Blackmail suggests that Trump could possibly be shamed. I doubt there is much he could have done that would move the needle for his supporters.

Trump doesn't really give a shit about his supporters, doesn't need to. This is about Putin manipulating a capricious man child who only cares about money and himself. Maybe he does something to move the needle for repugs on the hill, or say, the IRS, then it might be a different story. Though a bought and paid for SCROTUS and the greasy dipshit's lifespan might render that irrelevent long term, a desperate Putin might not care. He's running out of time, not just boots, money and weapons, and he wants chaos.

Trump may not have a lot of shame, but he's got a lot of pride and very little brains. I can see Putin still able to work with that.

Quick question for you military nerds...how realistic/unrealistic was the ending of Guy Ritchie's the Covenant?

Haven't seen it yet, but we're talking a Hollywooded up version of Matt Zeller's terp asylum thing right? I watched the trailer. I guess you can't make a movie out of Matt making angry phone calls and doing paperwork for years, right? haha yeah I'll watch it

I thought it was solid. Definitely worth the watch.

Coming from a military enthusiast but didn’t serve. The ending in theory could happen. But it depends on what exactly you’re referring to.

1) Respect Ukraine's independence and sovereignty in the existing borders
We have failed to uphold our end of Ukraine's nuclear disarmament.
The death toll these past few years will be nothing compared this war's ultimate lesson: That nuclear weapons are the ONLY solution. Ukraine gave them up and is dying horribly for it. Never again means nuclear proliferation. For everyone and their dog.

Ned Stark and Ukraine both held a piece of paper. America's word will NEVER be worth a damn thing again. Only nuclear weapons development will "protect" other nations.

I'm curious-why didn't you include what I see as probably most significant, which is the post Soviet Union collapse negotiations between USA, Russia and Ukraine to remove nuclear weapons from Ukraine (it had a lot of USSR missile silos and equipped nuclear missiles. Those negotiations result in tri-party signed agreements to remove the nuclear weapons, destroy them (with USA and Russia actively participating in that destruction) and both Russia and US agreeing not to attack or invade Ukraine.

To be honest, because i do not know everything. I read the news and try to keep track but i am just a human.
And sometimes i just get fed up with al those maniacs that just want to start wars, pollute the world just because of being greedy despiteful simpletons in one way and extremely intelligent the other way.
The thing is that the very interesting subject that you mention here. In the Netherlands there is the problem that the news is biased in the sense what some people in the Netherlands find interesting for the public.

Can you add such articles from for example NYT, Al Jazeera, BBC news, CNN, German news websites ?
Just to name a few examples.
Does not have to be up to date. The older news articles can be quite elaborating.

Governing and anti-corruption standards.
Can you elaborate a bit more please ? This all makes this thread a lot more interesting instead of the disturbing posts to me like :

  • Bomb Russia.
  • Bomb Ukraine.
  • Bomb everything.

That is just too much war mongering here...
It is obvious we have al these "clans" there in the former USSR, created by many oliargs and that can be an advantage but also a disadvantage.

As a sidenote :
I remember how a Duke in Britain was extremely wealthy and kind of took care of the peasants.
Like he created a sort of welfare system by creating food reserves and other reserves for the people as well.
Although a single group of people where the Duke was the highest in rank, made all the decisions. The peasants had a good life.
It was a sort of democracy and welfare system when there was no work to do, like farmers not being able to grow vegetables in the winter.

Like a ruler with all his followers...
See where i am getting at ?

Also, what i am missing here, are the gems of posts where people post the latest and greates in army stuff.
Like long ago someone posted those articles about the F22 needing radiotransceivers working at the 10GHz to 100GHz range , to let the target computers exchange target data between the aeroplanes. If i remember correctly.
Like multiple of those F22 working like a single unit.

I guess that technology is now used for drones.
The computers in a drone has less to worry about G - forces , than a human in a jetfighter.

I remember how the F117 bombers (Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk) where disclosed to the public during the 1990s.
Nobody from the general public, knew those "at the time, cloaked for radar" aeroplanes existed until the war in Eastern Europe in former Yugoslavia during the 1990s.

Russia is now offering to cancel debts for some new recruits, rather than paying them with a near worthless Russian toilet paper substitute.

Hurry up and go bankrupt, Russians. Your hero brought you right back to 1991 - time to get rid of him.

I'm no currency trader but isn't that a massive shift? It's devalued ~8% against the dollar in the last week.

I’ve read that many were expecting a big shift due to new sanctions on Gazprombank, but this may be exceeding expectations.

However, it could possibly restrengthen.

“"The new sanctions may complicate not just settlements for exports but also for imports, which in turn will lower demand for foreign currency," said Bank St Petersburg analysts. "As a result, we should not rule out a scenario of some strengthening of the Russian currency in the medium term."”

The Russian reserve bank has relaxed some currency restrictions on its exporters. They did this since Putin wants more Rubles from its oil and gas exports. Unfortunately it also screws importers and therefore the man on the street.

The high interest rates and the high Ruble means hard times for alot of companies. I guess if companies begins to fall over it means unemployed folk available for contracts in Ukraine. Its economic cannibalism of the highest order.

The Feudal Age died in Europe a fair while back for the betterment of human kind. The rise of the middle class (thanks to the Black Death) gave us the Renaissance and the Industrial revolution. It also gave rise to America, as the middle class had the means to buy passage to the new colonies.

Your statement... "the peasants had a good life" is woefully ignorant. There was no democracy. There was no welfare system. There was no middle class. They were virtual slaves bound to their ruler (owner) and parcel of land for their entire lives.

Ukrainian SF are some of the most battle tested warfighters on the planet right now, some hard SOBs. How they refuse to leave wounded behind, how they will mount rescue raids to get to other AFU groups pinned down or surrounded? Damn, hats off to that. Quite the contrast to Russians shooting each other, the beatings and torture, the abandoning or executing of their wounded.
