Maybe I am in that group.One can make the maths come out so as to make that less mad.
21% of those polled _didn't_ have lower prices as a high priority.
That could account for 21 points of the 52% who favour tariffs.
The remaining 31% might overlap with the 18% who think (bizarrely) that tariffs would lower prices - leaving only 13% who believe completely incompatible things.
I feel I need to be careful because it’s easy to misunderstand.
I feel some tariffs are needed, I do not believe that will magically lower prices but it will give US industries a chance and that should lead to less dependence upon China who is not a friend plus add some manufacturing jobs the US has been lacking for decades.
I don’t feel the president elect was completely wrong about tariffs, I do feel the point of his tariffs were to punish people he didn’t like and there was no strategy or point to them other than make Trump feel good about himself.
Provided there is a plan and a point to tariffs I do not believe they are a bad idea.
