Question Issues with the GPU or something else?

I have this serious issue with my PC.
Sometimes the PC crashes at the very beginning when MSI loading screen appears. And sometimes it randomly crashes after some time while casually using the computer such as browsing the web, playing games etc. In the second case usually numerous pixels appear on the screen, it freezes and crashes.

I think that the issue is the Display adapter or graphic card itself, because when I go to the Device Manager and choose Display adapters there is an exclamation mark on my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, and when I choose properties on it, there is a message saying "Device status: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43). Recently, I can't even play games and also there is no sound output anymore.

I tried everything I could think of. The voltage or PSU has no issues, it has more than enough capacity. Even windows clean reinstall didn't help.

I did the clean uninstall of drivers with DDU in safe mode with no Internet connection and did a clean install of latest nvidia drivers. After I did this it worked, the sound was back and the graphic card was recognized. However, as soon as I tried to test it with Heaven Benchmark it worked only for about 30 seconds, afterwards pc went frozen, changed to black screen, and restarted Windows. Afterwards, same issue: no sound, gpu is not recognized and can't even start the heaven benchmark test.

Here are my PC specs:
- Processor AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor GHz
- 16 GB RAM
- Windows 11 Pro 64-bit OS
- ACPI x64-based PC
- MSI MS-7B78
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

Is the problem with the graphic card only or something else? Should I just buy a new graphic card and be able to solve the problem?

Thank you.

Sounds exactly like a bad graphics card to me.
Thank you for the reply. I presume that replacing the GPU should fix the issue but I find it strange that this affect sound output as well, because GPU should not be involved in computing the audio stream...
Regarding the GPU itself, I tried looking for another 1080 Ti but it's impossible to find it in brand new condition anywhere. I don't want to risk and buy a used one, but this graphics card is one of the best GPUs Nvidia ever made.
I was thinking about replacing it with RTX 3060 as it slightly overpowers it for almost the same price.

You can try the oven trick - https://www.overclockers.com/the-oven-trick-repairing-your-broken-video-card-with-an-oven/

Might get a bit more life out of it that way if it's the issue. Last time I had a card with code 43 I tried the heat gun, but it did not fix it. Heat gun is the preferable method unless you can get a toaster oven for like $10 at a thrift shop or flea market.

RTX 3060 12GB is a good budget card with a better feature set so it's a good pick.

Thank you very much for the tip. That sounds really intriguing but after I did a research on it it seems that this method has been done with a very high success rate. Unfortunately I'm a complete noob and I'm not even sure if I can replace the GPU by myself, let alone this baking...
I guess that my only option is the RTX 3060 12 GB while hoping to find a good video tutorial on youtube of how to replace the GPU properly.

I'm not familiar with the older AMD stuff but, since they have absolutely no GPU built into the CPU its possible it's tied to the GPU somehow.

Realtek® ALC1220 Codec

Looking at the board it shows its own HW ports for audio....

I suppose there could be some bus short for the audio issue. Due to the distance between the GPU / audio though there could be something tying the two together.

I can replace the GPU by myself,
It's only a couple of screws and power plugs. Should take a couple of mins to pop the side off the case and get the existing card out and new one in. If you have a lot of devices inside though it might make hitting the release latch a bit of a pain to get your fingers on it.

Thank you for the reply and information.
I found brand new

MSI GeForce RTX 3060 VENTUS 2X 12G OC Gaming Graphics Card

for 215 dollars, I guess it was a good deal. I really hope I won't screw up with replacing the card.

What kind of temps do you see on the GPU? Use something like hwinfo64 to check temps. You might just need to reapply thermal paste.

Thank you for the comment.
I tried using hwinfo64 a moment ago but it just stopped at "Detecting ATA/SCSI Drives..." and computer got frozen.

Ok, I finally got the screen after being frozen for few minutes.

Here is the screenshot.

I'm going from memory here. When you open the software a window should pop up. Check the sensors box.

I finally got it to load, here are the screenshots:

Well your temps at idle look fine so that's probably not the issue. As others said your GOU is probably the problem based on the symptoms you mentioned. Do you have any way to try a different GPU? Friends or family have one you could try?

Thing is, does the GPU driver list the card as supported? If they relegated it to legacy which will still get security updates, it maybe flaking out the system.
I would try the oven if older drivers don't help. Only saying this because, I had a GTX780 the driver installer let me install the driver, but when I tried opening D4 it would say driver unsupported. Elden ring would just black screen and had to hard reset. You should be able to grab older drivers from Nvidia. I actually had got a newer legacy driver after about 8 months.
But oven trick maybe the only option short of buying a newer card.

I wish I could but unfortunately there is no one that I could ask such thing for.
I ordered brand new RTX 3060 card that should arrive next week, but I'm suspecting that the issue might be a PSU and not the GPU itself. I bought this configuration as used so it might be PSU that got messed up as I find it odd that sometimes even the BIOS can't load properly.

Sorry for being a noob, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by supported and legacy... I used the Nvidia site, entered my card model that appeared in the list and downloaded the latest drivers that appeared in the list when I installed them.

Legacy would no longer receive game ready updates, Legacy would only include major security fixes.

I was able to cheat the driver thing somewhat by using a different card model, or just choosing to use older driver than the current. But it created issues. Some games wouldn't load, they would say driver version must be within a certain version range.
