I saw some 80/20 extruded aluminum in a storage bin/pile at work and asked if I could take some, and they said yes. I got 4 72" lengths and 8 36" lengths, along with a bunch of brackets and connectors. There's still a ton more, so if/when they throw it out, I'll probably take more (even though I don't need that much.)

I'm going to use part of it to build an overhead dust collection setup for my table saw. My main dust collector gets all the stuff under the table/in the cabinet, but being able to have my shop vac collect the stuff that gets thrown on top of the table by the blade would be great.

A few months ago I *tweaked my 36" bar for my saw. Disgusted, I just took it off, put it in the scabbard, installed a shorter bar, finished the work I had to do, and hadn't looked at it since. I have some milling to do coming up, so I took it out to look at it, and it was better than I remembered. I thought I was gonna have to buy a new tip at the minimum, and spend a fair amount of time trying to get the tip lugs straight. It didn't look that bad. A couple whacks with a hammer, and one with a chisel to open the rail near the tip, and I /think/ it'll be ok. The real test is when it's on a saw spinning at ~50'/second.

*"tweaked" is understating what it looked like with the log bending it. Going from the old memory, I think it was about a 90° bend, but it sprang back into shape, not looking too awful from it's ordeal.

Did a pruning job today, and the client gave me and partner a tin of homemade pizzelle each. Since neither my partner nor anyone in his family likes licorice flavor, I got both of them, and they're amazing. Super thin, super crisp, and great flavor. Had to force myself not to eat the whole tin in one sitting.

Traded in a pixel 6 Pro at the Google store with an estimated trade in value of $450 last week.

Today, they notified me that my trade in was worth $460

It was definitely a pleasant surprise....

enjoy the 9 pro if you got one. such a good phone.

the only reason I'd upgrade to the 10 is if they put some crazy cool camera sensor in it, even with the chipset upgrade moving to TSMC. otherwise I'm on pace for the 11 pro.

I was stapling a strap to a cardboard box with a powerful stapler loaded with 9/16" staples not realizing my middle finger was on the other end. It could have gone 3/8" into the tip of the finger but barely penetrated. At first I didn't know how bad it was. It bled some. It hurts a little, but is nothing compared to what it could have been. Wake up call early in the morning.

I always feel bad when that happens but way I see it, the person that lost it probably knows it's long gone, and there's no way to track it back to them, and if you don't take it, someone else will.

Found 40 bucks rolled up into the metal railing right next to the entrance to McDonald's a while back. It was kinda odd, a $20 just sitting there, it was in plain view of the drive thru as well as anybody going in and out on foot such as Skip the dishes drivers etc. High traffic area. I grabbed it but felt reluctant, almost felt like a trap but at that moment there was no one around. Then I realize there was 2 20's stuck together!

Ended up donating it to the food bank.

I just randomly decided to check the smart info on the non-raided OS drive in my home automation server. It has over 118 thousand hours of operating time.

The first world win is that it has not failed yet lol. Props to this old Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB drive.

I'm actually in process of migrating to a new virtualized environment (from ESXi 5.5 to Proxmox 8.3) that will offer better features than my current one, such as HA, and being easier to manage since it has a web interface that works in Linux. In that process I will virtualize that box and just do pass through for the automation hardware. Really I could have done that on the old environment too, just never really crossed my mind. The home automation server came before the VM one.

I finally finished my speakers! The spray primer didn't adhere well to the base primer coat, so the finish is somewhat delicate. It would probably survive being dented, but anything more would likely crack it and cause the layers to separate from the base coat.

I ended up cracking off a couple of tiny spots on the front when installing the tweeter on one of them, so I did my best to cut the entire area out and add a wood insert (cherry). I then did the same to the other speaker so they match, and finished the wood inserts off with some Formby's tung oil I had laying around.

It's not perfect, but it looks pretty good! I'm going to hook them up later today and see how they sound...

Fantastic job! I think that little goof on the front was a blessing in disguise. The cherry inserts look pretty sharp. Makes it more interesting to look at.

Thanks! I agree. They would have looked a bit too plain otherwise.

I'm listening to them now for the first time and they sound pretty good. Really nice phantom center effect. The bass is decent too. Later tonight I'll A/B them against my Klipsch KG2s that I've been using for years. Type O Negative sounds awesome on them.

My mouse was acting up, and not scrolling right. I took it apart and found a whole new cat inside. After cleaning all that out, it's back to working well. It's just a cheap giveaway mouse that came with my refurb dell, but it works sufficiently well, and I didn't destroy it taking it apart, so I'm calling it a win.

Hair induced mechanical failure is something I'm familiar with, but it's usually because of my own hair! lol. Vacuum power nozzle is the main one. The hair gets all wrapped up in there real good. The little wheels stop turning after a while too.

Our landfill is now accepting yard waste separately from the rest. Putting benign yard waste in a municipal landfill is a crazy waste of expensive landfill space. The landfill is mulching the yard waste and using it for dust control and to establish vegetation on the final cover.

I was finally able to drop off an amazon return since the CP strike is over. It's for a return and it will be nice to get that money back. Glad to know that's done, I hate having something like that lingering and not being able to do anything.

Had ordered security cameras and found out you need a proprietary app to even be able to use them. So back they go. There was actually someone that reverse engineered it and wrote a program that would translate the stream to RTSP but decided to return them out of spite anyway.

Well that was fast, already got the refund. Figured they had to receive it first, but guess seeing that it got sent (I assume they know once it's scanned) is enough.
