I recently acquired an old Penryn-era Core 2 Extreme X9000 (2.8GHz) CPU to replace the T9500 (2.6GHz) I had before in this Vostro 1400. I even splurged and got what seems to be an original/genuine era-correct sticker that I applied to the laptop.
For anyone curious: 4GB RAM, SSD, updated Wi-Fi card (802.11ac capable Intel card), and it's running Windows 10 decently.
Assuming this thing is running full tilt, which I think it is... it's running surprisingly cool, as it doesn't seem to go over 45C when running say a 720p video on YouTube (which it barely manages by the way, which is hilarious but also expected). Thing is it's always set at 2.8GHz, supposedly. Is this normal? I really don't know.
I have CPUID and HWMonitor installed, see below:
Asking because I want to make sure everything checks out. I just find it strange that it's running so cool when the T9500 before it tended to get a bit warmer. Maybe I just applied the thermal paste extra well? I don't know.
