Well, all the usual suspects are here. So this is the right time to make this post.

Considering all of you are now planning for the 2028 election, does this mean none of you think 2024 is going to be the last election ever held in the US anymore? Do you all admit your doommongering over how 2024 will be the last election to be held in the US if the Republicans win was just a cynical way to get more votes for Kamala?

Fucking hypocrites all of you. The truth is, all of you here too use fear to get the things you want.

There will be no elections.

You and your immigrant kind will be sent to walk on landmines and die for Trump's entertainment or eat poisoned cabbages when you're not farming them as the new slaves.

You think a paper saying you're naturalized will save you?

LOL!

The smart ones have already left.. the ones that are unable to.. await the whip of the white skinned masters!

I don't know nearly enough about how the US system works to contradict you, but is there presently a Senate who can vote to approve or disapprove? I thought it was still in the middle of being updated following the elections (that gave the Republicans control)?

Most of all though, anything that requires the Democrats to be as single-minded, and cynically self-serving as are the Republicans is probably not going to happen.
Senate still controlled by the Dems. If SS retired they have time to replace. SCOTUS only take a majority now

Nominating Matt Gaetz is just a beginning sign of the damage Trump will do in the next 4 years. Or I guess you just forgot he tried to nominate a pedophile?

I guess you also fucking “ forgot” Trump tried to steal the 2020 election and you are so stupid to think Trump will follow the rules now. The brainwashing is beyond redemption for people like you.

Newsom would get wrecked on the national stage. Instantly tagged as a Hollywood/coastal elite and GG. Or they'll bring up how he skirted his own lockdown mandates during COVID. Or all the mismanagement in CA in general.
It that I’m necessarily backing Newsome people didn’t bother to remember how Trump mismanaged Covid so don’t think that will hurt him

Democrats want to win in 2028?. Call all republican magas rapists and terrorits and garbage. Stop apologizing and stop letting the media play the double standard. Democrats are pussies who won’t go low. That time is over. Call Trump a rapist on the congressional floor, call him a fascist liar. Blame him for every problem and every issue and remind Americans when bananas cost $499 that Trump is the blame because he is con man and stupid. Remind the maga that liberal bullets have the same stopping power

Stop talking about policy. No one cares about policy. Start hitting back at the stupid uneducated ones like greenman and mock them for being fleeced by a conman. Tell every American who didn’t vote or voted for Trump they deserve all the pain that is coming. Lost your abortion right? Too fucking bad. Lost your health care? To fucking bad. Your cousin is in an internment camp being raped? To fucking bad.
Democrats already told us how awful Trump was. Worked out well in the last election, didnt it? They tried to impeach and convict him twice, and to prosecute him for the Stormy Daniels case, the Georgia election case, and Jan 6. How did those work out? All it really accomplished was to play into the hands of the Rep agenda of victimhood, and ultimately gave us the immunity ruling, which will most likely prove to be the final mechanism for Trump to steamroll his agenda through in the next four years.

I am all for it, but the Dem majority is very tenuous. The effort could fail if Sinema or Manchin don't fall into line. And there is a danger there if SS retires and the Dems dont get their nominee confirmed in time, then of course there will be a vacancy handed to Trump for immediate appointment, with a Senate majority to confirm it.

CA is in a state of disarray though. He would be the wrong person to push a YIMBY message when it's one of the most unaffordable places to live with no help in sight. And is CA still suffering net migration loss? It's simply not a bastion of proper governance right now. Too easy to attack him - "he wants to make America look like CA." He's done.
Unfortunately, you are correct. Newsome speaks well and has charisma, but he is burdened with the baggage that California is too expensive, crime ridden, over-regulated, and driving people to other states. It seems ridiculous to nominate someone with such obvious vulnerabilities to attack.

As others have said, it is probably too early to propose specific names. However, I think in general, it would be prudent to nominate a moderate democratic candidate, (say a governor, senator, or representative) who has been elected in a red or purple state. Someone like Beshears of Kentucky. There may not be such a person available, but at least make it some dem with a high approval rating in a red or moderate state, who has proven he can connect with both sides.

