Would this be good for game storage? If so is this a good price or wait for a better deal on something else? This was $75 - $85 last October.
If it is one of the new wd black with the hardware bug there is a good chance it will break in less than a year with total data loss; so i would look up if that bug has been fixed and if this is one of hte fixed drive.

Thanks - just installed one in my wife's computer - dang! Thankfully, I do weekly backups. I'll have to check into this.

I bought one of these on Prime Day in 2022...I paid about $190 for it...so, yeah, this is a damned good price. FWIW, I haven't had any issues with it or the 1TB version I bought a year ago for about $65.

The 2 WD SSD's I I have in use are 1tb SN-850 Blacks (original version) and I also have a 500gb (also an original version) in a box as a backup.

It was just $24. Not worth the hassle. Just disappointed that they would lower their standards this low.
Well, if you are disappointed, I would definitely return it. Especially if there is free return shipping. They shouldn't get away with it. Where did you buy from?

From a big chain of supermarkets here. Just going there and explaining to non-technical people at the customer desk that this isn't meeting performance expectations sounds futile. So not gonna waste time on that.

Not a bad price...and it does say 3 year warranty, but currently as mentioned on Slickdeals, it is sold by another seller, not Amazon directly.

It's FBA so you get 30 day returns.

A 3 year warranty is fine, but indeed we don't know what their RMA setup is like.

I checked and that Amazon seller is actually Ritek (same physical address outside of Los Angeles), so that wouldn't concern me. But I couldn't find any comments on Reddit about how they are with customer care, so that could be a risk. Considering they've been around since 1998, this probably isn't the worst idea if you need a cheap 1TB SSD (TEAM Group is $55).

Doesn't seem that great; crucial 1tb is about $10 more.
Crucial BX100 is $63, or 45% more.
TEAM Group AX2 is $50, and I consider them reputable (also a Taiwanese company).

As mentioned, this deal mainly applies to older systems. Modern stuff is better served with NVMe.

My son has been using 2 TEAM SATA SSDs as game folders for years now. I have been using some of their nvme models for years myself. Never any problems with those either.

The price on that RI DATA is low enough to risk buying. Keeps the cost down on rehabbing one of those old office boxes as a gaming PC.

Well you might think modern system use nvme but i use sata all the time because well most mb can have up to 8 sata but only 2 or 3 nvme.

I use 4 x 4TB SSD's in R0 to saturate the SATA6G bandwith.

It gives me 16TB of game storage, and doesn't require a single PCI-E Lane.
I also have a 4TB nVME for games, but i only put stuff which is horribly optimized, like EA, UBISOFT, Rockstar, and other garbage companies which can never program right on release, in that folder before i move the many many post launched patched versions over to my SSD R0.

The 16TB SSD R0, probably cost me about the same as what my single 4TB nVME costed, because we know how stupidly expensive things were with storage once u pass that 2TB wall, with the exception of regular HDD.

Well i guess 4TB nvme's have bottomed out in price now, but for me to do 4x4TB nVME in R0, i would need a full 16x PCI-E lanes, which basically means i can never be on a regular gaming CPU.
