Unless you *need* 48GB (unlikely) it is better to get the faster 6000 CL32 memory. Otherwise you are gimping your CPU >5% in a lot of tasks with the slower memory. If you have access to a Microcenter those bundles seem like fantastic deals.

As for the Corsair RM750e, I have one of them and it powered a 12600K/4080 Super rig without issue. It's a little noisier at high loads than the RM750x series, but I think it was $75 ish on sale (2024 pricing) so I can overlook that.
Everything IEC said. Also, your CPU has integrated graphics.

Now it won't even post ! It has a large aftermarket heatsink, and a CS 450 Corsair power supply. It sort of powers on for a second, then shuts off, no bios screen. Its DOA now.

Did you get a chance to test out another PSU?

I only have 10, but been too busy with other things. I am going to recycle it anyway

I get it. Though if you should reconsider, also try reset CMOS and fresh batt. Some Haswell systems had a propensity of the embedded controller EC ROM becoming corrupted for no evident reason. Reset (or BIOS reflash) would solve some, but many others were not recoverable via common methods.

I think I'm going to do this. (Bundle - There's too much stuff along the lines of the case, drives, etc. for me to think about replacing them and selling the full system. Also: Intel K series means no iGPU, so I'd need to sell my 1060 with the system) Do you have any thoughts about the 32GB version of the bundle vs. the 48GB version for $10 more? It would use this RAM: https://www.microcenter.com/product...sktop-memory-kit-f5-5200j4040a24gx2-fx5-black 5200 CL 40 seems like a decent downgrade from the 32GB version, which is 6000 CL 32, but as the car guys say "there's no replacement for displacement."

On a different topic, what are the thoughts on the Corsair RM750e as a PSU? If we're assuming that I've got an upper midrange CPU like the 7700x and a similar upper midrange GPU of say 300W or less, is there any reason to go bigger? I'd have a HDD or two and a couple SSDs. I may even drop in the legacy DVD drive that's still in the case. (I might have even used it as a DVD drive once since I upgraded from the Phenom 2 940 & AM2 board!) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BYR1BXC6/ref=ewc_pr_img_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1

EDIT: The Labor Day Sales are up. I can upgrade from the 7700X to a 9700X for $50 more, or a 7800X 3D (different board) for $150 more. All have the same two RAM options 32GB of fast-ish or 48 of slow-ish for $10 more. https://www.microcenter.com/site/content/bundle-and-save.aspx
Just a note: Intel K series does have IGPU, KF is the sku without an IGPU. I have always tried to support intel, mainly as an opposite reaction to the AMD "contingent" (not the word that comes to mind, but I don't want an infraction) on these forums, but unfortunately, right now I cant really recommend anything from Intel except maybe an i5 for a budget system. Hopefully ARL will be competitive and more efficient to at least give AMD some competition.

Update, (very late but sorry about that) I Grabbed the 7700 bundle with the smaller amount of faster ram, along with a Hyper 212 which fits just perfectly.* I went with a 1TB 990 SSD, which was also on sale, and I will say that the act of figuring out what to do with the heat spreader and install was scarier than most CPU installs which had me freaking about bent pins. I also went with the Corsair 750.

Overall the build went near flawlessly. I've got a little worry about the front panel connector being jammed in there with too much torque because it's hitting the HDD bay support, but no other complaints. I also accidentally got a near perfect blackout setup and want to replace the last three SATA cables or just ditch the extra drives to complete it. (even if nobody will ever see it because it's a windowless black box designed to look like the monolith from 2001) I don't know if you can even still buy the thing, but I'm more and more impressed by this case. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RORBQSW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Really dumb question I could probably google though: is it normal for it to be running at 1.14-1.3v? (and normally at the top end of that range) The thermals are way within spec barely hitting 60*, so it's not like I messed up the cooler install, but I had a laptop K8 at 130nm that ran with like 1.5v.

Nice! How is it gaming wise? And did you keep the 1060 for now?

I’ve got two windowed versions of that case in my office right now 😂. One is my business PC and the other was the host of my dead Gigbayte motherboard in that thread, now resurrected!

Edit: nope, I was wrong. Thats my Plex/Biking sim case, so I only have one! The Corsair cases of that time were great, imo. Priced right and functional.

That should be fine, the chip will auto adjust frequency and voltage based on load. During high load single thread especially, one core may boost to around 1.3V or so, perhaps even a smidge more.

@maniac5999 If you haven't thrown away your previous mobo, you could upgrade it to this after the latest BIOS update: https://www.ebay.com/itm/175757579914

Might be fun to see if that CPU with 128MB eDRAM breathes new life into the old system and gives you playable framerates. But only if you are ever feeling bored and want something interesting to mess with
