Now new leak for Arctic Wolf
So apparently Darkmont is 5% over Skymont and According to raichu Arctic is approx 20% over Darkmont so it is 25% over Skymont 🤔 that would mean
Skymont = 1.94/Ghz
Darkmont = 2.03/Ghz
Arctic wolf = 2.44/Ghz(20%)
Current P cove in ARL = 2.01/Ghz
M3 P core = 2.91/Ghz

Intel calling the core "Arctic" Wolf means they are confident that it will run so cool that it may even deliver most of its performance in a fanless device, like the Apple M series. If that happens, it would be encroaching on ARM territory. Wonder what AMD, ARM and Apple have planned to counter that possibility because once x86 designs are able to do that, it opens a whole world of x86 passively cooled devices including handheld consoles, phones, tablets, TVs, VR headsets and who knows what else. How would AMD's fanless x86 CPU be like and how it could be better than Intel's?

Well.... on phones they had Moorefield, but they left it behind...

In most these ecosystems ARM has the software advantage. It's a non-starter.

I'm fine with 25% over Skymont if true, that's another big jump. Cove never could do big improvements like this.
Raichu is just guessing. I think he also said Skymont won't be high as 30% either.

I'm confident enough that they'll get another 30% gain over Skymont. Even with this, they'll still be significantly behind ARM competition. Assuming 60% per clock gap is entirely due to ISA is a complete fallacy. I'm pretty sure they can get within 5-10% with equal teams which never happens in real life.

It seems Skymont is hobbled in both Lunarlake and Arrowlake. Lunarlake because of the slow MLC, and Arrowlake because of the slow memory controller. 194ns for E core memory latency shows how bad the execution was for Arrowlake.

That is why I want to see how Skymont alone would fare

@SiliconFly Naming is whatever they want to name. The core after Goldmont was called Goldmont "Plus" but it performed 30% faster per clock again, a substantial advancement. They did not do much on the front end, but widened the backend.

Yea but we'll never see this. Well, actually maybe we will if they get N series next year. But that also depends if they do not use Arrowlake's fabric.

And it still shines in some workloads. What kind of a monster core did they create?! I wonder what happens if they release it in Core i3-N4xx form with 8 or even 16 cores and the latency is 70 nanoseconds or less. It could beat Raptor Lake P cores in MT since their scaling is so good! Of course, that assumes that the MT workloads are not too bandwidth intensive since Intel will "lovingly" hobble their beautiful i3-N illegitimate SKU with single channel RAM. I personally hope that by that time, single channel DDR5-6400 is cheap enough to be used. It would be a lot better than DDR5-4800 in single channel.

Naming of the successor to Arctic Wolf is Golden Eagle. It'll likely be a "Tick" with 3-5% improvements.
Bingo. Griffin a mythical creature with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion, typically depicted with pointed ears and with the eagle's legs taking the place of the forelegs.

Intel's current internal roadmap (plan):
• 2024: Lion Cove: Arrow Lake / Lunar Lake
• 2025: Cougar Cove: Panther Lake
• 2026: Coyote Cove: Nova Lake
• 2027: Griffin Cove
• 2028: "Griffin Cove-next"

The king is dead, long live the king! => Griffin Cove is a "corefusion" E-core and P-core because is a mythical creature known as a half-eagle, half-lion.

Plot twist:
Arrowlake -N now is Dual Channel and goes to 12 and 16 core with Core i5 and i7 lines since it is good enough.
Also the i7 line gets nVIDIA or AMD dedicated GPU while the i5 goes with Intel GPU.

P: Lion > Cougar > Panther > Griffin > dead
E: Skymont >Darkmont>Arctic Wolf>Golden Eagle>Unified Core

If Intel wants a core that can beat Apple M8 and ARM competitors then it should be the Unified Core. Take the 30% gain they've been getting efficiently and then expand it further to go from 1mm2 class core to a 2mm2 class core.

While a 40-50% per clock gain from Arctic Wolf may seem impossible, remember the M4 is already 60% faster per clock. To think that it's impossible to close the gap and then go above it is not far from putting your head in the sand. It is not, because it has been done.

Leaving fantasy land, we do know that a few things are in play:
Intel is going to begin to retire processors from Intel 7 (alder/raptor) so there will be excess capacity there. Intel does not currently have an Intel 3 based IMC design/implementation. They aren't going to invest the money in making one for an N-series processor.

Skymont, as implemented, only exists on expensive TSMC logic. They won't pay for an N series chip on a leading TSMC node. We won't see a Skymont N series product any time soon, or possibly ever.

What we will see is an N series refresh of the current Alder Lake based product. You might get higher clocks, but that's about it. I would not be shocked if they used the 4 X 4 Crestmont cluster from Raptor Lake in a 16 e-core embedded product.
