Anyone watching this guy lately? Went to the game the other day and JFC Wemby dropped 28 points, 13 boards, 7 assists, 5 blocks, and 2 steals on an OKC team leading the conference and my voice is still fscked from yelling when he was dropping threes in the fourth and then dad-blocked Holmgren to seal the win.

Then he followed it up last night with 31 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 6 blocks, and 1 steal vs Indiana.

I know the team ain't great but this guy is ridiculous.

Dude's a beast. Watching him play, it looks awkward seeing this slim, lanky dude pulling up shots like he does. He looks too skinny and fragile, and then he can cross you up. Weird. I'd like to see him put on more muscle/weight but the kid can ball.

In almost every season, Chet Holmgren would be leading the RoY race (which he briefly did about 2 months ago). This season, Wemby pretty much has it locked up already as long as he plays the required 65 games.

Muscle will come naturally with weight training and age. Wemby plays like a "wing" so I figure he'd actually be less effective at 275 pounds. Look at Zion Williamson. For all of his natural athleticism and leaping ability, his excess weight is a huge problem at such a young age. Zion would still be a wrecking ball at 255.

It was kinda nuts in the OKC/Spurs game seeing him stuff the shit out of Holmgren who is also a 7 footer. He stuffed him like I'd stuff my 8 year old lol.

ROY doesn't have a 65 game requirement. DPOY does though. Not that I think he'll beat out Gobert, but I'd love to see him make it competitive. I don't think Victor really has the handles to play as a wing. He can face up and take PF and C off the dribble but when he was being guarded by SF and SG early in the season he would get stripped a lot. And still does some games. He has gotten a lot stronger getting and holding position as the season has gone on though, to the point teams can't get away with putting swings on him anymore. He has become a pretty decent option on the block now too. Not that he's Duncan in the post but it has become a reliable option a few times a night.

Yeah Zion refusing to lose weight is sad as hell. It's why I would have tried to move him last summer, because either he isn't committed to the Pelicans or he isn't committed to basketball. Either way it's bad for the Pelicans. Seeing how much athleticism he has lost this season even while healthy vs where he was 3 years ago has to have dropped his trade value significantly.

Dude has had some really insane blocks this season. This one on Anfernee Simons is probably my favorite (first highlight of the video)

This one he put on KAT was pretty filthy too

Loved this one on Giannis too when he threw his body weight into Victor to bump him off position and still got rejected

And then the double block on Jabrari Smith his second game in the league

Damn dude has 40 points, 20 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 blocks in the win over the Knicks the other night. Then got fined $25,000 for throwing the ball up into the stands. First 40/20 game from a rookie since Shaq in 1993.

I don't follow regular season basketball closely but I feel as if Wemby is the real DPoY. If nothing else, we should be talking about a close race instead of Gobert skating to another win. Similarly to the MVP award, they are weighing team defensive performance too much here.

ESPN recaps year 1 of the Wemby experience.

I saw Broussard making the argument for Wemby for DPOY the other day cite that Gobert with 3 DPOY and 11 years in the league has 7 games of 7+ blocks in his career. And Wemby had 7 games of 7+ blocks so far in his rookie season at the time. Victor just got his 8th tonight with 7 blocks in Memphis.

It's amazing how much of a difference he makes on the Spurs defense. They had the worst defensive rating in league history last year and in games Wemby misses they're even worse this year. Yet when he's on the floor they're something like 10th to 15th in defensive rating (I forget exactly which). Having watched almost all Spurs games this year it was insanely frustrating every time the 6:00 mark hit in the first quarter and Pop would sub Victor out, and then the other team would go on a quick 9-0 or 13-2 run and then Victor would have to dig the Spurs out of a hole when he came back in for the second quarter.

They do not give DPOY awards to guys who play on the worst team record wise in the Western conference. The Spurs have the 4th worst record in the NBA.

One game after Jokic obliterated Gobert, Wemby goes for 34/12/5 and the Spurs upset the defending champs. Nuggets somehow blew a 17 point fourth quarter lead against a ragtag Spurs line-up.

Due to tiebreakers, OKC now is the #1 seed going into the final games on Sunday.

I still have nightmares from my visit to San Antonio last year when they found out they had the 1st pick in the draft and people were honking their car horns non-stop for hours...

It was funny because Aaron Gordon and Jamal Murray were playing really physical and trying to punk Victor in the second. He was pissed and came with this 17 points in 3 minutes run in the third.

Though it was mostly Sandro Mamukelashvili who carried the offense in the fourth. Ugh Spurs fans have been wanting Pop to put Mamu in the rotation all season but didn't get to see it until now when they're trying to tank with Sochan, Vassell, and Keldon Johnson out for the last games of the year.

Damn that is an unreal sequence. The way that these big men now a days (Wemby, Jokic, Bam, Embiid) can bring the ball up the court and make plays now a days is just unreal. And then add in the 3 point threat from most of them too and it's like wtf do you do? This was unheard of like only 10 years ago, let a lone back in the 90s NBA.

When I saw Murray on Wemby I was screaming at my screen "GET THE MISMATCH" and you could see how hard they were trying to get the ball to him lol. It looked like me trying to check my 9 year old.
