Hi All! How do you handle hunger or cravings during fasting periods? What strategies or tricks help you stay on track?

Hi All! How do you handle hunger or cravings during fasting periods? What strategies or tricks help you stay on track?
One time decades ago I went 6 straight days without food. It wasn't difficult.

I wouldn't do that now, for various reasons. Had hand surgery 9 days a go for one thing.

I recall a pithy maxim in Zen Flesh Zen Bones (IIRC, it was that book):

I eat when I'm hungry. That's my miracle. - a zen master/acolyte

Of course, fasting is easier if you are engaged in activities, things you like to do or are motivated to do.

Coffee 6am. Hard boiled egg 8:30. Some coffee till noon. Canned chicken or line caught tune. 200 cals. 4pm, triple zero yogurt and maybe some coffee. Water throughout. Yeah, I piss a lot but it's my office. Not being hungry is the key for me. Evening workouts haven't suffered (bike, maybe) and if I eat 1500 cal after, eff it. The full evening meal gets me to no food till 8am+ easier. Over in OT, I ain't getting no fries tonight.😞

I strive for some balance. Doctors tell me "get more exercise." CDC and NIH say "Seniors should walk a least one mile daily, 7 miles weekly or 150 minutes."

If I walk extra miles, I let my appetite guide my eating. But either way, the walking helps burn off the carbs.

Now that I've had my say, I am going down to The Islands Restaurant to get their Margarita and Nachos happy-hour special.

Seniors...long story short, stopped at the golden trough on the way home from DC. Wife asks for 3 senior meals. I look at her like "WTH." Cashier says if you're 60+, you get 33% off. I look at her, look at the wife, look at her...eff me, my 24yo insides missed the memo that I'm effing 60.

Saving $15 wasn't worth it on any level.

Well, I had that nachos plate, and was planning to order a second margarita, deciding then that the first was enough. And I knew I had several cans of sugar-free lime drink at home.

So now, morning next day, I'm hungry. I have energy-draining chores today, so defer the routine walk until tomorrow -- before lunch with a friend.

After I have a coffee today and take a morning evacuation, I'll feel pretty good -- then, the chores in the heat of my garage.

I don't fast, unless you count the time period from going to bed until waking up as fasting. If I thought fasting did any good at all that should be enough to motivate me to just deal with it. However I'm of the opinion that fasting doesn't do anything useful for my daily life, so I eat frequent small meals throughout the day. I usually try to consume carbs early in the day, switching to more protein as the day progresses.

Cravings are something that you cannot control immediately. You have to practice a lot to achieve control over it. For instance that I was having a cheat day weekly now I have shifted to 15 days right now.
