I'm old enough to remember when Germany had no problem allowing Poland to join NATO so that the do nothing Germans had a buffer between them and Russia. All 'ballistic' means is that it falls on its target by the force of gravity as opposed to say, a cruise missile which gets to its target through powered flight the whole way. So this would just be more of the same. Just bigger and more expensive. From what we saw of it impacting, we've seen regular use of more destructive weapon systems for years. For practical use, clearly each warhead is meant to be nuclear. I suppose this proves Russia still has functional delivery systems. Though I always suspected they kept some in working order.

It's hard for me to see how this would be a cost effective way for Russia to strike Ukraine. ICBMs are there because sometimes you need to strike someone really far away. That's not the case here.

RS-26 may be more an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile than a ICBM, mostly I think because it has not been demonstrated at ICBM ranges. This kind of firing isn't going to be a regular occurrence because they have limited numbers and they are very expensive to procure (Kremlin resources are not infinite). Especially with a number of other Russian wonder weapons that Putin announced years ago shitting the bed regularly (Sarmat, Burevestnik, Kinzahl, etc).
