You've never heard once in your life that bringing a gaming laptop to work is unprofessional?

If you go to YouTube and look up "Best gaming laptops" many of the videos has recommendations for "work" and they say how it's important for it to not "look like a gaming laptop".
In over two decades of being a programmer, no, I have not once heard this topic even come up.

The best way to test this out is for you to get a job and show up with a gaming laptop at the interview and go from there. Bonus if you manage to participate in a WoW raid right in the middle of the interview. I would take a dexxer so you can tank the boss while everyone else heals you, so you can focus on the interview.

Go in with a gaming desktop, and a 20" crt just the good old lan party days. Lots of rgb lighting, and fans that sound like an industrial compressor when the computer's on. Bring it all in on a hand truck cause it weighs 250#

Remember when everyone had windows and neon lights in their desktop computers? Gaming laptops are in the same phase. A couple years from now they will revert back to minimalist design with maybe a small LED or glow but that's it.
My PC build from last year is ALL FUCKING WINDOW and UNICORN VOMIT RGB EVERYTHING and I fucking love it! Fuck you sir, go die in a fire!*

*with love, I don't actually want you to die in a fire or otherwise, I just love my pointless RGB

The plasma ball is a nice touch, I think mine is half that size. I don't actually keep my main rig in full rainbow mode all the time (other than the RAM), the fans have a fun mode where it's like they're a circular progress bar filling up. The secondary rig in the living room (both desktops are actually in the living room, they're for fun, my laptop is in the music room, where I work) is all rainbow all the time though.

Yeah, mine usually a slow pulsing deep red. It's a bit like the deck of a sith ship I guess!
And then if I start up Spotify all hell breaks loose!
I don't have any RGB in the actual case though as that's under the desk.

I also need to board off that cable hell under the desk!

Fast lights get on my nerves and make me anxious. I have a BlissLights projector that makes a slow moving nebula in a starfield I like. I have it in my room, but it would also look cool on a wall behind the computer. I also have blue Kool cigarette plasma light. It was given to me by a rep when I was in the right place at the right time. I removed the stickers, and it looks like a book with plasma inside. I haven't turned that on in ages.

edit:
A pic I found online of the plasma light. Still has the stickers...

I also have one extremely similar to that, but it's shaped like a dolphin instead, got it at a yard sale a couple years ago, same shade of blue and all.

Employees should only be using company provided equipment for their computer work, unless you want to open your infrastructure to unsecured devices.

And as an employee, I'm not going out of my way to buy a laptop to do my job. My employer can provide the equipment I need.
Exactly, shit I am starting to think I shouldn’t even use gps when I need to drive somewhere for work. Companies have become extremely cheap regarding mobile devices.
I have also opted out of work email on my personal equipment.

It doesn't look like the topic has anything to do with using a gaming laptop at work, or whether or not they look "professional"?
In the (current) top post, someone also specifically listed a couple options that fit the bill, so it sounds like companies are already making gaming laptops that are less garish.
That's what I have to say about that.

I only keep work email on my personal phone for convenience, and I have enough trips a year where I kind of need it. The sandbox modes that separate personal and work seem better than they used to be. And I definitely don't follow my email in off hours.

But when I do travel for work, I expense everything and try to max per diems when I can. As a former coworker once told me early in my career: they're taking you away from your friends and family, so go out and enjoy yourself.
