i just bought this new board asus z490f but the thing is having frequent disconnection issues. it drops then works fine. event viewer shows many e2fexpress issues as well
long standing problem with the intel i225 series. I have v.2 in my motherboard...same crap. Internet will be fine for days...or even a couple of months...then nothing. Rebooting almost always fixes it.

FWIW, I've had two Ryzen boards with Realtek chips that did the same thing. Usually a disable/reenable of the onboard ethernet connection fixes it, but a reboot is less thinking.
Some resolutions that worked for some I remember reading last year...
try a different cable from reputable brand/vendor
try a different router
using latest Intel drivers from Intel (29.3.1) not from mobo manufacturer
disabling some Energy Efficient Ethernet, Green something power savings
check interwebs for latest NIC oprom/firmware
check for BIOS update for mobo
setting the link speed from "auto negotiate" to match your connection supported by the router. e.g. If router is 1Gb select that, if supports 2.5Gb then select that, not auto.
There is like a thousand threads about it on the interweb forums.
