Thermal right rgb cooler
Silicon power or Corsair rgb 32 gb(new egg has a deal, if it lasts I figure why not)
Silicon power u60 2tb ssd
Asrock 7800xt

That should be fine. Any of those items may get subbed if you find a good deal on something. When I built my daughter's PC in December 2022 I put the maing components that I knew I wanted to use on a list and then watched places like Slickdeals, Newegg, Amazon, etc for deals on PC parts. I ended up with a great deal on a PSU and M.2 drives. Got a small sale on the RAM and motherboard. The case was brand new so no deals on it. Went with the best price I could find on the GPU. I bought everything over like a 2 week period shopping for the best deals at the time. Probably saved about $100 over my original parts list.

I’m doing pretty much the same thing at the moment. The rgb ram sticks were about ten bucks more, but also just better quality as well. I picked those up, found a 40%off deal on a Sama sv02 case, and grabbed the psu linked in this thread. I’ll probably order the ssd today, if you have any recommendations on motherboards I’ll take it. The motherboard is the most confusing part to me so far, all I know is I should probably stick with the b650s. I believe with that case I need some sort of motherboard support for the rgb fan hub

At 8:15 on this video it shows there is a fan/RGB hub included with the case. Looks to be a standard ARGB (this is the 5V model with 3 pins) header needed.

Are you going for a white or black build? The case supports iTX, mATX, or ATX motherboards. I would go ATX for expansion capabilities. They typically offer more M.2 slots than iTX or mATX. Plus it will fill out the case better. I like MSI motherboards, AsROCK gets a lot of priase here as well. I can help you find one. Any specific things you need on the motherboard? B650 should be fine unless you just get a great deal on X670. X870 just came out so probably no deals on those yet.

Im going with a black case, and will do orange accents(maybe orange cable extensions but not sold on the idea) I don’t have any strict requirements. I made sure the case would support atx, but I’d like wifi to be included and hopefully not need a bios update. Thats pretty much it, I guess a ssd heatsink for the look of it, but not really high on the priority list

OK, here's a couple I like.

$149 at Newegg after $20 promo.
Wifi, 2 M.2 Gen 4 slots, top one has built in heat sink, 2 ARGB headers. plenty of other connections like USB-C, USB 3 for front panel I/O. Limited USB on back compared to some others. BIOS Flashback button.

$185
Wifi, 3 M.2 Slots (one Gen 5) all with heat sinks, 2 ARGB headers, lot os rear I/O including a USB-C, BIOS flashback
My daughter has this board. It's been pretty good. A few quirks here and there but nothing major.

$189
Similar to the Gigabyte board above.

$199
MSI Tomahawk boards typically get a lot of praise. Lots of rear I/O. 3M.2, 2 with heatsinks.

I suspect the best deals will arrive for Black Friday, so I wouldn't be in a huge rush to order components this week.

For example, the RX 7800 XT looks like it's $470 now (was it $450 2 days ago?) and the all-time low was $430 two weeks ago. I have no insight on retail pricing, but I expect it to hit $410 for BF/Cyber Monday.

Also, the "holiday returns" window should open up soon with Amazon, which would give you until mid January to return stuff to the retailer. Otherwise you'll have to deal with the manufacturer for RMAs. I think the PSU for $80 was indeed a great buy, but you can otherwise be patient and try to maximize savings.

I’m definitely feeling a bit impatient, but I’m only jumping on really good deals while I wait for holiday sales. The gpu is definitely something I won’t buy until I start seeing those deals. And I want to make the gpu/cpu the last items I buy just to be sure there isn’t issues with those two, in case I have to deal with returns.

These all look great! Thank you! Is there any harm in shooting for the cheaper option here?

As long as it has the connectivity you need, no. If you were putting it a 12 or 16 core you might want a board with better vrms. But for the 5 cores it's fine.

Awesome, I’ll probably pick the first option up once I’m home. Unless you think a good motherboard may be one of the items that would go on sale for Black Friday?

There's a possibility. Since the new boards were just released we may see some deals on B650/X670. Or places like Newegg may have a bundle deal.

