Parry is overpowered in Bloodborne. It's the easiest From game because of it.

Ok, for whatever reason, the ER parry mechanic from day one had been very easy and felt natural to me. If that's the case, I think Bloodborne will be pretty easy for me. Even Lies of P, once I got the parry timing, it was pretty easy. I'm sure Sekiro will be quite easy for me, once I get used to the parry.

I find bosses where you can't parry much more challenging.

PS - Laxasia was easy to parry, especially her levitate in the air missile lightning garage--just perfect parry all of them.

Elden Ring I just love dual wielding uchigatanas too much to do a parry focused build.

Sekiro you're not just parrying, you also have to deflect long strings of attacks where you don't have a parry window. But then they throw in the occasional boss you have to fight like a Dark Souls game where it's more important to dodge and get enemies turned around and such just to troll you when most of the game it's all swordfight mechanics.

Oh, I haven't played Demon's Souls. Forgot about that one.
Demon's Souls has these grand cinematic bosses but they're all easy. One of them is just running to three giant ballistas for example. Forgivable since it was the first game in the genre for them, but boss quality greatly improved in Dark Souls 1 and later. Still very worth a playthrough as it has some awesome level design and the PS5 remake is beautiful graphically.

Sekiro is definitely harder than Bloodborne and Lies of P. It might come naturally to you, but don't be surprised if it remains quite challenging.

This is encouraging and I look forward to when I do get to the game, finally. My problem is that I can only focus on one game at a time, otherwise the controls & combat mechanics will mess me up.

For Lies of P, I didn't get to it until they nerfed it, I suppose. Except for the first fight, the Circus monster before you enter the hotel, because I was getting used to the dodge and parry timing, the subsequent bosses weren't much of a challenge, relative to ER DLC ones [Rellana, Bayle, Messmer (sans blood build, which destroys him), and Prime Radahn]--King of Puppets may have caused me to improvise? Oh, the Swamp Creature required me to utilize a longer weapon with further reach.

One of the appeals for Sekiro is their rep of being a very difficult game, but I'm pretty sure the parry mechanic (even if I have to tap, tap, tap) isn't going to be a major obstacle. Wukong was very good, but I felt most of the bosses were a little too easy. So, I hope Sekiro will at least have some ER DLC calibre boss fights.

Of course, I enjoy dual wielding too! Dual Bandit Curved Swords is one of the play-throughs I had enjoyed the most. However, if I have a weakness in ER, it's that I use parry as a crutch. For instance, with Crucible Knights & Bell Bearing Hunters (especially the one in Caelid), I'll just parry, and have never fought them fairly with pure dodge & hit.

I'm going through wukong black myth right now on pc and it's pretty good. Souls like bosses and enemies but you don't really lose will or souls. The enemies get much harder throughout the game but it's not open world like elden ring. It's enjoyable because the areas are big enough to explore and you can create some nice builds with the skills and unlocks.

I enjoyed the game very much.

In my view, it's an admirable first effort and quite remarkable for a studio's first AAA-like entry into the genre. While it isn't perfect (what game is?), it certainly holds it own.

Those Concord guys thought of their game as the "future of Playstation." Well, unlike these Concord devs' delusions of grandeur, Game Science actually has a place in the "future of Souls-like" games. A week or so ago, they sold 18 million units, and have surely surpassed 20 million at this point. Even with the majority of their sales in China at $40, they'll rake in a billion usd. So, moving forward, they've made their bones with a very successful game with excellent initial fighting mechanics and will have almost unlimited resources to pursue their next title. From what I've read, it'll be based on a Chinese General, and they've promised to deliver more robust fighting mechanics.

Unlike whatever Sony is doing, this is exciting. Let's have the Lies of P Studio and Game Science give Fromsoft some competition, and we can all enjoy a golden era of those wonderful fighting Souls-like games.

Pretty exciting time for gamers, really.

Did you like Wu Kong as much as Lies of P? The reviews say the boss fights are a little easy but everyone I know who has played Wu Kong loves it. Also if you love games with tough combat check Sifu. Best indie I have played in a long time.

Ah, they're comparable, but I like Lies of P more, mostly because I'm more familiar with the Belle Epoque era and ambience.

However, after my initial blind playthrough, I've begun to watch some Chinese youtube creators explain the Wukong story to a Western audience, and look forward to my next session (with a walkthrough this time). I've never been great at puzzle solving and exploration, and more of a player who just wants to go fight. Even if collecting X number of items to make a fight easier, absent a guide, I'm always going to try the fight first. The beauty, in my view, of these Souls-like games is the ability of one to defeat a foe at whatever level with whatever equipment, if skilled enough.

As to the combat, again IMHO, I don't think it's as refined as Lies of P. In my view, the perfect dodge roll bonus is a nice addition, but the overall dodge roll is generous enough where most attacks are easily avoided, especially for gamers not afflicted with turtle like reflexes (yeah, those Candy Crush gamers & journalists who are constantly insisting on a super easy mode to every fighting game ever made). The combat system once acclimated to becomes intuitive and though with several branch trees (smash, stance, and thrust) with multiple fighting styles within its respective school isn't as robust as Lies of P. It's essentially one weapon (aside form a spear variation) and all combat success, at least for me, stems from maxed charge heavy attacks. In other words, irrespective of which style one prefers, it all boils down to utilizing the light attack to build up focus to unleash a heavy. Also, there are special items which renders many of the harder boss fights easier, but I only found a few of them. What I can say is those items are not necessary to defeat the bosses per se but will make the fight "fairer."

