I worked for the US Civil Service, and carried my FEP private group insurance into retirement, since I was too young for Medicare when I retired. I haven't switched to Medicare except for part A, which is free. My wife has had a lot of medical issues this past year, probably would have been hundreds of thousands without insurance. Between the private insurance and Medicare part A to pick up hospital deductible expenses, i have only had to pay a few thousand (less than 5K for sure) for all this. Considering what is happening now, I am glad I kept the private insurance, although it has become painfully expensive (900.00 per month next year, the premium went up over 100/month). If Harris had won, I was planning to switch totally to Medicare, but wont now. In fact, I am even concerned that if Medicare gets eliminated or severely gutted, private insurance will increase even more steeply in price and cut benefits.
