Ford Bronco Off-Roadeo adventure with wife, pics and video

For those who are unaware, when you buy a new Ford Bronco, you get a one day pass. The Off-Roadeo is a basic off road learners course. It is actually pretty good for those who do not know what settings do what, what 4A is versus 4H, front and rear lockers, sway bar disconnect, etc. You start out with a basic illustration of how the engine, pushed power to transmission, differentials, etc. After about an hour, you get into a supplied Bronco, with a radio and hit the trails. We had 6 Broncos in our group, with the guide in the front. We got out a few times and talked about how to cross a creek, approach angles of obstacles, and many more things. Lunch is provided, and very good, so is dinner. Both are back at base camp. After lunch the trails got much more serious, and challenging. Overall a very good experience, and if you have not gone yet, I would jump on the chance to. You don't have to own a Bronco to go, if you just want to go and learn, have a fun day, you can do that as well. My wife and I used it as a day date also, away from the kids. Started at 8 and we were done by a little after 5. You get a Bronco Yeti for each person attending. We selected a 2 door because that is what we have. As much as I don't want to own one of these types of vehicles it's nice to actually see somebody using it for something more challenging than picking up paper towels at Sam's Club. Looks like fun.

A couple of years ago, the local Ford dealership gave me a new Bronco rental vehicle when my F 150 was in to have the moonroof replaced. It was OK, but nothing I’d want to drive on a regular basis…or as my daily driver.
It was an “Outer Banks edition” with a weird removable soft top.

Sounds like fun, glad you got to experience it. I had a Ford Edge ST in 2019, and they have an ST driving experience also in a couple of locations. I never got to go because of covid.

I harbor vehicular lust for a modern Bronco, but (a) I cannot afford it, and (b) I'm still in love with my 30-year-old orphaned Trooper. For the first decade of my ownership, which began in January 2002, I did as much "off-roading" and 4-wheelin' as I could. But in the last 12 years, it has done mostly highway duty and errand-runs to COSTCO. I don't kid myself, nor should the reader -- I visit my brother and his wife more than once a year, and in the wrong month, with the wrong weather, after reaching the Sherwin Grade on US 395, I'm likely to need the 4WD and the "chains" (cables) as well.

The "Pooper" has reached 204,000 miles, and I have demystified its oil capacity and crushed any vestiges of "lifter-tick" long plaguing my SUV experience with it. Of Course! I"m planning another Turkey Day excursion up the Eastern Sierras in November.

Do I know "where the OP is comin' from?" I'd like to think so. But gone are my days of real off-road experiences. I don't go to Sam's Club for certain reasons, but I get my paper towels at COSTCO. When I look at Foresters and RAV4s, I wonder how satisfied I might be with their cargo capacity. Or the seats. I've never before had a vehicle with the comfort of that Pooper's seats, and I would hope the Bronco-Boy is satisfied with how it treats his derriere after 3 hours continuous driving.

We definitely use it to pick up toilet paper at Costco still! But we do actually use both of ours as their intended purpose, mine more than hers. She has a Land Rover Defender. Both are very capable, and have their own pluses and minuses. I have had the top off 4 months except for one week where I traveled for work and had to park at the airport. We go up to Windrock all the time, its only about 30 mins from us, and have a yearly pass. Here are some pics from last Friday in the Bronco, and the time before that with doors off, and last year in her Defender. Same location, just much different weather haha! We are pretty out doorsy though overall, hiking, camping, boating, etc. Gotta get out there and live.
