My prediction is that those that voted for Trump because of the economy are going to get a huge shock. My prediction is that it is almost certain Trump will trigger a severe recession/depression and I think he is going to bring back the scourge of stagflation as well. Stagflation, for those of you too young to have lived through the Nixon economy is inflation coupled with no job/income growth. Not fun times for us peons, probably great for the speculators like Trump.

Red China is selling off it's huge stash of US debt instruments at a very high rate and has greatly weaned themselves off of US agricultural imports. They are positioning themselves to prevail in any trade war Trump starts. Their actions also have the effect of raising interest rates here, which will hurt all sorts of sectors of the economy, especially housing, capital investment and the casino known as the stock market.

Of most personal concern to me is how much damage Trump will do to Social Security. I've seen several predictions that what he is planning on doing will push SS into insolvency by 2031.

Initially from him I expect a sugar high burst to the economy from tax cuts and givebacks. The deficit and federal debt will blossom again-probably even worse than he did in his first term.

Granted the right wing propaganda machine is very efficient. However, it is going to be hard for even them to shift blame to the Dems, seeing that Trump has the House, Senate, and Supreme Court in his pocket. OTOH, he doesn't have a veto proof majority, so if the Senate tries to block his crazy proposals they will be blamed as obstructionists.

Trump voters are generally stupid, one of the candidates has to attract the below the median intelligence voter, and he did it. You can't really explain the actual facts of abortion or taxes or the economy to them, they just absorb the Fox news talking points and that's their baseline. It is interesting that they believe the conspiracy theories about everything but not the actual truth, but that again is a sign of lower intelligence and lack of thinking skills.

I thought after a few weeks of wishing ill upon them that I would settle down and become more thoughtful regarding the election. But I didn't, I hope they all suffer mightily because of their choice, and I hope it hits them in the pocketbook and personally. They still won't vote Democrat ever, the next midterm will be decided by the lackadaisical voters that realized their error two years before. The problem in my view is that I would be more than happy to see the Trump voters suffer, it would be nice if we could only ensure they do and not the other decent voters that actually voted for bettering America.

Dems real first loss since 1988. Ralph Nader, Jill Stein don't get the blame for this.. the dems do!
George W. won the presidency and the popular vote (by about 3 million) in 2004. But yea, I agree the Dems have to seriously re-examine their priorities and messaging as this election was a pretty strong statement that they are not resonating with a lot of voters.

No wonder democrats are considered elitist snobs. I am sick of the electorate being blamed for the dem losses in 2024. The Democrats failed to secure the border, overemphasized identity politics/gender issues, and failed to drive home a strong message about how they were going to help the working middle class economically. Then, to drive the final nail in the coffin, Biden failed to resign in time to allow an open primary, so a person that dropped out with a minuscule % of the primary votes in 2020, and ran as a far left candidate, became the nominee, and tried unconvincingly to move toward the center. As the old Bible proverb says (to paraphrase), before you look in your brother's eye, look in your own (speaking of the Democratic party and its leadership, not you personally).

Messaging may need to be re-examined, but we should not discount the strong, worldwide anti-incumbent bias that existed across the globe (left and right) in elections.

And from what we can glean from current data, places where Harris campaigned had less of a rightward swing than other areas, so the message that was being sent did break through, but perhaps not enough to counter the issue noted re: incumbency.

Yes, if you only consumed conservative media and saw Republican attack ads, that's what you'd come away with. Kamala didn't run on gender issues and she had plenty of things that would help the middle class, you've even commented on those plans.

Yeah I'm sure it's the dems fault for pushing Medicare for all since:

Poor dumb Trump voters. Their leader spends years denigrating the liberals, but one time they think Biden called them garbage and OH MY FUCKING GOD it's so traumatic. Trump voters are intellectually lazy, easily manipulated through their fears of god/faggs/colored folks/ abortion etc. but we are expected to dumb down the real issues facing them that they blindly accept so they will vote for themselves. Fuck that and fuck them, let the country go down the tubes if majority rules and the majority are fucking stupid lizard brained morons.

And screw the notion that we should always appease these idiots. How about they for one second give up on forcing religion on everyone else and actually care about things like not gunning down kids in schools and not letting women die from life saving health care because they want more white babies born into this world.

Why? Seems to me it's the voters that are to blame. They aren't the slightest bit aware of the profound state of their mental illness and would rather everyone die than face that fact. The only thing you can say about democrats is that having the same disease themselves they also have no intention of wanting to know how to message against it.

Machines programmed to sleep and only imagine they are awake in a bad way. They will chase their tails forever. Trump is just what mental illness looks like as it progresses.

All these Latino vs Latino ethnic axe grindings are going to look totally moronic in a few months. All these people have decided to see what they want and it’s gonna bite big when reality is different.

These people are about to find out that "criminal" has extremely broad meaning when it comes to deportation, especially when it's put into the hands of an administration that gives 0 fucks about due process and rights.

I don't think any person that can be taken seriously would argue that he has a mandate.
A popular vote that is by and large a narrow margin for victory, and it's not even a majority of the voting public.

But he's going to immediately touch all the big third rails on day 1 to ensure maximum unpopularity from the start. It's going to be Bush "privatize social security" on steroids level popular.
