Can we remember that the NRA acted as a foreign asset for Russia in 2016 and that they've been leveraging social media to sow division at least that long? Prominent right-wing influencers having been recently revealed to be on their payroll, and that's only the ones we explicitly know about at this time.

Yup.

Agent Ginger Minge was successful, played at least one NRA guy like a desperate incel

And that’s only the tip of the iceberg people have to deal with in social media.

Maybe a grass roots campaign to “delete the app” to get people to delete social media would be a good start.

He's got his Get Out of Jail Free card now, that was the main reason he was running. What will happen now? I don't know. But there's nothing I expect to happen. Except maybe tariffs. But to what extent I don't know.

That's just bullshit. Your antagonistic attitude is offensive.
See above quote, emphasis added.
I’m not here to antagonize anyone. I’ve been here over 20 years, and have little beef with others.
Either you’re forgetting what you’ve written or you’re gaslighting us.

If you want to be optimistic because Trump is an ineffectual CEO, that’s your prerogative.
The rest of us know he’s dangerous, unhinged and will be surrounded by sycophants. It’s a perilous time for our country.
Nobody knows what mayhem he’ll perpetuate over 4 years, because he probably doesn’t even know.

That’s the last I’ll say about that, and you can have the last words.

Yeah I don't get the people who say "well we already had 4 years of Trump, we know what to expect."

Yeah, no. He was new to the game and surrounded by mostly traditional GOP types that suppressed his worst impulses. Even the Trump campaign has acknowledged this as a "mistake" they will rectify the second time around. And he has Congress and the SCOTUS.

It also doesn't help that the Democratic Party is in complete, utter shambles right now with no ability to provide any resistance. Thank goodness the Dems didn't nuke the filibuster, although no guarantee the GOP won't either.

IMO, the filibuster will be gone, 2 years before the midterms if that even matters anymore. P2025 is gonna be fast tracked

Exactly, it should be common knowledge by now among any political junkies that Trump was contained by all those people in his cabinet and employ who all now endorsed Kamala, who held powerful positions due to longstanding reputations in Republican politics, and not because they were radical Trump loyalists. Now he is surrounded by enablers who have been planning this out for years, and they are absolutely terrible people. One of the leading candidates for AG under Trump has tweeted shit like he wants to see the dead bodies of Trump opponents in the streets, all legally of course.

Honestly, it already feels like a one-party state already. Feckless Dems let it get to this point, and now they are completely locked out of everything.

I remember chuckling at some of the people here a couple of years ago who were proclaiming that tHe GoP iS dYiNg. They own everything - all 3 branches, governor's mansions, state legs, etc. How close are they now to even being able to calling a Constitutional Convention if they wanted to? Probably pretty damn close.

How do you even fight back against this?

WA's new governor was the previous attorney general, he and the incoming attorney general have discussed their plans to sue when and where they can to try and slow things down. The entire court system hasn't been burned down yet, so we've got that at least?

Edit: Here is something really scary. If NV and AZ go to Trump, as they are leaning, that gives Trump 30 states, nearly enough to ratify a constitutional amendment to eliminate the 2 term limit. Edit 2: Actually it takes 3/4 of the state conventions to ratify an amendment. I thought it was 2/3. So that actually means 38 states. Not likely to happen I guess, although who knows what else Trump would do to stay in power.
Yeah, not something America is going to go back to, the potential for 12+ straight years of anybody as POTUS. FDR died in office. Trump probably would too, argh...

Oh and so much for Prof. Allan Lichtman. He straight up pulled a gothuevos on us. Also, big misses from J Ann Selzer and Ralston.
Lichtman poo pooed any influence concerning gender and race with Harris, thought she had it in the bag with his 13 categories, which I suspected was a mistake. However, his system, I figure, just doesn't accommodate those considerations.

I'm not gonna be overly harsh on Harris because she played the hand she's dealt, and Muricans simply decided no thanks on a Black woman as POTUS. It's sad as fuck, but we knew this was a problem from the jump.

Yup.

So, simple things to remember: the only thing Trump cares about is Trump. He doesn't write legislation, the GOP Senate & House members do that, they put it on his desk, he signs it. If it's illegal, they judge shop, or depend on Heritage Foundation-supplied civil workers to act in accordance with the GOP's wishes.
They were unprepared when he got into office last time, and they spent years planning how to enact their will upon the country if he made it back in. I have no idea how much of it they'll accomplish, but they will most certainly be trying. It's not Trump himself you need to worry about, it's the Christian Dominionists/Nationalists. They very much want to have their own Christian flavor of the Taliban instituted here.
I read some of Project 25 today. Conservative manifesto for US federal government and struck me as pretentious, partisan, self-affirming and with no sense of fairness. I'm sure these people are fine with gerrymandering and voter suppression in their efforts to ensure their aims. I could smell the evangelical Christian influence..., well, I saw it too. I'm sure they will lean on Trump to appoint the people they recommend. One thing though. Trump likes to assert his authority in terms of his making the decisions. Of course, his judgement can be laughably terrible. Or worse.

He put Betsy DeVos in charge of Education.

