With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

See here for the GFX940 specific commits
Or Phoronix

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

No. All the software support and marketing talk from AMD suggests sooner than later. But partners and inventory suggest later.
The weird thing is this talk about UDNA when they have RDNA4 in the pipe.

AMD need to stop hyping up future product waaaayyyy too early.

It's understandable in my opinion. Almost no one buys Radeon graphics cards. The magnitude of the Osbourne effect is minimal when you sell nearly nothing.
Meanwhile the AI hype is still worth something. Which means they need to focus on DC parts. But they want customers to know that this won't kill Radeon. There will also be a future for their Radeon products made possible by re-unifying both lineages.

AMD did just finish building a new office at Markham, RTG is very much alive and well.
I'm looking forward to new roadmap updates at the 10.10 event and whenever they launch RDNA4.

So is there any consensus about a release timeframe?
Your guess is as good as anyone else's guess.

My guess, right now:

Clearance sale of old stock in Nov.

Reveal of RDNA 4 post launch of PS5 pro (along with FSR 4 with AI/ML)
Soft/paper launch at end of year, post 5080/5090 launch
Hard launch in new year or after that

I think it has more to do with RDNA4 having no high end products and AMD wanting to let their faithful customer base that will buy their high end cards know that there is something in the pipe for them and that don't have to resign themselves to buying a GTX/RTX card instead if they're willing to hold out for a while longer.

This is just a repeat of RDNA1 where AMD sat out the high end for a generation to get everything on track for the future. They have pokers in a lot of fires right now and just don't have the resources to fully deliver in every market. Unfortunately, high-end consumer GPU is not one of their major business segments these days. Hopefully that will improve with the move to UDNA and AMD will operate in a similar manner to Nvidia who double dips with their consumer and professional GPUs which lets them subsidize the cost of developing those GPUs and lets them offer such large dies for consumer products.

So seems devs add more RT

Hogwarts - Players will notice new visual reflections and ray traced shadows in all environments
Maybe for RDNA4 3rd effect Ambient Occlusion from PC is heavy or CPU limited

Alan Wake 2, where the mood and environmental story-telling are essential, bringing ray tracing to the game as a brand new feature adds another layer of immersion.
seems no PT even at 30 fps

Almost no one buys Radeon graphics cards.
Out of ~34 million people on steam, 15% have an AMD GPU, over 5 million people and that's with steams notoriously unreliable hardware survey. Its not even close to "no one" and if AMD wants to gain market share they have to be competitive and keep iterating like they are.

IDK why yall emotionally invest yourselves so much. How is talking about future roadmaps hype?do people think AMD is just gonna suddenly up and turn around on all of their partners and customers to not make money? From my perspective nothings changed, AMD has been on this slow methodical pace since polaris, and they're even kinda open about it. Though I really wish they'd tell us ANYTHING about RDNA4.
The weird thing is this talk about UDNA when they have RDNA4 in the pipe.
In the toms interview Huynh name drops RDNA5, so UDNA might actually be a bit far out.

You have some kind of prejudice against them
You are misreading it if that is what you got from it.

AMD over the last few years has a history of pulling gotchas on the industry, so it wouldn't be a stretch for them to be telegraphing RDNA5 and UDNA separately despite being the same thing.

So in the end, does all this fuzz mean there will be no rdna5 mcm gpu? Do amd give up permanently with the multi-SED approach?
What rumor mill has atm?

It will happen, but some things have to happen first.
Any reasonable company invests relative to the TAM, chungus GDDR parts have a fairly small TAM for the R&D required.
NV does it because they have the scale in the lower end, the high end sells the low end to a sizeable degree.
AMD needs scale first, then all the pieces ready for a clean kill.
The really extreme games that would benefit from this level of compute are basically all NV tech demos, that is a losing battle from the start.
For a clean kill, you need to give them nothing.

Now that it is clarified that launch will happen only in next year (after clearing navi 31 stocks), AMD could launch the cards for a reasonable price (rather than $600 if launched today)

N48xtx 16gb 64 CU — $550
N48xt 16gb 56 CU — $450
N48xl 12gb 48 CU — $350

N44xt 8gb 32 CU — $280
N44xl 8gb 28 CU — $240
