Russia has a lot of control ($$$) over Central Europe. And some supposed EU / NATO members.
1: They are absolutely talking about TurkStream.Funny enough much of this agreement probably depends on Ukraine being cooperative and not ending Russian gas transit as planned at the end of the year. The Russians are paying Kyiv a billion a year for the use of their pipelines to supply gas to Hungary, Slovakia, and Austria. TurkStream is technically an alternative but it doesn't have the available capacity to shift more than a relatively small amount of this over.
