Look up Ryan Walters. He's a full on nutter who rode the wave of fear mongering over trans, gays, CRT, sve the children etc into office.
Ah, I see, full-on fascist Christian Nationalist on display, of course he's got no critical thinking skills to speak of.

Dude's gotta have a goal, don'tchaknow?

He continued: "It has been my goal to make every country, leader and civilian around the world mad at me. While most hide in the shadows and cover their face for every photo I will sacrifice myself if need be to push the war and the world forward."

In his writing, he added, "I will certainly have made every citizen an enemy of me, but the goal is for them to hate me as much as Putin and hopefully render an even greater resolve."

He went on to say he was "one insignificant man" and to "let the mafias and kill squads hunt me down and end my life."

If he went full Regan he should be out there promoting new gun safety regulations.

Reagan wasn't particularly in favour of gun laws, was he? Even after being shot he was still on team-NRA, as I remember it.

It was the wife of his press-secretary, as I recall, who got very onboard with that, after he took one of the bullets intended for Reagan and never really recovered from his injuries. I vaguely remember hearing that she became quite unpopular with her former social circle and husband's former colleagues because of that.
Maybe I'm misremembering things.

Nothing seems to move the dial very much when it comes to Americans and guns. It's just a death-loving culture, rather like ISIS in that respect.

[Edit] Perhaps I should say 'American Conservatives', to be fair. In that respect it would also encompass attitudes to climate change. Just a death-cult, all-round, really. Conservatives might _have_ children, but they don't seem to like them very much.

Just all over the place. So he supported, in turn, Trump, Sanders, Gabbard, Ramaswamy...and has made comments anti-Russia, anti-China, anti-Israel.

The Christian nationalist fascists have taken up waging a culture war dividing the nation with the heaven sent determination that they are the "true Chosen Ones" that have the God-given right to force the unclean heathen to their knees via legislating their Christian beliefs into law. They aren't content with being fully and freely left alone to practice their religion as they see fit. Oh no no no, they don't feel safe with all of the carnal decadence and unholy chicanery going on outside of their sanctuaries so the only thing to do is to take over the government and force their will on the unbelievers by creating a theocratic dictatorship, a Christian version of ISIS as it were, claiming that all Americans will bow to the Will of the Christian God....or be punished for sacrilege Old Testament style to make it stick.

The kicker here is how the corrupted Republican Party leadership have made an unholy alliance with the Political arm of the Christian Fundamentalist sect, preaching political dogma from the pulpits of the nation's churches. What can go wrong?

All Y'all gunners talking about range and yardage .....

What's the longest kill shot?

I remember story that made the news about a Canadian Sniper that took some body out in Iraq at something like 3,000 yards

Wiki shows these:

In June 2017, an unnamed sniper from Canada's Tier 1 special forces unit, Joint Task Force 2, surpassed the 2009 record by over 1,000 m (1,100 yd), with a 3,540 m (3,871 yd) shot in the Iraqi Civil War. As with the previous two Canadian records, a McMillan TAC-50 with .50 BMG ammunition was used.[1][2]

In November 2023, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a special agent with the Security Service of Ukraine, later revealed to be 58-year old sniper Viacheslav Kovalsky, surpassed the previous world record by shooting a Russian soldier from a distance of 3,800 meters (2.36 miles), (4,156 yd).

Side note, Canadians have funny names for their units:

Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry

Can't be expressed how unique those situations are btw, it takes a lot of skill, luck, and specific environmental conditions to make a shot like that successfully. That said, it's impressive as hell.

That long a distance accurate shot also takes curvature of the earth into account so shooter or victim were at least a little elevated.

I'm kinda curious what the bullet drop of a 7.62 from an M24 is though beyond 500y vs a .50BMG

The Ukrainian record shot apparently had something like 1300ft of drop on it. Just ridiculous.
Yup, at that point it's almost a ballistic trajectory haha.

Good question, .50 has a huge punch but it's also really big, more drag on it. I'm guessing it drops less regardless though.

Edit: very rough numbers anecdotally online: .50 drops 12" @350yds, ~275' (feet) @1.5mi.

The Ukrainian sniper is a really interesting setup. He's apparently got custom made rounds that are suped up in a way to increase velocity and increase accuracy at extreme ranges. Looks to be some US company involvement with the manufacturing.
