The main lesson here is that you must listen to the electorate. I don't think Harris was a certain loser tonight, I thought she ran a good campaign.
Where we failed is we refused to believe the voters when they trashed the economy (inflation) and then linked that to the migrants problem because DJT told them so. Yes it's a bunch of disinformation but if people are voting based on that disinformation, then you've failed to properly change their minds.

We've known for over a year that "Bidenomics" has been largely rejected by the populace, but Dems never disowned it. We insisted that the U.S. economy is the envy of the world (which it is), but that doesn't matter when Joe voter thinks he can't afford stuff.

Yes, but as Carville famously said, "It's the economy, stupid."
When Trump killed Roe how was that listening to the electorate? 65% of people favor Roe

Yea, I said a long time ago that the Dems have lost touch with the working class and the common man. You can blame the media, Biden for not dropping out sooner, or a myriad of other reasons, but I think the Dems have to re-examine their message and the way they deliver it after this debacle.
A lot of us had heated debates here in ATPN because some folks insisted that because the U.S. MACROeconomy is the envy of the world, voters would ultimately recognize that and vote blue. It's a losing argument because voters are not economists, and they don't fucking care about the macroeconomy. They only care about their own wallets.

But I will say that it's not a bad economy, and we failed to convince voters that inflation was solved, the labor market is resilient, and wages are at least outpacing inflation. The facts are the facts, but tens of millions of voters believed otherwise. Then, DJT falsely claimed that migrants are contributing to the problem and that message fooled a lot of rubes.

Instead of blaming certain groups of voters, we need to do better to win. If there is a next time.

Personally I'm all for a woman's right to choose, but more voters care about their pocketbooks than that. It worked out in 2022, but it wasn't enough this time.

"Reexamine their messaging" like their messaging ever mattered.

Looks like he just took PA.
I'll be sad to lose affordable Healthcare. Probably the end of my early retirement.

Imagine if his victory speech involves him saying he will give Isreal a A-bomb to attack Gaza with?

The good news is that starting tomorrow all the people complaining about the economy will now be touting it as great even before Trump assumes office.
At this point, the country will burn and I can't say that those people don't deserve it. I only feel bad for those who voted for Kamala. The rest? They can all eat shit. That dumb anti-choice bitch that just died in Texas because of health complications? Good for her. Fuck her pro-life family too. Seriously. These people all deserve the worst shit to happen in their lives.

The good news is that all of the legislation for Project 2025 is probably all ready to go and will be made into law by March.
The good news is, Mr.Turtle is still going to be senate leader hopefully. He at least likes keeping fillibuster. So maybe Democrats could fillibusyer everything.
Anti-cat eating law... filibustered!
Anti-dog eating law... fillibustered!
Anti-sanctuary city law ... filibustered!
Anti-Abortion law ... filibustered!

Then in 2026, Democrats have to win the senate or house, and Trump becomes a sitting duck from 2024 to 2028, with no laws enacted.
I think this is what Democrats at DNC are hoping could happen.

Sad thing is I think most of his voters are too fucking stupid to even suffer buyers remorse once he does the things he said he'd do.

It was fun while it lasted.
Yeah after at least four decades of failed Reaganomics, people still think the GOP is better at the economy.

I want to be crystal clear that overcoming this problem isn't easy, and I have no solutions or magic bullets. I'm not blaming Dems for not solving the messaging problem, because maybe you can't solve people's stupidity.

I think it was in the SOTU thread where @SteveGrabowski shit talked the economy, and others basically called him crazy. I find Steve very reasonable and astute in certain areas, so he had reasons for seeing things the way he does.* My point is there are hordes of voters who are convinced that Trump's 2019 economy was superior to 2024, and today they spoke loudly. Quite obviously, if the economy is the literal envy of our peers, there was a disconnect with the electorate that Harris never solved.

A lot of people in ATPN are upper middle class, and they are doing quite well. It's hard to understand that the lower middle class isn't vibing the same way about Bidenomics.

* Look up his Electoral College prediction in the other thread. It's pretty damn close. Meanwhile, other people were predicting Kamala cruising to an easy W.

McConnell stepped down as R leader (minority) at the end of this congress. He will serve out his senate term until '27 though.

What's odd is compared to the 2020 election, so far, turnout is about 50 million voters short. You would think because of everything on the line, it would equal or surpass 2020.
