I recently gave a shot to buying XMP ram. It didn't go well. Something no one knows or talks about is not all PMICs are supported properly by agesa, and buying an EXPO kit guarantees you get something that is supported and will work.

The kit I bought from Corsair had MPS (Monolithic power systems) PMICs which are known to not function correctly according to oc circles. Didn't learn that until after I spent 12 hours trying to figure out why the ram wouldn't work right/had errors/caused weird system hangs no matter how I configured it.

Personally this experience will make me never buy a non-EXPO kit ever again. I postulate that the people who have used XMP kits without issue have been fortunate to get kits with the right PMICs to work on AM5.

G.Skill announced 2x48GB 6000C28 EXPO kits back in July, so I've relegated myself to waiting for those to hit the market.
I always thought people used custom settings to make any ram kit work on an AMD build. That means manually tuning the ram.

They do. And I did. But I'm saying that there's an additional factor that is little known to ram compatibility for AM5. You can set everything by hand and it can still not work if the PMIC isn't supported. If you buy XMP ram, you could get any PMIC.

Buying EXPO means this is a non-issue since they come with PMICs that are fully supported.

boy the bundled a white board with black ram... lol
I have never seen white ram.... But I have seen quite a few white cases and motherboards. In fact I own one of each !

Edit: I just saw the post above. I now stand corrected.

@Det0x has some interesting binning data he's posted here. I don't know if I can reasonably test the fclk and imc to the same extent but I'll definitely be testing my cores in the same way to compare to his data.

I will have to change my profile but so far its been a smooth transition. I dont do any real benchmarking but before i took apart my 13700k i did the nvidia gpu driver update. The 9900x finished 19 second sooner than the 13700k. Gaming rig with the 9800x3d is complete just downloading the rest of my games and will take it for a test drive later. This is the first time ever that my pcs i use were not Intel.

The Godlike isn’t great.
It’s a waste of money. The USB-C ports are not USB4v2.

Just get a $500 dollar board, less ports but 500 more in your account

quick info, first run was whatever default was which was 1080p high, was 9xxx somewhere in there.

Then reset hwinfo monitors, set to 780p laptop, and never seen over 80% cpu usage, the first one did peg it out at full speed. The 780p never even hit max frequency. IDK.

Thoughts, this is also at 4.6 and GPU at stock.

EDIT: temps never really were noticeable.

BTW if no one noticed, the 720p or laptop low bench, did not max out my cpu usage, highest I seen was 73%

Now the default 1080p high did put it at 100% full frequency. Do you think it is PCIE 2.0 the bottleneck?

But you can buy a dual 10G NIC for a grand total of $30 (used) to $200 (nice and new). And you can use it with your next motherboard too.

I don't really understand these super expensive boards
You won't get full speeds with a DUAL 10G NIC with a GPU installed.

But we don't have PCIE5.0 GPU's yet. So x16 isn't even fully used.
But then that is also the conundrum, finding a board with a good PCIE layout. I use a sound card and needed a PCIEx1 slot at minimum, doesn't matter if it's PCIE3.0. Biggest reason I went with the Asrock Nova instead of Taichi.

I keep going back and forth on the GIGABYTE X870E AORUS PRO ICE but it says it "supports windows 11". Does that mean Windows 10 is a no go?

Windows 10 will work but it will not be supported long by Microsoft. I think you will need to pay for updates in 2025 if you want to keep using Win10. And it's not like that will let you keep using Win10 forever. Microsoft is essentially trying to make using Win10 unattractive for most people and pushing them towards Win11.