Edit: Sorry, I cant resist. Please, oh God, please don't let it be Tim Walz.

I think it's a pipe dream to try and force through a supreme court nominee now, especially with the plodding walk the Senate does and the limited floor time remaining in the year. Manchin also doesn't want to play ball, and you see this even with a recent vote for lower courts (he sided with Republicans; fortunately, a bunch of Republicans were out visiting SpaceX the day of the vote, so Democrats were still able to push those ones through).

Manchin has fucked the dems harder than any Republican could..

It was due to him no minimum wage increase, no child tax credit, no internet subsidy..

Some dem that.

But dems also need to get a few red states to flip their senate seats.

Manchin has fucked stuff, but Democrats have also kind of fucked themselves. They should have taken his deal on permitting reform to help speed the IRA funded projects along. Nothing inspires confidence in the government to take on more work like seeing it get bogged down in some elaborate process when it comes to doing tangible shit.

They also wouldn't have gotten anything without him. You pass legislation with the people you have, not the people you wish you have.

I don't think Schumer is the right person for the job.. need someone with a bigger vision who takes bigger gambles..

There are a lot of Senators with "Senate Brain" - stuck on the notion of process. What bigger gambles are there to take with a 50-50 Senate? The public isn't paying attention, and you're not going to be successful on pressuring the conservative Democratic senator from WV, who also happens to have a huge case of Senate Brain and being a nincompoop.
----

The bigger issue is state and local level Democrats not using their powers to fix many issues that are driving the narrative of "economy bad" - like crushing municipal governments and their arcane and corrupt zoning/variance process that blocks new housing, or just making the state governments more responsive to their people.

The democrats need to pass no more bailouts of farmers or other industries that fail due to Trump. I remember the farming bail out on his first term due to his tariffs. The pussycrats should have voted no. No socialization of losses anymore. Let it all fail moving forward. The poor righties need to know there are real world consequences.

No, they didn’t. They were high brow. They meandered on about not going back and namby pamby weak criticism.I am not talking about the typical democratic waffling and tut tuts. The republican media is what the democrats need to mirror. The maga are garbage and hateful.

They need to expose the media hypocrisy of holding democrats to a mythical behavior while ignoring right wing garbage.

I bet the democrats telling the republicans to go fuck themselves on every policy and telling American voters this what you wanted. To be ruled by racist garbage losers than reap the benefits. Democrats will have to let the dumbasses in this country suffer

lol.

This would make a lot more sense if Trump hadn't attempted a coup already.

'sure he tried to end democracy before but he got that all out of his sytem'. lol. The sheer stupidity.

I think there will certainly be an "election" in 2028. OTOH, I am sure the republican trifecta (presidency, House, Senate) and all of Trumps appointed cronies will do everything they can to redistrict everything possible to their advantage, disenfranchises as many voters as possible, and make it easier to appoint electors and throw out unfavorable votes. The Dems better hope they get a majority the House in the midterms, or if Trump or his surrogate loses in 2028, you can bet they will try to invalidate enough electors to throw it to the House for final determination.

Edit: I suppose, worst case, Trump could declare some sort of "national emergency", and claim he had to cancel the election and stay in power, but even with the current strength of the MAGA agenda, I find it hard to believe the country would stand for that.

Who does redistricting?

Who controls voting rules?

It's simple.. there's a vacuum on the dem side.. they gave up the heartland.

The only ones doing the talking are the Trumpers.

Who controls voting rules?

I think we're missing an important lesson in this. Even if you do elect Biden.. 30+ states like what the right wing says and they vote that way.. so the senate stifles Biden and any democrat.

You're going to have to either turn 25-30 states blue full time or you're going to have to do local and state fixes rather than on the country scale.

So affordable healthcare/ equal rights/ abortion protections for blue states.. and say fuck you to the supremacy clause.

How did they 'give up the heartland', specifically?
