Question Advice on how to achieve failover with current network setup

I'm not familiar with Ubiquiti gear, but a MikroTik router can be scripted to support failover. I actually am using a MikroTik RB5009 in my house. I am not familiar with writing scripts for it, but am planning to learn as I get more free time. There's a very healthy Reddit, and plenty of documentation on it as well as youtube videos.

Out of the box, and with less hassle, you can probably use an Asus router, which has both failover and load balancing built in. I am not familiar with the Asus routers, so I wouldn't know how difficult it would be to set up. Considering Asus router's are mostly a consumer level device, it shouldn't be too difficult.

The link below is to the Asus page with info on both failover and load balancing with an Asus router. You'd probably have to double check with Asus routers suppor this functionality.


It should also be noted that there should be Ubiquiti routers that support dual WAN w/ failover. Again, I am not familiar with Ubiquiti gear.

Alternatively, you can setup a spare computer (or virtual machine) that has multiple NICs (or multiple VLANs setup for each of the sources) to perform the routing out to the various networks using pfSense, OPNSense, or other alternatives...
