@Indus

I think there's too many factors at play to make a fair comparison about home energy usage. I don't know whether it's a fair yet sweeping generalisation to say that our homes are probably generally built to withstand low temps better than yours are, and I think our temps are milder than yours. Aircon in UK homes is very rare in my experience; my parents had an aircon unit in the conservatory because otherwise it would heat up to an obscene degree in the summer. On the other hand, many places in the US seem much better suited to having solar panels.
Average winter temperatures in NYC are considerably colder than in London.

About AC in the southern US

I live on the Gulf Coast. My 18yr old AC units are going out. Replacing the current dual unit system and accessible flexible ducts with new more efficient variable speed units and better insulated (and routed) ducts is costing me $50K and a full 5days of labor. I’m financing it like a car (got 0%apr)

(For reference the hottest day here hit 110F /43.3C humidity ran from 96% but luckily down to 35% during the hottest part of the day)

wow! This is the like, the 2nd time you're finally starting to think about things properly! Congrats!

Now, let's go further. So, people "hate the democrats," but they love what they want to do and what they actually do.

Why do you think people hate the democrats? What is their motivation and where did this come from, especially if democrats actually do the things that they really want?

As I said IF.... what you presented is factual. I don't think it is.

Why do they Hate the democrats?
IMO they talk a good game and then turn around and don't do shit. Stringing people along as they have done with the Black community for decades.

I feel like conservatives need to decide if Democrats are either creating a welfare hammock that makes people not work or aren't doing shit. You sort of have to pick one.

Swing voters don't think voting for Republicans has consequences but when their judges cancel policies either passed by a Dem congress or implemented by a Dem president for partisan reasons people get angry at the Dems for "not doing anything" lol.

Anyway I think stuff like the ACA, limits on deductibles for drugs under Medicare, $35 insulin cap, IRS direct file, saving pensions from insolvency, transparency in pricing rules, etc are all pretty good.

We're going on year 9 of Trumps big beautiful healthcare plan that's going to replace Obamacare, try again.

I have a confession to make..

View attachment 111968

I worked an entire summer as a kid and bought a Jackson Kelly in 1995 for $900. Loved it.. used it for 10+ years.. couldn't find a buyer for it for a long time.. sold it in 2014 for $650.

In retrospect I would have been happier with a $300 Ibanez or investing that $900 in stocks.. lol

Clearly Trump's targeting the "we are stupid" crowd! Maybe I'll see them at a club complete with Trump sneakers, Trump watches and Trump guitars!
I still have a 90s MIJ Jackson King V I need to unload, shredder necks just aren't for me. The newer MIC Jacksons are actually quite good so the older MIJ stuff just doesn't have a ton of value unless you find a buyer who wants the exact thing you're selling.

Hm, and what prevents them from getting things done?

Which all along has just been giant cuts to the ACA and Medicare which they have not bothered to really conceal. If they finally succeed voters are going to go "nobody told me about this" which is both an indictment of their media diet and their severe gullibility.

No it isn't a matter of picking one.
Do just enough to keep them hanging on.

Because they don't want to. If they solved the issues they couldn't keep them stringing along...

If you don't mind me asking.. what amps did you use?

I started on a Crate (and a Charvel at a friends house) and eventually got a Peavey. My holy grail would have been the Mesa Boogie DC-5 but after years of going to Sam Ash every weekend to find out if they had one in stock.. still never got 1.. so whatever.. and btw I tried a Marshall once and didn't like it.. everyone looked at me like I was crazy!

Well I haven't seen any cuts to my Medicare.

So honest question since it's been 8 years since Obama was president.. despite all your hate for him.. do you think ACA or "Obamacare" as it's called.. was it good for you or bad for you and your family?

Do you live in some kind of alternate universe where the Democrats did not regularly expend giant amounts of political capital to advance their policies (healthcare, climate, infrastructure, etc)?

I absolutely agree there are too many factors to make a simple comparison. Per-unit cost of gas and electricity seems to be far higher here than the US, though.

I don't agree that UK homes are built to withstand low temperatures. Generally our housing stock is crap, with poor insulation (why is triple-glazing not more widely-used? I have double-glazing but it's still clear most of the heat escapes through the windows), but many of us just get used to being cold and wearing multiple layers of clothes indoors.

Air-conditioning is pretty-much unknown - don't think I've ever seen an AC unit in this country in my entire life, other than one place I worked where they had one specifically for the computer room (a mainframe, that didn't seem to like excessive heat).

Don't they make a tonne of US houses simply out of portacabin type crap?

I have a couple Marshalls I never bonded with, one of them is on consignment right now (bought them from someone that was selling them as a pair). I have an Orange tube head that I very much like.

Can't say - I would imagine it's hugely variable depending on region and income-bracket.

I just have a personal gripe about the crap quality of much UK infrastructure, the poor quality of home insulation and plumbing being two of the main gripes.

So many things it seems as if our ancestors failed to engage in any forward-planning and went for the cheapest short-term option.
