While I agree it seems to be working as of now there is a sizable chance he will be elected.

Alarming polls in NY (if they're not rigged) but hopefully Gen Z saves us:

Incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Lawler now holds a 49%-44% lead over former Democratic U.S. Rep. Mondaire Jones in New York’s 17th Congressional District, according to an exclusive new poll from PIX11, The Hill and Emerson College.

In NY-17 the issues have remained stable, according to polling, during the final month of the campaign. Thirty percent of voters in the district said the economy is the top issue, followed by immigration at 20% and housing affordability at 15%. There is a sharp gender divide with Lawler doing 27 points better with men and Jones doing 16 points better with women.

The poll of New York City’s northern suburbs may also be an indication of how the presidential candidates will do in the more crucial suburbs of Philadelphia and Detroit. Vice President Kamala Harris leads 50%-47% in NY-17. Former President Donald Trump leads 49%-48% in NY-18.

In 2020, President Joe Biden won both districts by approximately 10 points.

COVID killed a ton of Republicans since then.
But also Biden / Kamala are now the incumbents holding the bag / getting the blame for COVID.

It's ridiculous, but those are the cards we are dealt. This election should be nail biting and unique.

Just a hunch, but I think he's playing a character when he does stand up. If you watch Kill Tony, the way he acts and the shit he says, there's no way he's not gay. He even says he's gay, but he's married to a woman and according to people who know him he's not gay in the least. He's a shock comedian with heavy racial humor, but some of his best friends are non whites. I'm not defending him or his jokes, but I think his ultra racist spiel is all an act to get him attention.
I could see the joke landing in the proper context, which wasn't this.

In case anyone did not get the memo, or they'd like something short and easy spoken to explain it.

The Red Mirage / Blue Shift.
A feature of our differences and the election process.
A weapon of stupidity that Trump used in 2020, and that you KNOW Trump will use again next week.

Prepare for and know the MAGA lies about the election. They are coming.

Must say I'm very confused at the fact that it works entirely the other way round here. Here, it's Labour who always appear to be leading early on in the count, becuase Labour areas are those densely-populated urban areas, while the Tory strongholds are more rural and lower-density and geographically larger. Ergo the Labour constituencies count the votes much faster because it doesn't take that long to gather all the ballot boxes, while the Conservative areas take a lot longer because some of the polling stations are quite remote.

The last constituencies to report results are almost always the Scottish islands, for obvious reasons.

I don't see why it would be the reverse in the US.

[Edit] I assume it must be something about the specific procedure for counting the ballots. Here the delay is in collecting all the ballot boxes, that have to all be collected before counting can start, while the number of ballots to be counted is roughly the same in every constituency - whereas I guess in the US the time taken depends on the number of ballots, and that isn't actually the same for every counting station?

I don’t know how many of these R defections we’re going to see in this election but it is happening to some degree.

This is one of the X factors. I think more Republicans are ready to turn the page on Trump than the polls are counting.
Also I expect D turnout on election day to be much higher than 2020. People still following 2020 voting trends to predict this election are stupid IMO. We are in a different dimension than 2020 for so many reasons, from Covid to the shittiness of Trump.

If you look at the Washington Post homepage right now and the Guardian, it's night and day. After Bezos's delusional op-ed and stuff like this, I decided to forget about going back to WP and not hurt the reporters, it's just not a paper I can trust anymore. So keeping that cancelled along with Prime.

(Edit: and bye-bye to 1 more WP subscription and Amazon Prime subscription, not that 1 makes any difference, but maybe the 200k and counting will)
I also dropped my WP subscription. The number of papers I can support for being ridiculous is slim. I keep the NYT because its a set of word games and recipes with a generally decent (though infuriating political headlines) attached at a low $1/week. WaPo didn't do that. I'll probably keep reading The Guardian more in its place.

AP still decent for now. It's been my default for some time.

Yes it’s really getting on my nerves.
As has been said Kamala needs to be flawless and Trump can be lawless.
Even post debate which Biden could have done better at the expectation was absolute perfection for Biden and Trumps expectation was don’t shit on the floor.
Point is they both did poorly and for whatever reason Biden became too old all of a sudden.
Fucking irritating.

Divided membership?! WTF?!

It’s utterly bewildering. This place is going batshit. Anyone in a union who votes for Trump is literally voting for someone who wants to eliminate unions. How can they be that dumb? He literally commended Elmo for firing a bunch of (not underperforming) workers. Makes no sense. None. Nada.

Because they've bought into the culture wars bs more than they've bought into their economic self interest.

I mean shit, at this point that is like every other Trump voter. And pretty much every GOP voter for decades. Every time since at least Reagan the Republican President has done tax cuts primarily benefiting the wealthy with the consequence of larger deficits, and just a pinch of sugar for the common folk.

When it comes to unions (particularly the Teamsters or UAW), one would think they’d be keyed into the fact that Biden-Harris admin literally put pressure on the big auto companies to get the union members significant pay increases. If they can’t understand this, then maybe they are too dumb to actually get the pay raise.

Fuck those guys
Yep. Fuck them and I wish nothing good upon them. Their defective souls only feed on racism, bigotry, and misogyny and all the absolute worst instincts of humanity. They are just like the many millions of little monsters that have helped bring upon the darkest moments so many times in our history.

It's time to call these disgusting pigs what they are, and call out the enemy. No tiptoeing around like some of our politicians trying to save a decent society have to do.

I've always said that a union member voting for a Republican is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders...

Temporary hardship does not sit well with me.

yeah for pensioners or anyone needing SS or public assistance, "temporary hardship" is just a pleasant way of saying "we are going to feed your flesh to the extractors so that your nutrients can harvested for the benefit of more successful, selected humans."

Well we disagree on pretty much all of that, is all I can say. I've noticed we disagree on a great deal. I suspect you are white and middle-class, hence you have a different ideology to me, because your self-interests are different.

(Hitchens was a full-on neo-con, aka an imperailist.)

People have multiple parts to their identities, and which part takes precedence can change depending on circumstances.

that was late-stage Hitchens, though. A lot of people remember him for being a long-time ultra-left liberal pundit. But it was the Iraq invasion, and yet his turn towards neo-con imperialism that brought many of his longtime fans against him. I think many of those same readers probably forgot that this is how he ended?

Interesting they gave this guy a gig again..

I mean....that's just Hinchcliff. It's what he does. He's an insult comic. I don't mind the guy at all, but deciding that he would be a good get for the Trump Nazi rally at MSG is just hilariously misguided. Of course he's going to do his routine. And of course it's going to be stapled to Trump's forehead.

I'm wondering if Tony is kinda thinking that he's doing work for the Dems? (not serious--most of those comics tend to like Trump, simply because he is entertaining to them. ...which is why we should never trust the opinions of comics about, well, anything. Just laugh when they are talented)
