I just bought a few of these to play around with on some tiny PC's (thin clients) I think I'll do a dual boot Windows 7 and Linux Mint system.

Question: I've heard that these run pretty hot. Can anyone recommend a small heatsink that I could affix to the top and bottom, to help it run cooler?
I think it could really increase the stability, and maybe the operating life.

Thanks!

What size is it? You might be able to find a heatsink designed for NVME drives that would fit

Looking at someone else's mod. I'm guessing that cooling the case will have little effect. I can't tell, but it doesn't seem like the chips inside are thermally coupled to the case:

So generally the solid play in these kind of situations is to look at the existing case and it's thermal issues, decide you need to couple the chips to a metal case with some integrated cooling, and then buy a sintered metal 3D printer. Basically the exact same process as coming back from Home Depot with a new compound mitre saw if the wife asks you to trim up a baseboard.

I've definitely been known to buy expensive tools for one job (when am I going to use that framing nailer again?).

In this situation, though, I'd probably go ghetto and try an Altoids tin and hot glue. It should give pretty good heat dissipation, but electrical isolation might be a problem.

I have a variant of this (it doesn't have Clear QAM). It runs a little warm, but that's never been an issue.

I've used it to record NBC's Olympics OTA broadcasts going back to... 2008. Why, I have no idea. It seems highly unlikely I'll ever re-watch any of it* and the MPEG-2 streams take up a ton of disk space. It's forcing me to upgrade my NAS before the 2026 winter games. 🤣

* The only thing I've ever re-watched is the Beijing opening ceremony. Which is already on YouTube in higher quality.
