What else are people gonna buy? They'll buy X3D because it will be indisputably the best gaming chip on the market for gaming. It would have been a very different story had AMD launched the 9800x3D chip on Zen 5 launch day. This is the 3rd generation x3D chip. It looks like they are finally getting close to the non x3d clocks.
I'm one of thoseI know it’s partially a reflection of technology stagnation but I can’t understand people that can’t come to grips with the fact they need to upgrade their hardware. I’ve been encountering that more and more in the workplace too, people using 5th/6th gen Intel quad cores refusing to upgrade... “it works fine”….
I think they are waiting for Zen 6. A lot of the PC builders left the market entirely. The 9800x3D is the CPU for AMD this generation. What else are people gonna buy? They'll buy X3D because it will be indisputably the best gaming chip on the market for gaming.
In gaming. The 9950x is great for multi-tasking and the Turin is absolutely a BEAST in server !!! Nothing on the market can touch it !I think they are waiting for Zen 6. A lot of the PC builders left the market entirely. The 9800x3D is the CPU for AMD this generation.
I don't agree with the first point but the last few times I think you're agreeing with me? X3D is the chip that will sell. Yes. That's what I've been sayingI think they are waiting for Zen 6. A lot of the PC builders left the market entirely. The 9800x3D is the CPU for AMD this generation.
Absolutely. There are still high quality DAC's out there that do a very good job; however, you need to get out of Best Buy country to find them and into "pro audio production" .... which generally puts you into a much higher price bracket than the sound cards of old .Idiotic software codecs (every RTLxxxx and such) shouldn't be called sound cards IMO but that's nothing new either.
Too bad hardware accelerated sound cards were killed decades ago (thanks M$).
Anyway, today you need either to get out of the case with digital (hence SPDIF) or get the card of the case (various USB, TB and before FireWire cards).
In case some were still wondering, it can make a *huge* difference, quality-wise.
Most likely. I still maintain that high end desktop (gaming) is not where the money is. I am wondering how long it will be before AMD moves this technology into the data center and workstation market where they can make huge margins with it.yeah... Bulldozer vs. Skylake vibes. 9800X3d could be 25-30% faster in games vs 285K
"Good enough" if you are using the pittiful speakers inside your computer monitor, or Apple Airpods. Using high quality over-the-ear headphones, or a quality PA system and suddenly all that crappy design shines through like a fart in church .Chips likes the ALC1200/1220 are more than good enough, problem is that up to the DAC input everthing work well but once it s converted to analog there s score of inherent issues, analog design is not that straightforward in a highly electricaly polluted environment like a MB.
Agree. X3D will dominate gaming, 9950x will be priced below X3D, but still dominate in MT loads. Turin will continue to dominate in DC (all for this design cycle). In gaming. The 9950x is great for multi-tasking and the Turin is absolutely a BEAST in server !!! Nothing on the market can touch it !
Garbage ram thoughComputerbase updated their gaming benchmarks with power consumption
also measured.
FI the 7800X3D wich reign supreme in the gaming charts has as much as 3x the perf/watt of the least efficient contender.

Will be upgrading to 9800X3D, motherboard incoming, graphics is covered for several years I think since the GTX780 ran Diablo4 as good as PS4.Lol my god. On that change.org one he’s using an 11 year old CPU (despite the fact he calls it 9 years old) with a 4070 Ti. Imagine complaining about that in any other period in gaming history.
“Why can’t I run Halo on my 25 Mhz 486DX” is basically the same gap
“Why can’t I play Crysis on a 166 Mhz Pentium”

I think the demand will be down for 9800x3d after a week

I think people want to see 20-25% better performance from the 9800x3d vs. 7800x3d.nah 5800X3D / 7800X3D already have legendary status
9800X3D has significant uplift so will keep the tradition going strong
it's literally buy & forget for maximum years
I still use my Logitech X-530 5.1 speakers that are at least 15 years old. That wont happen, because the best speakers or headphones have 1.5 to 2.5 orders of magnitude worst linearity than even the ultra lowish ALC887, very good speakers can barely do better than -40dB distorsion and quality headphones can reach -60dB or so, to compare with the ALC887 wich is, as the name suggest, at -87dB.
As for speakers that s what i use, along with a good quality cheapish amp, both bought used, 280€ for the pair of speakers and 20-30€ for the amp, and of course driven by an ALC887, lol.
So Zen6 era packaging/uncore might be only one generation long.I believe others have mentioned it, but the patent itself is about putting dies face to face and "sharing" at least 1 metal layer. The patent then goes on to show/describe a bunch of different ways they could use this, the picture Keplar showed is just one example where, it seems to me, that the bottom die is used for backside power delivery and potentially contains some circuitry as well (some analog and/or Vcache). Then, the 2 stacked dies are on top of an active interposer that would contain the memory controller and other IO. In the end, they could end up using all of it, or just parts, but obviously they want the patent to cover as much as possible.
Previously, AMD has done face to back stacking.

I never understood that. If they wanted developers to adopt AVX, why disable it on the Pentium/Celeron back then? I don't think it's been an issue for awhile since they seemed to stop making anything less than an i3. Is "Intel Processor" still around?
Except the first step proved harder than stealing developer's underpantsIt takes longer than stealing underpants, but at least all the steps are clear.
Step 1: get developers to adopt AVX for the next version of their software
Step 2: sell inferior CPUs without AVX to consumers buying a cheap PC
Step 3: developers release new version of software that requires AVX
Step 4: consumers who bought the cheap PC can't run that software
Step 5: consumers buy a more expensive PC, and remember that lesson in the future to never go cheap again
Step 6: profit!
It takes longer than stealing underpants, but at least all the steps are clear.
It's been that way for awhile. Though it doesn't necessarily explain the mobo shortages for Turin. Did Genoa suffer a similar problem?¹) Meanwhile, some priority customers may already have many rows of racks of working machines many months before the "launch".
I can hear the difference easily on my $10,000.00 PA😁That wont happen, because the best speakers or headphones have 1.5 to 2.5 orders of magnitude worst linearity than even the ultra lowish ALC887, very good speakers can barely do better than -40dB distorsion and quality headphones can reach -60dB or so, to compare with the ALC887 wich is, as the name suggest, at -87dB.
