Why is that astonishing? Who has suffered more because of inflation? Who has more to lose from immigration? Usually, lower income demographics. Yes, Trump is a POS and a racist, but the current administration hasn't done enough for them. Instead, people here are saying that "they just don't understand inflation" and "inflation is solved".
People who were struggling financially before are going to get proper fucked if Trump getss to do what he says he wants to do!

How many Trump voters are going to get mad at him when he deports their spouse?

How many Trump voters are going to blame him when the cost of everything made outside of North America goes up by 60% due to his stupid tariffs?

How many Trump voters are going to blame him when the women in their lives start dropping dead due to not being able to get a medically needed abortion?

How many Trump voters will blame him when their food stamps and other social benefits they were receiving get shut off?

I agree, but he's sold these tariffs as a solution that China will pay, and Dems just couldn't convince people that these lies are lies.

The racism is a factor but the sexism is determinative. The U.S. in its current form will never elect a woman president (not to mention a black woman). Or at least not in my lifetime.

Does he actually have any plans at all? Not as a sane, normal-thinking person would understand them. His brain, such as it is, simply doesn’t work that way. He’s constitutionally incapable of looking beyond the next ego-boosting dopamine hit.

But the minions he will be bringing with him … they definitely have plans. President Musk’s transition team has a lot of work to do. America owned the "libs". Sad day we AGAIN elected this unstable, unhinged and unfit fascist. We'll see what happens after he dies in office. He won't make it through the term. He lives on a steady diet of fast food and rage. is cognitive decline is palpable.

He can sell them however he wants, it isn't going to change how tariffs work. They aren't particularly complicated to understand.

The GOP never suffers any consequences.

Hell, abortion is barely an issue anymore. People are pretty much resigned to the fact that it will largely be banned in this country very soon.

Anything bad that happens during Trump 2.0 will simply get blamed on "holdover Dem policies" and the GOP can wash their hands clean of it and win easily again in 2028.

Yet Dem messaging failed. I have multiple friends (all well educated with Bsc/Msc from good universities) that told me flat out that I'm wrong, and that at the worst the importers won't increase prices because of "competition" which doesn't make any sense.

The whole point of tariffs is that the imported goods become more expensive!
That's not Dem messaging failing, that's just your friends being idiots

They said that Trump said that it wont increase prices, and that importers will want to stay competitive with US manufacturing and will pay the price themselves.

I agree that's it's dumb.

How tariffs work 101.

China makes a widget that costs $40. The USA can only make it for $80.
You put a tariff on the Chinese goods so they cost $80.
The US product is now competitive and you've propped up that domestic industry.
The downside is that the widget costs twice as much.
There's a place for tariffs in protecting domestic industries if those industries are important enough for the public to subsidize them, their purpose isn't to make things cheaper though.

I completely agree, except that I assume that even with tariffs it probably won't bring back manufacturing.

Excellent time to switch careers. I am thinking crime. I mean does the other thing actually pay off?

It can help with manufacturing but you have to be really careful. For instance in my example earlier you might have helped the US widget company initially but it makes anything made with that widget more expensive so you might well drive that whole chain of industry out of business, and with it the US widget company you were trying to save.
Tariffs are best when you are trying to save an industry that's important to a countries security rather than trying to prop up a noncompetitive commercial enterprise.

Easy answer: None. So many of them who have felt the rush of victory will simply walk away from the monster they resurrected because winning was all that mattered to them. And they have the added convenience of blaming everything their monster will do on everyone else but themselves.

They conveniently ignored every single bad thing Felon Trump and his fellow convicted crooks committed over the years and have absolutely no guilt over it. None at all. What makes normally decent religiously pious folks turn a blind eye to the travesties of justice Trump and his goons committed I'll never really understand.

They just simply don't care what the consequences of their actions will do to them after the dirty deed is done because "USA!USA!USA!USFuck'inA! God has Spoken!"

And that in a nutshell is everything and the only thing that mattered to you, isn't it? What a responsible human being you are. Remember that the Supreme Court has given Trump blanket immunity to do whatever he wants to anybody he wants and that includes you too. Will you care? Most likely not. Sheesh.