I feel like I’m starting to get into the rabbit hole of being ok with spending more money. Is the 7800 a good card for the setup, or should I just pay the extra $80ish for the 7900. Or even go over to one of the 4070/80 models altogether. Also I think I’d need to go with a higher end cpu if I were to do that but not entirely sure

That's an easy hole to fall in to. For your use case the 7800 is more than sufficient. It will do 1080 and 1440 for most titles with pretty decent frame rates depending on the game. If you were to look at the 4070/4080 the 7800 is on par with the 4070 for raster performance, but the 4070 is better at ray tracing if you plan to use that. The 4080 is a step up in both raster and ray tracing, but the 4080 is $1000 on its own, your original starting budget. You would also need a larger PSU and a different case for the 4080 as they are quite large. You would also want to go with a better CPU and motherboard at that point.

I think you are in a pretty good price/performance area for PC builds, that $1000-$1200 mark. From there the price increases are not linear with the performance increases. So an AM5/7800 build at $1000 is not half as fast as an AM5/4080 build at $2000 (maybe in a small ray tracing scenario but doubtful) or even an AM5/4070 build at say $1500. But if that's the route you want to go I'll still help you along the way.

I didn’t realize the 4080 got into that price point 😬. I started getting lost in the pool of ray tracing videos and learning what ray tracing was last night. I think I’ll just go with what I’ve decided on, instead of adding another $500 on the budget

I think this should be the last major question I have. Do you know of any decent budget-ish priced aio coolers? Preferably with a temp display. Some of the air coolers, like the thermalright’s just seem massive and, cover up most of the board. Now that I’m considered spending more in the $60-$80 ish range it seems like they’re out there, but they seem kinda shotty to me. I believe the aio’s fans are mostly set to exhaust so is it also ok to run the 2 intakes with 3-4(including the stock exhaust on the case) or would I also need to add more intake fans at the bottom as well?

I don't have any first hand knowledge of the cheaper AIO coolers with a screen. Most of the really cheap ones seem to have mixed reviews. So you would probably want to spend more than $100 on it. This one seems to get decent reviews on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/ID-COOLING-D...23&mcid=030fdd978aaf3ce8be9ae32aa074730c&th=1

Keep in mind that you are now almost spending as much on your CPU cooler as you are on the CPU though. And there really isn't a performance benefit. You will likely get the same FPS with either cooler, just maybe slightly lower temps with the AIO. So this is purely aesthetics

Assuming you are still looking at the Montech XR case? If so, you could just run the intakes with a little more speed to compensate for the 4 exhaust fans. Or as you mentioned you could add a few fans to the bottom of the case for additional intake.

I thought about that over the weekend as well, and tried to look into whether or not it was necessary just for the looks. I found the id cooling a620 and liked the look of the dual tower fan, probably still overkill over a single tower. I think I’ll be set with that one. I’m going to order the cpu and the asrock 7900 gre once I’m home tonight, and that’ll finish up the ordering! I’m still going to take advantage of the Black Friday deals when I build my sons computer.

Alright everything is ordered and here is the final parts list.
It doesn’t account for the case, but I went with the Sama sv02 case(very similar to the montech XR)
The final price ended at $1324 including tax/shipping. I’ll still need to upgrade my old mouse, keyboard, and headset (as well as upgrade my somewhat new monitor to a 1440p) please tell me what you think! I’ll update with photos, once everything arrives and is built. I want to say thanks again to everyone that’s offered help and advice. Especially you in2photos! You’ve been incredibly helpful.

You're welcome, but something I just noticed when looking at the Corsair shift compatibility for someone else. I don't think it's compatible with the montech XR case and possibly not the sama, PC part picker doesn't seem to have the sv02 on it. You may need a different PSU. Since you upgraded to the 7900gre an 850w might be a good idea as Igor mentioned. Not sure about that MSI though. I don't see that model on the PSU tier list unless it's grouped with the rest of the MAG line, then it's a tier C I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Alternative: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3p2KPF

ASROCK mobos are better in my opinion and experience.

RAM is much faster for only a little more and should serve you better with future CPU upgrades.

850W PSU for future needs and better power delivery for even your current GPU.

I’ve already purchased everything and just waiting for it to arrive, I made sure to check the minimum power requirements for the 7900gre (750w) and check with the estimated wattage to be sure. The psu was the first thing I purchased as the sale was linked earlier in this thread. Are these concerns big enough that I should return anything to swap it out?

As I said to Igor, I made sure the power supply still met the minimum standards and that the estimated wattage is still less than 500w in total. I only have videos and reading to go based on, but I thought this would leave enough headroom?
As far as the psu/case compatibility, I made sure the case had the proper amount of clearance for the psu. The psu is only 160mm tall and the case allows for 180mm clearance. Or is the side access for the cables the problem?

Your PSU is ATX 3.0 compliant so it should be fine.
