When people kept telling me there were no undecided voters left and I was like 'you don't realize how checked out a lot of Americans are' this is exactly what I was referring to.
I like your way of putting it, "Checked Out".

A little fun story on Election day, how have times changed!!

https://www.wsj.com/opinion/nixon-c...5?st=8AHjwr&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink

If there ever was a sure bet for Election Day, after a campaign with so much contentious focus on the southern border, it’s that neither Donald Trump nor Kamala Harris will take a quick trip to Mexico for lunch Tuesday while their fellow Americans are voting. Why bring up such a far-fetched concept? Because of something that is all but lost to history—something deliriously unlikely that happened on Election Day 1960, as Sen. John F. Kennedy and Vice President Richard Nixon prepared to find out which of them would become president.

Nixon and his wife, Pat, cast their ballots at a polling place in East Whittier, Calif., with a large contingent of reporters and photographers present. A black sedan was waiting to take them back to their hotel in Los Angeles. But when Mrs. Nixon got into the car, Mr. Nixon didn’t join her. Instead, he hopped into a white convertible. Neither his staff nor the press had been informed this would happen. Nixon just wanted to cruise around. In the convertible with him were three other men: a lone Secret Service agent, an Air Force major assigned to the vice president’s office, and the driver, later identified as “Sgt. John DiBetta of the Los Angeles police bunco squad.”

The convertible was able to evade reporters trying to follow Nixon. Without a motorcade, the car headed due south on the Pacific Coast Highway, stopping once for fuel in Oceanside, Calif. The gasoline station’s owner, Cliff Edwards, was understandably startled; he later said Nixon told him that he was “out for a little rest and relaxation.” Freshly gassed up, the convertible continued south, and at some point Nixon decided he had a hankering for a bite of Mexican food—in Mexico. The convertible passed through the border checkpoint and then into Tijuana, where it stopped at a restaurant in the tourist district.

Today, images of the jaunt would flash around the world instantly on social media. But in the pre-internet age, it remained a secret. The mayor of Tijuana, Xicoténcatl Leyva Alemán, was surprised to receive a call from the vice president, who invited him to lunch: “It was not a date. There was no prearrangement. . . . It was a very great honor.” The mayor would recount later that Nixon dined on enchiladas, tacos, tamales and German beer. “We’re honored that on one of the most important days of his life, he took time to visit his neighbors across the border,” the mayor said. “I was especially pleased that he could converse with me in Spanish.” Nixon seemed enthusiastic about the food; he ordered seconds of tacos and refried beans. Then, with Americans back home still voting and having no idea where he was, Nixon, the Secret Service agent, the Air Force major and the bunco squad cop climbed back into the convertible. This time, Nixon was behind the wheel.

They motored north, stopping briefly in San Juan Capistrano, where a thirsty Nixon got a pineapple milkshake at a roadside stand. Then it was on to Los Angeles, where he arrived at the Ambassador Hotel shortly after 4 p.m. With his clandestine Mexican road trip now just a pleasant memory, he settled in to await the election results, which would be considerably less happy.

Just give up on this dream already. Florida, Ohio, Texas all red for the rest of our lives.
Doesn't this piece of advice depend on the notion that you know what is actually not known at all, that it is a projection of a negative attitude. Not implying you are wrong or right. Just commenting. I would not have said what you said because I personally have no idea. Don't you think millions of conservatives vote the way they do because they lack real hope for themselves. Maybe you should change your attitude and then tell Republicans what it takes to do so. I'm going to continue to believe you can defeat catastrophizing as many others have.

I voted like 45 mins ago. It was crazy. Two out five ballot scanning machines not working. The line to get the ballot was non-existant, but the line for the machines to scan the ballot was literally a spiral. The center is where one enters and the outer end of the spiral was where the machines were. There was no markings for each layer of the spiral, and a large group ended up making a circle going back to the end of the line by accident and delaying us all.
I heard someone behind me discussing with a friend that they wanted to call the Election Protection Tipline to complain how a poll worker ctold her that she lived in an red area. They actually called the number when the line fiasco problem occured to complain about staff shortage at the site in regards to line monitors.
The person in front of me brought their toddler with them, and the person in front of them literally was a police officer.

Turnout is looking very positive so far in NC, AZ, NV, GA, and PA. WI and MI are pretty much in the bag already. It's going to be record high. She could very well win all the swing states. Florida is looking to be a hard red state now. Maybe the Pubs gerrymandered themselves by all moving there

I would definitely caution against drawing too many conclusions from voting data before the polls close. I think what's out there is positive so far but people should temper their enthusiasm.
And there are quite a lot of mail ins to be counted yet.

This is why Florida and Texas won’t turn blue anytime soon. Conservatives from blue states keep moving to Texas and Florida. If Texas didn’t get an influx of CA conservatives it might have been blue by now.

About the only thing I would say with any certainty is that the Republican hopes that millions of Democrats simply would not vote this year appear not to be coming true.

Updated:

I spent 3 weekends canvassing for Harris in Montgomery County PA. Here just a few things of note by me.

We went to households with Democrats, Independents and Libertarians asking for votes.

In my case most people didn't answer the door.

Harris/Dems voters were mostly enthusiastic.

Encounters with Trump voters were mostly rude. Some of the canvassers were threatened by Trumpers including me.
A woman said to me through Ring doorbell, "get the fuck off my porch or I'll sick m dog on you. I said, "Ok I'm leaving. Another canvasser was chased into the street by a guy in his pajamas. Another canvasser was yelled, cursed at and he ripped up her materials in her face.

People drove/flew in from as far as Virginia, Maryland and San Francisco to canvass in PA because we are ground zero for the election.

Harris lawn signs were being stolen.

There were no signs on any Republican get out the vote presence seen by anyone. I think the Democratic ground game is so strong and people are so determined I think it will make the difference.

NYC voting was a mess. I took my dad's ballot to drop off and they couldn't find keys to open it for about 20 minutes.. and the same problem with ballot scanning! Took 8 tries for my first page

Yeah but I didn't want to take a chance with the mail in ballot this time like last time especially with how bad NYC mail is..

I've been waiting on my replacement debit card since September and they've mailed it out to me 3 times but never shows up in my mail box!

BTW it was not this bad before.. I wouldn't be surprised if Adams deliberately sabotaged the vote in blue areas as well to help Trump out by understaffing or not getting machines repaired.. etc!

Didn't it just shoot up a few days ago?
It has moved around a fair bit recently if memory serves but I do think it is a decent proxy for what a subset of people are thinking.

The stock has no worth outside of a roundabout way to bribe Trump and if he isn’t president there’s no need to bribe him.
