I think the Nova is very similar to this board. I almost picked this one up.

Have new water block OTW. Man I hate acrylic tubing now. All because no VRM water cooling. Wonder if there are any universal Heatkiller ones that would fit?

EDIT: M.2 will be either next week, if I can go 8TB, or maybe before on a 4TB.
Any suggestions, on some of the Team Group drives or less expensive ones vs the SS 990 pro or WD Black SNX850 870? I don't recall the secondary number.
Yeah it has some improvements (and increased costs) better VRM, better audio codec, Wi-Fi 7, newer chipset, USB4 but I don't think they'll do "value" X870E boards, so the Nova is probably the closest.

Looks like I have Amd chipset driver version
6.10.02.1849 On Amds website they have driver version 6.10.17.152. Do I have to remove the old drivers first or can i just install the newer drivers?

I will be buying a 9800x3d tomorrow. The only thing I need to decide is if I buy a mobo/ram/hard drive as well or wait a few weeks until black friday.....I wonder if the x670 mobo's will get a discount

Just had my 3rd Raptor degrade on me. After 30+ years of Intel I'm going to move to AMD.
I would like to have a smooth build but don't know much about AMD builds.
My requirements are mATX board, fits under my desk, case that is.
I'll go 9950X. Not a big gamer, only use my Arc750 for accelerating PureRaw, Vegas Pro, Topaz photo/video AI, etc...

Looking that his board. Okay?

Looking at this RAM as it is on the QVL list for the mobo: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BF8FVLSL/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_7?smid=A3TOECTKC4OEBD&th=1

Igor from these boards told me go with this one, it's be okay even though it's not QVL.

I have no problem spending a bit more on RAM to get to the performance sweet spot but I don't know where that is?

Anything else to look out for. You can see my system specs in my sig and I'll be reusing everything but the mobo and RAM. Might pick up a new SSD since I'm starting over actually.

Thanks for any tips.

Avoid ASUS for B650 motherboards. Go with either Gigabyte or MSI. 9950X, you have to flash the latest BIOS to support it.

MSI MAG B650M Mortar WiFi or Gigabyte B650M Aorus Elite AX

I use B650 Gigabyte board and I like it, no issues.

I have the 6000 stuff, but MAYBE the 6400 is OK, I just won't say for sure.

What's to watch out for on the Asus B650 mobos? I got one with a Microcenter combo and didn't read reviews beforehand.

The 9800X3D results give slight hope core parking will no longer be an issue as the X3D CCD will be universally the better CCD of the two.
And hence the more likely a dual CCD vcache is. If the 9700X is already memory starved because of the IOD you can only guess how much a dual CCD will be limited. And if the rumors about threadripper vcache models and APU vcache models are true, then I think AMD is going full vcache. And with the lack of competition, they can simply set the price they want to maximize profits.

Outside of enterprise, I think AMD has never set draconian prices after their resurgence with Ryzen. I could be wrong, in which case citation is welcome

Oh, my definition of a draconian price point is like the ones set by Apple. People pretend that they are giving a great deal at their prices but I spent a lot of time doing a cost analysis and it just didn't make sense for me to go M4, even though I have the cold hard cash. I prefer not to be ripped off because I don't earn my keep by ripping off other people.

No, I don't think they'll go completely bonkers but with the 7950X3D being ~$600 ATM and if they do dual vcache CCD's I wouldn't be surprised to see a launch price @ $799 for a 9950X3D.

Sorry to hear of your troubles with Raptor Lake.

IMO, switching to AMD really is no different in terms of hardware. If you like ASUS motherboards, then by all means go with ASUS. Just make sure you pick out a board that has all the slots and ports you need. If you ask 4 different people on here what board you will probably get 4 different answers. I like MSI, some prefer ASUS, ASRock gets a lot of praise, and Gigabyte has a few fans too. In my house we have 1 AM4 build (MSI B550 Tomahawk) and 2 AM5 builds (one a Gigabyte B650 Elite AX, the other MSI B650 Edge). The Gigabyte board has had the most "issues", just some quirks that we have finally worked out with BIOS updates. The MSI boards have been rock solid.

For RAM if you want to keep things simple 6000 CL30 or lower seems to be the sweet spot. But if you like to tinker I'm sure you could go faster and play with timings to maximize performance. The amount of RAM is also dependent on your use case. Is the 32GB you have now enough? As you probably know RAM not on the QVL may still work with your motherboard. New kits are released all the time and not necessarily tested with your particular board. Companies like G Skill seem to work well with most boards when you stick with reasonable speeds.

The big difference between Intel and AMD is the BIOS and options for tweaking the CPU parameters. If you don't plan to mess with any overclocking or PBO or voltage then it is no big deal. If you do want to tweak then you will probably need to do some research to figure out what the settings are and how to tweak them.

Its $640 at AMD.com

Edit: I was thinking that AMD is not the escalator of pricing, so I checked there. Quote often newegg and amazon run the price up more than anybody, so I went back to AMD.com to check.

I think that's not bad value for people who absolutely need that much power (best gaming and productivity performance). Sure, they could offer it at a lower price but then people who don't really need this much power will scoop it up and the people with the real need will have to pay scalper prices or wait until the part is restocked. AMD can't make enough to satisfy demand. That's why Intel is still relevant.