He put Amy Barret on the SCOTUS.

He made Scott Pruit, climate change denier, head of the EPA!

He wants to put Herschel fucking Walker in command of the US Missile Shield - not a joke.

In 2016 he was asking Putin who he should have in his admin FFS

I guess I don't understand your skepticism regarding Il Douche's appointment history
I wasn't being skeptical at all, just being conversational. Yes, I realize his appointments were off the wall. Didn't know a whisperer for them was Putin.

I did think his suggesting Hershel to administer a high tech missile shield was kind of an off the cuff remark to spice up a miced up conversation. I can't take that seriously.

I said, as you noted, But there's nothing I expect to happen.

I did not say I expected nothing to happen, I was simply saying that I have no particular expectation. I won't argue with anything you said there other than to emphasize that I don't expect any particular calamity. Being in a very blue town on the Pacific coast in California makes this easier to feel/think/say than if I were in most other American locales.

Yeah I think the guy is competent enough to usurp Trump using whatever amendment that says if the president is deemed incompetent….
You are thinking about the 25th Amendment.
More or less where I'm at today, perspective wise. Also lucky enough to be in a free state. Honestly glad I don't have daughters, I think this sad outcome for America would hit even harder if I did. Not just the second class status repugs want for women, but seeing America go with an unfit convicted felon, rapist, insurrectionist and traitor over an extremely qualified woman and without even a destroyed economy or military loss being involved. Just, wow.

The Fuckening 2.0 is upon us, and those who voted for it need to be reminded that elections have consequences.

It's not just Trump's incoming damage to national security, our economy, our institutions and the rule of law that disturbs me. Traitor Trump staining the Oval Office once again means the ongoing genocides against Ukrainians and Palestinians will both likely shift into high gear. And this will only embolden Xi, who wants nothing more than to run a purge on Taiwan.

I'm terrified for my trans nephew and my niece they are in AZ.

I just got this on my Apple News, the wording is crazy to me. But this is definitely a sign of what we're in for.

So I know this guy isn't the AG, but he's in the running and with how he's talking here I could easily see Trump loving and picking him. And even if he doesn't pick this guy, no doubt he'll pick someone who's a sumbag with zero morals. The outright threatening and bullying from Trump and the people on his team will be the norm for the next 4 years. Call me a prude, but you shouldn't be able to threaten judges and DA's when they're just doing their job. Trump is a criminal that's not debatable, just because he's the president shouldn't mean he gets a pass.

Trump ally floated as possible AG has harsh warning for Letitia James: 'We will put your fat a-- in prison'

New York Attorney General Letitia James ordered Trump to pay a $454 million bond payment earlier this year as part of a civil fraud case

Fox News senior national correspondent Aishah Hasnie reports on potential Cabinet picks for President-elect Trump's administration on 'Special Report.'
Mike Davis, a staunch ally of President-elect Donald Trump, had some harsh words for New York Attorney General Letitia James during an appearance on "The Benny Show" podcast on Thursday.
"Let me just say this to Big Tish James, the New York Attorney General … I dare you to continue your lawfare against President Trump in his second term," the founder of the Article III Project said. "Because listen here sweetheart, we’re not messing around this time. And we will put your fat a-- in prison for conspiracy against rights and I promise you that."
Davis warned James to "think long and hard before you want to violate President Trump’s constitutional rights or any other American’s constitutional rights."

"It’s not going to happen again," Davis said.

Mike Davis, right, on The Benny Show. (@bennyjohnson)
James ordered Trump to pay a $454 million bond payment earlier this year as part of a civil fraud case brought against the former commander-in-chief. The New York AG accused Trump of overinflating the value of his assets to get better loans.
Trump later appealed the ruling. His attorneys called New York Judge Arthur Engoron’s ruling "draconian, unlawful, and unconstitutional."
After Trump's electoral victory on Tuesday, James and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul vowed to fight back against any potential "revenge or retribution" that may be coming their way now that President-elect Trump will be returning to the White House.
In his interview with Johnson, Davis also took shots at Fulton County Attorney General Fani Willis, who brought charges against Trump for his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

"[Fani Willis] is going to get disqualified from this case. This case will go to another district attorney in Georgia and no one in their right mind would bring this case again because it is not a crime to object to a presidential election," Davis said.

Willis, a Democrat, won her bid for re-election on Tuesday, defeating Republican challenger Courtney Kramer.

Willis made headlines just a month into her tenure, announcing in February 2021 that she was investigating whether Trump and others broke any laws while trying to overturn his narrow loss in the state to Biden.
The case is largely on hold while Trump and other defendants appeal a judge’s ruling allowing Willis to continue prosecuting the case.

Ding ding ding..

Other than PA which swung too much and kicked out Case your point is right on the money.

BTW this is an interesting listen from a left show talking to an indy trump fan over why Trump won and why the left has lost its way so much that Trump seemed better.. (these are not hardcore MAGA dumdums.. these are approachable)

That dude has a point but ultimately is an idiot thinking Harris is a (too) "progressive" Casperian has it right, she is a career politician.
