cable internet's been down since yesterday morning. Rogers website claims it's fixed

It's a cable sync issue, I wonder if someone messed with a time server somewhere.

I was oiling a cuttingboard on top of the woodstove, and slopped walnut oil on the stove. Now everything smells like overcooked oil. and apples... I also have a scented candle going.

Mine's a mixed FWP & RFWP. I spent more time taking down my pine out back, and I'm covered in pine sawdust/pitch. Smells great, but it's gonna be a huge mess when I take my clothes off for a shower.

I think I have one more trip up the tree. I need my biggest saw to finish. I plan on leaving a substantial spar, and my intention is to cut a "roof" on top. and maybe/maybe not put boards and wood shingles on it. I then want to bore through the middle to make a walkway through the tree, and maybe a smaller "window" over the door. Maybe hang a solar light inside. I'll probably screw it up and have to cut the whole thing down, but that's the plan atm.

Searching for gravestones made from our granite, I ran across this cemetery:

"The devil ain't gonna find us here!"

Decided to make Belgian Waffles, broke out my Breville waffle maker, and mixed up the rest of the box to make a double batch. As I was stirring it, I saw some black specks, then saw one moving. The shit was infested with pantry bugs. There goes my breakfast.

ARRGH.

I hate wasting food, but I'm not trying to eat bug infused waffles.

I cut my thumb in like the worse spot and the dumbest way. Was trying to close the latches for my portable solar station I built and it was stuck and it somehow managed to cut me, probably because my hands were cold and dry, and the latch was also very cold. Didn't end up closing it. I need to replace them all with bigger ones that have a bit more play. The door warped out of square so it's harder to get the latch to line up with the loop. The cut is a small flap right on the side of the end of the thumb, basically the part that you grab things with when you pick them up, or try to use them, like tools etc. It did infect a little, but it is healing. I should probably get a tetanus booster shot actually...

Drove home from work about an hour ago. On the way home, I ate my cut vegetables I packed for lunch. Carrots, celery, tomatoes, and fresh jalapeño slices. Stopped at wawa and got their turkey bowl. It's kind of like school food, which is why I like it. Got home, pet the cats. Went outside and pet Spot, and collected firewood for later. Fired up the computer, played around online, then got a can of spiced apple seltzer water. I just rubbed my eyes. What do you suppose the odds are of having jalapeño juice still on my fingers?

Yeah, I have to remember that, I told myself this summer. I did a lot of canning, much of it my tomato hot sauce with homegrown tomatoes and store bought jalapenos, 10:1. Burned my eyes a couple times after dicing a pound of hot peppers.

I need an Android phone with BT 5.3 & LE Audio. My Samsung S9 only has BT 5.0 and ASHA. I decide a Pixel 8 unlocked with 128GB will fit the bill and it has updates until 2030, whereas the equivalent Samsung S23 only until 2027. I hunt for deals but decide to just buy new from Best Buy and pick up today and call them this morning to ask a few questions. Woman tells me they have an Open Box one with 256GB for just $12 more than the 128GB model.

She says I can order online or at the store. Says ordering online insures I get it, rather than chancing someone else will order ahead of me (I live 3 miles from the store). I order it online. I paid with Paypal. Message said it would be ready for pickup in about an hour and I'd be emailed when it was ready, it gave me the Order#, I'm set.

I got on with my morning and then look at my email inbox and there are messages about my order being cancelled and a refund on Paypal. I follow the links and it says the item is "not available." I call to ask WTH happened. I get a guy. He says (guessing, or maybe he knows, I don't know) someone else ordered it a bit before me but their system didn't update until later, therefore my order is cancelled. I say I think they should provide me with one at the price I paid (which was $461.99, the regular price being $509). He says they can't do that. I insist they should. He says they can't. I ask to talk to his manager. He assures me the manager will say the same thing. I insist, insist again. He puts me on hold, comes back after a while and doesn't put the manager on but says the manager says to direct me to order at regular price and they will make the adjustment.

I meantime, holding my phone in one hand, am navigating their website with the other hand and attempt to order the item. It shows that delivery is not available and that pickup isn't available either. Therefore I can't order it! All the time I'm on the phone with this guy. I keep poking around and discover they have an Open Box one, also top quality, the "Excellent" kind, just like the one I ordered earlier that got cancelled, contains original packaging and items. It says I can pick it up either 30 or 36 miles away or have free delivery on Dec. 3 (Tuesday). I go for the delivery. It's the exact same price I paid for the one that was cancelled.

I call back and ask if I have the 14 day return on this. The guy says for the holidays this is extended until Jan. 14, 2025. I say full refund? He says no, on cell phones they have a $45 restocking fee. Meantime, my provider, redpocket.com tells me I have to provide them with the IMEI number to know if it works on their networks. So, when I get it I have to get the IMEI and call them.

I make a waffle mix DIY that I pre-make and keep in a covered quart jar (no bugs can get inside). Consists of white flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, nonfat dry milk powder and salt.

Lately, I make my waffle with 1 oz. of that stuff, plus 3.75oz of my sourdough starter, that's kept in the fridge, 1/2 beaten egg, 0.37 oz. or so olive oil, 0.75 oz. water (I use a small kitchen scale for such things). Stir well and scrape into heated Belgian waffle iron, sprinkle on 1 tablespoon sesame seeds and bake. Eat with plain yogurt and my homemade dark tangy plum sauce (I canned a lot of that this summer).

I love me some pancakes or waffles made with sourdough, but holy shit making a batch of starter and keeping it alive is a huge 1stworldproblem in itself. You gotta weigh shit every time you feed it, you gotta remember to feed it. And some times even if you do everything exactly the same, the starter can still die on you. When my last started died I was sad and haven't made another yet.

But it makes for elite ass waffles for sure.

Went to the store for hand warmers for my Thanksgiving run. They were out of hand warmers so I bought toe warmers instead, thinking I could just hold the toe warmers in my hands. Got home and looked at the back of the toe warmer package and it explicitly warns against any use other than in shoes. It says the warmers are activated by oxygen and using them in an oxygen rich environment will result in the warmer getting very hot. Do I risk putting these in my gloves? Will I die?

Been on top of keeping my new (well, a few months "old" now) SD starter alive and well. It's really easy for me, actually. I was really into SD decades ago, got the idea to renew my fascination with it earlier in the year, bought a kit off Amazon (which didn't exist last time), AFAIK kits didn't exist in those days, duh.

I'm making SD pizzas now too! Regular.