There are a few exceptions here and there, but most bosses I've encountered posed little challenge. However, I do need to note that I utilize the full arsenal of Wukong's power, and the game would be much more challenging if I had restricted my fights to only light & heavy attacks. While the bosses do get more challenging during the later stages, with the see through smash (hyper-armor), I don't think they're too hard, but it does require one to learn the bosses' moveset.

If I hadn't played my 1200+ hours of ER & DLC and 100+ hours of Lies of P and were entering this genre for the very first time, Black Myth: Wukong probably would have been more fun than starting as a newbie in either of the prior titles. I played ER as a complete newbie who hadn't played a video game in 10+ years, and it was the hardest start to any game I've ever played. I mean, all I did was die. A newbie embarking in Lies of P who isn't adept at parrying will have a miserable experience. A newbie in Wukong with at least average reflexes could just button smash & dodge his/her way to success, a much lower learning curve, if you will. Even if you lose a fight, Wukong gives you hope because you can hit the enemy, whereas in ER (especially DLC) & Lies of P, reflexive button smashing will generally lead to a boss fight feeling impossible.

In closing, given what Game Science has accomplished here, I'm so looking forward to their next Black Myth installment where they've vowed to increase combat robustness. Given their success and resources after BMW, that next game will be amazing. They have enough street credit with me where I'll preorder the title, as I would with the Lies of P sequel and any Fromsoft game.

TLDR: Lies of P is better; Wukong is better for the newbie casual gamer.

Lol scalpers already selling their bot services for up to $10k offering people a way to secure an order on the 26th.

No one will be able to get these consoles (30th editions ) unless you buy from a scalper or are extremely lucky. Besides we don't even know the pre order date and time so it could be at midnight.

Must be my timing then. I'm in NJ.
Yea that is odd, I'm right outside of Philly in the suburbs and on my random trips to these stores I would see them behind the shelves in the electronics section.

Either way now should not be a difficult time to get a regular model. You may end up with a great deal from folks on Facebook marketplace trying to sell theirs if they upgraded to the Pro model.

Brings back memories of opening my Apple App at the stroke of midnight for some of the iPhone launches.

When on the 26th will purchases be available? Midnight? Morning? If I can't get the 30th Anniversary edition, I'm going to pass on the Pro. After giving it some thought, it's just not worth it.

Steam has Nioh 2 on sale for $27, which is what I've been waiting for. Thanks for the recommendations for this title; I'm going to pick it up right now.

My first Team Ninja game since they decided to go soft on Ninja Garden 2. I'm assuming I'll see blood in this game, otherwise it'll get refunded within the 2 hour window.

PS - The Ninja Garden games are also on sale. It appears, there's a mod which restores the blood & gore in the 2nd game; so, I'll probably pick that up too. This was probably my favorite game on the PS3. Great thing about PC gaming is the ability to mod away devs' stupid stuff in their games.

No specific time has been announced for the preorders. If I'm up at midnight I'll check PSN direct but while I'm at work I'll have to stay logged in and refresh the page to see when they go live.

I liked that the anniversary edition comes with a dual sense edge controller. I just wish they had improved the battery on the edge controllers.

Likewise.

I'll log on at the stroke of midnight to see if I can secure one of the 30th Ann units. Because the Sony PS is an icon of my generation and something I'd really like to have on my mantle. This is probably the only game console where the quality of the games itself is a secondary concern. Well, it could play ER, and that's enough.

What are the odds we'll see positive news on a Bloodborne 2 or Remaster? 0.001%?

That thing's going to both be crazy expensive since you have to buy the stupid $200 DualSense Edge and impossible to get.

Probably because the 30th Ann looks great to me and I'm a pretty big time Sony fanboy. I came of age during the era, and it's always been far and away my favorite console (I'm definitely a Playstation guy, never owned an Xbox or Nintendo!).

Should I miss out, it's not something I'd lose sleep over. However, it's something I'd like to have; and, unlike during my university days (these consoles were a luxury I could never afford), whatever it costs isn't a big deal for me anymore.

I also wonder how it's going to work for preorders. Do you enter the queue for one console version only at a time, or is it a general queue and once you are out of it you select what edition you want to buy?

I never used PSN direct during preorders before so I'll try for the anniversary edition but if that means I get stuck in an hour long queue and then find out it's no longer in stock by the time I'm out of the queue, then I also lose out on the regular Pro edition if it happens to be a queue specific for each model.

Yeah, that would be an issue for a gamer who wants the special edition, but would also want the regular Pro, if the 30th isn't available.

Though, for me, at this point I'm no longer interested in the vanilla Pro. If I get lucky and score one of the 30th Pros, great; if not, there's so many PC games waiting for me on Steam, I can wait for PS6.

PS - My conundrum now is to play NG+ Wukong, start Space Marine 2, or begin Nioh 2. At the point, I'm leaning towards Nioh 2.
