Question New build won't post

So I ordered this stuff:

Finally got the second set of memory sticks and my new used GPU today and put it all together and no post. Now I have no PC speaker either, so no idea why, and the board came with no manual either, so even if I had a PC speaker, I wouldn't have any idea what the beeps, if any mean.

So all that happens, when you hit the power, is a little red light comes on very briefly, fans kick on, then it shuts down immediately. Yes the CPU fan is plugged into the right header, the memory and CPU have been reseated multiple times and I tried my old GPU as well, always same result, no post, brief red light flash and fan spin, then power off.

Is it even worth trying to find a stupid PC speaker and try and figure it out or should I just follow through on the RMA? Thing is, they'd just be replacing the stuff I send back, so I'm kinda skeptical, but I already applied so. Also my cat scratched up the corner of the motherboard box (damn cat!).

I had to put back together my old system just to post this. The new GPU is NOT the problem because it's installed and working with my old CPU and mobo. Amazing too because parts of this board are literally rusty! But she still runs stably. Even as dust choked as it is (and it is, I will need to seriously scrub it down to clean it up).

So is there anything I could be overlooking? The power header matches, no empty plugs, and yes the CPU power is also plugged in correctly.

There are no jumpers on this board, so I don't see that being it either.

What motherboard do you have?

Is the processor properly seated and the heatsink on properly?

What does the manual say about the lights? (Protip: use Google to find the manual)

You mention second set of memory sticks. How many sticks of RAM are installed?

I saw your other thread where you mention it is a Gigabyte B760 board and you'd have 32 GB of DDR5. Given that the sticks you linked are only 16 GB total, can you try to run it with only one matched set (ie, 2 sticks from the same kit) instead of all 4?

This is why I don't recommend getting the F versions of Intel just to save a couple of bucks.

Some of these MOBOs default to the HDMI port and don't pick up the GPU card for output. The red light should have some writing next to it to tell you WTF it's whining about. At least mine does.

DL the manual and put it on your phone to help you through the diagnostics process.

I had some issues last year putting together my AMD setup where things would just sit with the lights on and no boot. Well, one issue was the board still had the initial release for the UEFI which was several versions old at that point. Another issue was anything that needed to be plugged into the MOBO had extremely tight tolerances compared to any Intel build I have done before. Check the PSU connectors to make sure they're all connected and seated into place completely. Double check the RAM to make sure they're in the right slots and firmly pushed into place. Double check the GPU to make sure it's fully pushed into the slot.

I spent way more time getting up and running with this rebuild than with others. I could pull the older builds apart and put them into a new case in under 2 hours but, this one took several hours to get up and running and days to work out the gremlins to get to the point of it working as I wanted it to work.

Another thing just came to mind is to check the M2 to make sure it's properly seared as well.

OMG I feel like the biggest idiot EVER! I had the CPU installed backwards! I'm posting from the new machine now! I didn't even have to install drivers, it just automatically had me download a Gigabyte utility that did it all for me. Easiest install ever. Same windows install as my old machine, switchover smooth as glass!

Really feel silly. Didn't even know a CPU could be installed backwards. Glad it didn't damage anything.

Anyway it's a BIG upgrade over my old system. I can even play Red Dead Redemption now, with graphics settings on high and it runs smoothly.

For an ancient GPU the AMD RX 560 4GB is not bad at all! I know it's not gonna play demanding new titles, but I got it free and have a ton of games it will play that my old Core 2 Duo and GT 1030 would never even be able to play at all (RDR being one such game).

That should not be physically possible. There are notches on the CPU that are supposed to prevent that from happening. As you can see below they are offset so that the CPU must go in only one way. You must have had to really crank down on the ILM to get it to latch.

You might want to go into the BIOS to do two things: 1) ensure xmp is on for your memory, and 2) disable that gigabyte utility. Then uninstall that utility - they're kind of a security hazard.

That's how I figured out it was backwards. It was clearer at a glance on other intel builds I've done.

try to take out the sticks of ram one by one and turning it back on, bad RAM was a common cause.
