Question Whats enough Graphics card for 1440p on a 27 inch monitor?

I was thinking of going with a RTX 4070 Super, but after reading a few threads and watching a few videos, I'm thinking maybe the 4070 Super is too much. I'm mostly be using it for racing and flight sims. I haven't even bought the monitor yet. I'll list my system as it is right now. I'm only looking at Nvidia cards btw.
Motherboard: MSI MPG Z590 Gaming Plus, BIOS: 7D07 VA2

VGA: NVidia GTX 1050Ti

PSU: Corsair RM750x

CPU: Intel? Core i5-11600K

MEM: 2x8GB, 3600MHz G.Skill Ripjaw F4-3600C16D-16GVK

A 4070 Super is about the right sweet spot for 1440p. Might also consider 16GB more system RAM if you're playing flight sims.

At this point I disagree. It was pretty nice when it was released but 8GB just isn't enough even at 1440p.

4070 Super is great for 1440p. I would also recommend more RAM. 32GB is minimum for flight sim these days

I’m using a 3070 with a 1440 32” monitor. No complaints…other than I wish it had much more V-Ram. 8 gb just isn’t enough for more modern games.

Just want to make sure its a fairly balanced system, I thought just maybe the 4070 Super was a bit much. But in the $400-600 range it seems like the best bang for the buck. I am a bit concerned with connectivity with the PSU, but I think it will work.

I wouldn't worry about PSU connections. There are adapters included with the card and the power draw is very light at 220w max.

If you can get a 4070 ti super for $720 then go for that

Only concern is if MSI is planning on exiting the GPU business

4070Ti Super will indeed give you both the VRAM and more horsepower now, and will carry over when you upgrade your CPU. Whether it will be cheap enough for your budget is another issue. Upgrading to 32GB RAM or more is highly recommended for current games.

For 1440p on a 27" DLSS Quality will be your go to setting for upscaling.

Since you're coming from a 1050Ti, welcome to a world of awesome!

For those of us who've upgraded at least once in the last couple years, the current crop of cards leaves us a little jaded.

Even a great priced 3060 12GB will be a great uplift for you. A 6800 16GB or 7700XT on the right sale would be even better.

I just bought one of those 4070 Ti Supers though, and yes, the 4070 Super is a pretty solid card for the purpose. The Ti Super is just a little more special, and a gamble that 16GB will be better through the next 5 years.

I'm a bit behind thats for sure. But I have to make my systems last, so I can't usually afford the best. I am also sticking with Nvidia as it works best with my older racing sims like GPL better.
Question now is what brands will have the best deals. I would think that ASUS, MSI and EVGA are pretty well up there. Does matching your Motherboard and Graphics Cards manufacturer help?

Well, EVGA is dead for new cards now. They moved on, nvidia squeezed them out.

I don't think matching vendors is that big of a deal, either. I thin ASUS styles themselves as premium and charges as such, but I am not sure if that is really true.

It's a bit of a crapshoot, what do you have available for retail? I like buying this stuff retail when possible, even price matching when I can. That way if you get crazy coil whine or weird black screens or whatever, its pretty easy to exchange.

Right now is a decent time for Marketplace local sales near me as well, with cards like a 1660 Super being ~$50 and something like that would be a huge step up while we wait for the coming 5000 series nvidia stuff to unfold. 2060's for $120, etc.

I would try get a 4070 close to $400 or a 4070 Super for $500 and feel like you really are getting a big upgrade for reasonable value. Intel and AMD launches might just help that, but generally I've seen deals for the 4070 for close to $450 already.

I was wondering why I couldn't find an EVGA card, duh. I'm not even sure I would know Coil whine If I heard it, but I do have a pretty quiet system, after a lot of trading fans. Probably between Asus and MSI then, haven't seen much for deals and Best Buy is my only local option, and they don't have much. Newegg used to be my goto for system builds, but their prices seemed to have grown considerably. Best I've seen for a 4070 Super is $600, not sure about a straight up 4070. Too bad about EVGA though, I really liked them.

You can use a site like slickdeals, setup a deal alert for “4070” and get bombarded for a while but maybe score a nice deal.

I definitely think the "Super" is worth the $50-$100 especially for the long haul - unless you get a smoking deal

I know the AMD cards are probably better value for the money, but as I said earlier I'm going to stick with Nvidia because of my older racing sims I still use. That particular Super EVO looks great, but I delved into it a bit and there's a slight difference.
ASUS 4070 Super OC has a larger heatsink, and the fins are oriented vertically.

ASUS 4070 Super EVO OC has a smaller heatsink, and the fins are oriented horizontally.
I'm not positive about this, but I've heard that the Super EVO may cause like hot spots of air inside the case. I'm probably being super picky, but thats a lot of money to spend, especially If it happens to be slightly compromised.

I've just read a couple of good reviews for this card: MSI RTX 4070 SUPER VENTUS 2X and it seems to perform well and it has a small form factor as well.

Targeted airflow will resolve hot spots inside the case.

It's not for everyone, but the best deal will (likely) be at Newegg paying with Zip Checkout (a Buy Now, Pay Later service).

For example, the ZOTAC 4070 Super is $630. The promo code ZIP75 takes $75 off, making the net price $555 + tax. There is a $6 finance charge, but no interest if you make the 4 payments on time.

Unfortunately this promo code ends in 3 hours. However, I would bet money that they will have a similar promo next week when Black Friday deals are underway.

Newegg also uses Affirm, a different BNPL provider. Sometimes there will be a promo specific to Affirm, but the general effect is about the same. (A year ago, I used Zip. I've never used Affirm.) IIRC Zip does NOT ask for your SSN, so they do not actually do a hard credit inquiry (say like an auto loan). Apparently they use some other consumer database that builds some sort of credit profile based on name and address.

Here's a reference thread you can peruse, but that graphics card is OOS. I used the ZOTAC just as an example, and I tested that the promo code does work in the shopping cart (MSI 4070 Ti Super also worked).
I'd be shocked if a similar promotion isn't available next week with either Zip Checkout or Affirm. YMMV.

I'm a bit worried with tariffs on the way after January, that prices will go thru the roof for different reasons. Should I just buy now and bite the bullet, or wait a bit and see what happens ?
