Way to go, assholes. Smith drops charges against Trump because Trump is King.

Y'alls better learn to capitalize King if you want to stay in this America!

Let’s be honest those charges weren’t going anywhere anytime soon. However I agree I can’t wait to see what sort of awesome policy Rs will enact and I will be here to remind them of what they’ve done whilst they have the trifecta.

I'm trying to remember in which Asian country it is that 'insulting the king' is a crime. On one hand, this sounds entirely on brand for Trump, on the other, will it be too on-the-nose even for Trump fanatics? It falls nicely into the "rules for thee not for me" principle of conservatism though.

- edit - there is no prize for being the umpteenth person to let me know that it is in fact Thailand where 'insulting the king' is a crime

Best thing is, Vance and other butt kissers saying this is the end of political prosecution. They will move forward and unite the country. Let’s wait and throw back into their face these tweets when well when they prosecute their political opponents.

Motion to dismiss without prejudice, meaning that it can be revived again later (hold your breath on that one kids). This was always going to be the outcome of him winning, the case being dropped that is. The few minor positives are that it's unlikely that the "without prejudice" can be challenged. Also, sounds like this means a report will make it out prior to the new admin coming in.

Or just get blunt with those assholes. Ask them directly how many of you will offer up your underage daughters for Matt Gaetz to fuck?

Would it have gone anywhere if it was someone else?

Probably can't, statute of limitations would apply to any revived charges (although a new prosecutor could make the claim that Trump's time in office shouldn't count, this Supreme Court would certainly disagree)

Probably a lot of the folk who tried to put a Trump behind bars were not aware that the people would rise up to defend him. People don’t like their idols fucked with, especially by evil people he was working so hard get rid of to help them when they stole the election and loosed the legal dogs of war on him.

What goes around comes around. Enjoy the camps.

They would almost certainly decide that the letter of the law should reign supreme here to protect Trump, whereas other "major questions" can overturn the simple, plain meaning of the law.

Look at the bright side, you're going to get what you've always wanted, no more electoral collage!

I think that's the least of the worries regarding restarting things TBH. Charges can get "tolled" when circumstances cause the statute of limitations to be passed. And it's already been charged, not like the case was initially brought up AFTER it expired.

Statute of limitations are typically tolled while someone cannot be charged with a crime and I'm not at all sure SCOTUS would disagree.

That being said it hardly matters as Trump will just pardon himself or have someone else pardon him. Not to mention SCOTUS made the breadth of 'official activity' so wide and nebulous that I imagine they would find their way to Calvinball this back and forth until Trump dies.
