I wouldn't say they are junk. I've seen far worse Marvel movies. Sony at least tries to make something watchable. Marvel doesn't even try with their worst attempts. People may not like Morbius but I thought it was perfectly fine. However, I don't get how people can say anything good about The Marvels.

The Marvels is is better than Venom 1 and 2.

I'll save everyone time and say DigDog will say they all suck, but he'll write a dissertation on why each of them suck. It will take more time to read than sit through the movies.

I would have to watch that awful movie again to list more issues since my mind has purged almost everything related to that movie, except maybe some good stuff.

Venom at least has some laughs thanks to the alien's crazy antics.

The dance-off is better than literally anything in Venom 2. Venom 1 and The Marvels are both in the "they're fine" tier.

OK, I guess we can agree there. Venom 2 wasn't that good. Venom 3 is much better (varied locations, great soundtrack consisting of "safe" songs that most everyone is sure to like, nice explosions, cool visual effects that don't look unreal etc.) and the ending made me feel sad for Eddie Brock.

Speak No Evil - 6/10

Another pretty "meh" movie. The first 75% of it is pretty great with a good setup and some creepy stuff, but the payoff is just very lame and weak.

Wife and I are watching the Lincoln Lawyer on NF. We just started s2. S1 was entertaining, but the acting was pretty bad at times. That's not to say the acting is good, just passing most of the time. But still entertaining. I'd give s1 a 6.5/10. I heard s2 was pretty bad, but s3 turned out to be pretty good so we'll see.

i meant to watch it on release but never got around to it. kinda glad i didnt.

based on a phillip k dick short story. guy gets caught up in the secret behind the scenes rewriting of reality by mysterious men in fedoras. it was marketed as a sci fi thriller in the trailers but that is maybe 3% of the movie. it is actually intellectual love/romance story, where you are supposed to ponder the selfishness of love vs good of the person you love.
casting is great (tho damon is looking a touch too old for the given stats of the character), acting is good, cinematography is good, plot has intrigue but fluctuates between taut and meh when they slow down for the love story scenes.

im fine with a cerebral love story with a dash of sci fi, but given how they advertised it i can see a lot of people feeling like it was a bait and switch.
probably a 6-7/10 for most people, but it has a plan and executes it well enough. emily blunt, john slatterly, terrence stamp, anthony mackie deliver worth watching performances. probably could have been a shorter movie and has some messaging issues.

Wednesday series 2022
jenna ortega as Wednesday Addams being sent to a boarding school for non-humans getting caught up in a mystery.

fun offbeat tone with several episodes being directed by tim burton. luis guzman (gomez addams), catherine zeta jones(morticia), fred armisen(uncle fester) as the family but they are only in maybe 5% of the screentime. ortega is very good and does some amazing things when it comes to making the character not a one note caricature. thing(severed hand) is an actual chacter with personality.

this is hogwarts for monsters/mythological creatures with a overarching mystery/crime investigation framework. there are some uneven points in the writing/dialogue but it moves along well enough that i binged the last 6 of the 8 episodes. it suffers as it is a teen highschool drama but fortunately they dont dwell too hard on the angsty drama and the writers are able to rip you out of a comfortable you think you know where this is going with sudden situations of dread and menace.

there is a 2nd season in the works, im onboard.

It's been a long time, but the fight in the hallway with the hammer is fucking epic.

Hereditary is well done. Not my kind of movie though, as I don't like stories where the characters lack agency.

Watched Transformers one during lunch today. Ehh, not bad since it wasn't live action, interesting take on Megatron and Optimus's "origin" story. Idk maybe 7/10, or 6. Won't revisit.

Was talking to someone on D4 from New Zealand who had not seen the NZ movie Homebound I think it was. I'd give that an 8/10 funny and creepy.

Waiting for Alien Romulus, but I think I hit to many spoiler videos on YT. Might be a lunchtime movie.

BTW lunchtime movies are on my cell phone dock in my work vehicle plugged into the aux port and powered for full screen brightness, stereo sound mid way, is really good if in the shade and no reflections in the way. But such is the life of working outdoors.

I have to comment on this one. I was pharmaceutical meth for a while and I have to say, no bueno.

The feats of endurance and strength are probably pushing the plausibility envelope, but they're done with purpose and humor. One of my all time fave Statham movies.

I wouldn't have objected if they'd made a passing reference to those of us whom the drug puts to sleep, but seriously, who would believe that anyway.

for any Dune product you will need to make your own decision because my attitude to Dune is hypercritical. but yes, they are related and i did not like it past the first 30 seconds.
to be clear, it has nothing to do with the "break canon". the only canon issue is that they have an introductory speech saying that the butlerian jihad was a "war" against the machines, a Terminator-style bombs and guns to the robots, while it wasn't that in the book, but i really don't care for the change because the end result "there are no more thinking machines" is the same. no, the acting and direction is bad, thats why i didnt like it.

btw, i did like Romulus. Not like OMG BBQ but it was nice.
