Ok thank you guys! I wasn’t able to find much info about single vs dual towers, but most of the videos I have seen are just using the dual tower or stock coolers so I wanted to be sure. Every item I have ordered from Amazon has been a nightmare so I wasn’t excited about having to deal with them on another issue

The build is finally done! I still need to install the rgb controllers so I don’t have the rainbow thing going on, and I have some stuff to help hide cables from the back of the desk in the mail, but it’s all put together. I don’t think I did too bad of a job with cable management either. What do you think

Do you have a bootable Win10/11 setup USB created properly using Media Creation Tool or Rufus?

Can't see if CSM is turned on but if it is turned on, you need to turn it off and enable UEFI. CSM is for older OSes like Windows 7 or even older.

With UEFI boot enabled, it should read the USB and boot from it and start the Windows setup.

I realized that I need a boot drive not long afterwards, I don’t but I’m going to see if I can go get one from Best Buy before work. Idr seeing csm but it shows the latest bios update as of late may 2024 so I don’t think I have an issue there.

Yeah and you need to prepare it with the latest ISO with Rufus or format and create the bootable USB directly with Media Creation tool. This can only be done on a spare PC or laptop.

I needed a flash drive anyways, so I called a local repair shop and they made one for me and tested it. I’ll get everything running once I’m off work!

Alright guys, I’m back with one more question. I’ve got the parts list for the computer I’m building my son. I just want to know what everyone thinks of the pairing between a Ryzen 5 5500 & a soyo branded rx5700xt? I’ve got the build at $500 currently

What's the question?

Assuming you already have the 5500 installed it's a matter of the GPU giving the desired output for the games being played. The GPU should have a pairing recommendation for max benefit.

Never heard of Soyo though but, looking at a listing for it on NE it seems a bit cheap @ $162

The models I've seen thrown around for AMD GPUs though usually are 6/7000 series cards.

There's an XFX 16GB for $320

It's all subjective though at this point if you already have the card. I wouldn't spend the $162 for an older card when the latest ones are a smidge more. A lot changes over time when it comes to the guts of cards and CPUs.

I don’t have anything as of now. I’m building a computer for my son, as a Christmas gift. He’s young and really only cares to play Minecraft/roblox as of now, it’s more that he’s interested in computers. That being said I’m trying to keep a budget of $500 or less, considering I still need to purchase peripherals. From what I’ve found, soyo is a Chinese company that’s known for its reliability. I’ve just seen a lot thrown around between the 3600 and 5500 so I was just asking if this combo is fine. Also i haven’t found a clear cut answer but the two cpus seem to need b450 and b550 motherboards, so i just want to be sure before i pull the trigger on everything

In short is this gpu/cpu combo good or is there something better for the money

B650 would be more savvy as it's going to be relevant longer and has the option to upgrade if needed. It should hold value longer when it comes time to sell it when he outgrows it.

Peripherals are a one time purchase either way and can move from one system to the next.

To hit a low price point, you'll probably need to buy a used GPU. It is generally not advisable to buy an RX 5700 XT at this time.*

Alternately Minecraft/Roblox should run on an AMD APU like the Ryzen 5 8600G. You could always get a discrete graphics card later if he wants to play demanding games.

Hope I picked the right one, but check out this video?

* It's really hard to know what you're going to be getting. Can you really trust that "Soyo" will honor its warranty? Don't do it.

I actually looked into used gpus more last night and found a solid deal on a 6600 from a well reviewed eBay seller. It seems like it should be a better option and actually save me a bit of money as well.
So the parts list is as follows
Ryzen 5 5500
Cheap cooler master cpu cooler
Sapphire pulse rx6600
As rock b450 mobo
Silicon power 16gb rgb ram kit(3600 cl18) the rgb is more important to him than the most ideal speed.
Msi mag a650bn psu
And just a silicon power 1tb drive.

I think this ought to be a pretty decent setup, given the budget, and should definitely be more than what he needs. It also seems to follow right around most of the $500 budget guide videos.

I appreciate you taking time to send this to me! Let me know if there’s any glaring issues I don’t see

The ideal speed is 3733. You could probably get there easily by relaxing the timings to CL20.
Thanks Igor! I’m definitely still trying to figure out what a lot of this means, it’s almost like learning a new language. I was under the impression lower was better, until seeing a video yesterday that explained that amd processors don’t always like the lowest/highest numbers

Yep, AMD CPUs definitely defy logic!

It's crazy that just DDR4-3000 with tuned timings can outperform almost anything below DDR4-3800!

In your case, it won't matter that much coz Radeon drivers have far less overhead than Geforce drivers.

Still, getting that level of performance seems easy peasy for your kit if you decide to go with the DDR4-3000 manual timings.
