performance Upgrade or does yours already have it?

I kinda just want to turn off OTA and not deal with them. But the IT person in me screams existentially at that thought. No performance pack right now. It's stupid fast enough as it is. My wife is already gonna get in so much trouble. She doesn't need any more enablement.

Haha, yeah the OTA process Ford has leaves a lot to be desired. It can certainly have you wondering wtf were they thinking.

Anyway, if you decide to pay for the GT performance upgrade let me know what you think. There are some vague reports on the forums about how awesome it is.....but yeah.

BTW my offer still stands. Next time you come this way let me know. I'd love to see a pair of Mach-E's going down Grand View Drive then taking 116 to Spring Creek Road to take them through the twisties. Free charging if you come my way!

I recommend turning off the OTAs shortly before the bumper-to-bumper warranty ends as Ford has proven they will not cover OTA-caused failures out of warranty.

For any of you deep in the weeds on the MME or EVs in general. Ford built and all new in house motor for 2024 to replace the Borg-Warner motors used in previous 21MY-23MY Mustang Mach-Es.

Sandy Munros channel managed to get a hold of one out of a Lighting and did a decent but fairly quick over view of it. A lot of it went over my head but what I did get I thought was kind of cool.

Anyway, here is a pic of the old Borg-Warner motor on the left next to the Ford designed motor on the right.

If anyone is interested here is a the video from Sandy's channel.

Here is a link from Ford Authority for those who prefer reading over a video.

It really is a fascinating color. I also got my Tesla adapter in yesterday. Now I get to see if I can actually manage to charge at a Supercharger with their 3' long charge cable on the wrong side of the station.

I've had mine since June and while it's a little tricky but once you get used to it you will pull right up no problem.

I'm traveling from Peoria IL to Cleveland OH and back this week for work and so far I've charged at several Tesla stations along I-90.

I did this trip last year but only had access to EA stations and having Tesla as an option is a game changer.
