To anyone saying "Trump can't do that" I simply say,
You lack imagination.
Meh! ... I'm still saying Trump can't do all the grandiose things he promised. Actually I'm more inclined to say Trump "won't" do all the almost impossible things he promised. Trump is lazy and isn’t a leader, Trump is a boss. He just yells, “I want this done!”, and other people are supposed to do all the actual work. Deportation plan? I've heard from experts its in the 100 billion range. And the manpower needed to pull something like this off. Where is the money and the manpower coming from? TheProud Boys? lol. The US doesn’t have anything approaching the law-enforcement capacity to realize this xenophobic fever dream. “Deport 10 million people! Drill more oil! Impose tariffs!” How hard is it to just yell that, and then sit back and watch others TRY to do the work?
Last time around, he didn’t have people to yell at who would jump at his command and do all that hard work. They actually expected him to show some leadership, and do at least some of the work. But now? Look at that list that’s shaping up. He’s choosing people who will snap to attention and do everything he tells them to do, without all that tedious asking for guidance. Trump already nominated bootlickers to be the secretaries, but the Elon Musks, Peter Theil, Stephen Millers (maybe Kennedy) and other real scum will just unofficially be in charge and will be empowered to tell the cabinet secretaries what policy will be. This in all likelihood will result in all the same turmoil we saw last time, with huge turnover due to firings and resignations caused by all the incessant infighting. I still think those people are going to trip over their own feet trying to get things done. Trump tends to surround himself with toadies who fuck up and I don’t see that trend changing.
Inflation is down to nearly 2%. If the Trump administration puts in his promised tariffs and inflation spikes he could have problems in the midterms leading to the loss of the house or senate, which would slow down the implementation of Project 2025. Firing a zillion employees per Project 2025 will stall early on. It’s immensely hard and will end with huge amounts of litigation, so it will bore Trump quickly. If Trump drops dead and Vance takes over you may see renewed effort, as Vance has more energy and focus.
We'll see if his handlers advise him not to implement the tariffs right away or to do it so gradually so that the expected impact on inflation is minor. That way he can claim he increased tariffs but they won’t be nearly as high as what he promised during the campaign. The shipper marks it up because their cost has gone up, and then the wholesaler marks it up because their cost has gone up, and then the retailer marks it up because their cost has gone up. Who pays the extra cost (plus extra markups)? We all know who that is. Many Trump voters who are concerned about inflation will be surprised when they discover that higher prices are only considered to be a problem to the people who are buying things. If you’re one of the people who’s selling things you think higher prices are good. Trump loves tariffs because they punish the other people in the US and other nations. It’s typical Republican regressive tax policy. Trump doesn’t believe in trade, he believes in tribute, in his view if you don’t get something for nothing you’re a “loser”. Trump constantly lied and made false promises he never intended to keep, and that he can simply ignore if need be.
