If you are coming from PS3 or lower (or never owned one) than the PS5 pro is the console to buy ...

The PS5 Pro will be my first ever PlayStation console – Reader’s Feature

That's the boat I'm in coming from a PS3. The price is still a sore spot though. $100 less and I wouldn't even hesitate. Damn you, Concorde!

I think the hate should be directed more towards the MBA folks deciding how hard they can squeeze the premium end of the segment. I am willing to bet this price plan existed for quite a long time before concorde went full albatross.

From their side I can see 100% why this make sense. Your most profitable products tend to be halo products and that's where the least price sensitive purchasers gather. A lower price is leaving money on the table. It is sensible that they would push the price as high as possible.

BUT.

From my standpoint, then it should have a stand and a drive included. This is the top tier product and priced as such, so it shouldn't be this piecemeal bundle, especially when the disc included PS5 exists on a lower tier. Frankly, I would have preferred they stay at the "real" 1TB of space the updated digital only PS5 has and included these other extras. Adding more space is trivial and doesn't preclude me from using it the way missing a drive does. And I could move that from my launch unit. I feel (emotionally driven decision making!) that they are trying to obfuscate the true cost of the unit.

And that's why I don't have a preorder. This approach makes me salty.

When they announced that the drive was seperate I kind of expected them to end production of the Slim with the drive already installed by the time the Pro was released.

Played the second level... this time the red birdie is much more visible. First successful attempt was 46 seconds which was enough to get both bots. I tried a couple more times and got it down to 44.7...

So the long term GF called me this morning and asked what I'm doing at work, I told her I was reading up on the PS5 pro and how cool it was. No, I had NO intention of buying one as I already have a PS5 and added an internal 4TB NVME and an external 4TB USB drive and don't want to deal with the hassle of moving nearly 8TB of data to a new console. She called me back about 20 mins later to tell me to cancel my pre-order as she purchased one for me. I love her for this but now I gotta buy the external drive because I own 100s of PS4 and PS5 discs.

May have made a mistake here boys. My PS4 pro was getting on my nerves with how LOUD it was. So instead of doing the obvious and buying a PS5 I redid the paste and upgraded the thermal pads and now it is quiet. So I guess I'm stuck with it.

Might be time to put a ring on it.

Easily sold my PS5 with some games for $400 on marketplace. The pro will be arriving this week but we're moving so it will be a while before I get to unbox it.

Wife prefers the game systems go to the basement which means I'll need another TV and couch. Sounds like I'll be able to get another LG c2 or a vrr equivalent TV for downstairs. Not sure what the latest or recommended tvs are nowadays.

LG C series is still top dog AFAIK

I’ll probably be there with you, just need to see a bundle for a touch more value. Hopefully Costco will have something.

There will probably be some for Black Friday if you're willing to brave the hordes. Maybe some good Cyber Monday deals if you aren't.

Yea I plan on getting a 55 inch C4. If I can't find a deal on black Friday since I'll be away traveling with family I think I can get some Amazon gift cards through recognition points at work which usually equates to $100-200 off.

I'll be connecting mine to an LG tv I bought about 2.5 years ago. It's a 75" Nanocell one as I don't like OLED and nano is great IMO. Native 120hz panel looks great for my current PS5. Just got an email from sony. Says it will be delivered tomorrow!

Can you actually get deals on high end TVs like LG C series on BF? I always thought BF TV deals were only for low end TVs stripped down to lower cost by for example having less HDMI ports than the regular version of the same TV.

There were definitely deals on the C2 in 2022 (~$1000 discount). Not sure about the C3 last year though.

There are a few games out there now that make a Pro a more enticing prospect. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s performance mode on base PS5 feels too compromising to me since in-engine cutscenes with panning shots of expansive landscapes and close-ups on characters during pivotal moments looked muddled at 60fps. Thus, I bit the bullet and managed with 30fps gameplay so that I could get the visual experience that uplifted its storytelling qualities. It worked well enough for that sort of game, but I’d much rather have been playing at 60fps. With the Pro-enhancement patch, Rebirth has a new “Versatility” mode that merges both the high quality graphics setting with 60fps performance into a singular mode so there’s no choice paralysis. And it delivers the exact type of experience I wanted.

Need a large display to get benefits of pro

These are the kinds of visual effects that are easy to pinpoint and demonstrate during play, but there’s a problem here. This is a console, and I’m perched on the edge of my coffee table turning my eyes square – that’s not how you play a console. Unless you’re one of the lucky few with a giant 80-inch display (or a particularly small living room) you’re not going to be pressed up against this screen in the same way you would a monitor setup. Taking a few steps back to the couch where I actually play, these details were far less apparent. Yes, if I squint I can see the extra details – but I’m more concerned with navigating tricky jumps and swatting monsters away when I’m actually playing. These extra features are going to be reserved for those playing in a desk setup on a monitor or on a massive 4K 120Hz TV.

The best PS5 monitors will show you all the ray tracing and detailing effects you’ve spent that money on in glorious clarity at speedy framerates. You simply won’t see that in a couch setup unless you’ve got an 80-inch display parked six feet from your eyes.

Find your favorite seat in front of the TV, then measure the distance between your head and the screen. Now measure your screen diagonally. Do you own a 65-inch or 55-inch TV, the most popular sizes? Do you sit 10 feet away or more? Then no, the PS5 Pro is probably not worth $700. Not even if you have 20/20 vision like me. The improved visual fidelity just isn’t tangible enough at that distance.

In every title I tried — while sitting no more than eight feet away from a 65-inch TV — the PS5 Pro was clearly the better place to play.

The increase in resolution is noticeable in the vast majority of games I tested, but it’s not immediately striking. We’re talking about very fine margins of details here that often need a side-by-side comparison shot to be truly appreciated. Don’t expect the PS5 Pro to deliver transformative results. This is a console designed for those who obsess over micro details.

In physical media terms, it’s the difference between watching a Blu-ray film, and watching a 4K film. While you’re watching the Blu-ray, you’ll be thinking, “Oh, this is crisp.” Then, you’ll watch the 4K and think, “Oh, this is even better.” If that difference means something to you, then this console is a fantastic investment.

For those who just want to play games, there’s not a whole lot you’re missing out on, if you already own the PS5.

The biggest difference you’ll notice on PS5 Pro is the quality of visuals, and the packed in detail – as long as you’ve got a TV set which will serve these improvements. For reference, I was using the PS5 Pro on a 55-inch Samsung S90D, as well as a 75-inch Hisense U8NAU, both of which were more than capable of showing off dynamic visuals and colours. Games that are PS5 Pro Enhanced are real marvels to behold

Seeing some early impressions of the Pro for example Baldur's gate runs 60fps at dynamic 4k and stellar blade around 80fps average. Sounds like PSSR will be useful as long as the implementation is done right.

The new PlayStation 5 Pro is for hardcore gamers and big-screen TV owners who want an edge on graphics for $700

❌ 📺 Only worth it if you have a big-screen TV

Trying out the PS5 Pro on multiple TV sizes – 55 inches, 65 inches, and 98 inches – I was able to appreciate the extra detail of the PS5 Pro on the larger TVs. The same rule of thumb applies to monitors. Anything beyond the popular 27-inch monitor size will display the extra pixels and ray tracing more clearly. Otherwise, you can get by with performance mode and wait for the Sony PS6 release date in a few years.
