Yeah the Intel that created the entire industry and everything it will be a Sad End.
I think the biggest Mistake for the Trinity was not finding a suitable Successor
You mean created the x86 industry after killing all the competition in the 80s and 90s?

Since x86 was a really poor and ugly design which forced 64KB segmentation and the horrible things programmers had to back then (remember the Motorola 68000 was in the running for the PC and it has 32 bit data and address registers even back then), I wouldn't shed any tears.

Plus they way Intel played really dirty one throughout the year.

Nope not only x86
They created SRAM/PCIE/USB/CMOS Fabrication/EUV Lithography and much more sure they wanted monopoly over x86 but they created everything hell even HKMG/FinFet TSMC Followed Intel also the thing that motivates the Industry Moores Law even now so if it comes to Historical Importance there is no Semi company that come close to Intel

Intel is as guilty with Qud core CPU for a decade and Anti competitive practice

Does anyone remember creating a special boot disk with autoexec.bat with himem or something like that just to boot to dos and have enough available memory to run doom1/2?
I am too young for that

Don't think I had a special boot disk but yes, if you wanted to play RAM hungry DOS games, being able to edit autoexec.bat and config.sys was a requirement.

I remember extended memory was easier to make available than expanded memory which really made me hate any game that needed expanded memory, not that there were that many. I can actually think of only one game that wouldn't ever even launch on my 486DX2-66 PC. It was some kind of weird science-y game. Left me pretty frustrated.

486DX2 ran Doom 2 like a dream. Amazing machine for its time. Had CD-ROM drive and Sound Blaster!

Hard to forget. Config.sys was like:

device=c:\dos\himem.sys /v
device=c:\dos\emm386.exe noems verbose
dos=high,umb
files=40
buffers=40
stacks=9,256

Had to load MS-DOS into UMB to free up more conventional memory for games!

DOOM used DOS/4G 32-bit memory manager, so they did not need tweaking himem, however from my fading memory this manager wasn't compatible with EMM386.sys being active, so this is what probably reboot was needed for.

Both CMOS and SRAM were invented by Fairchild, not Intel. EUV lithography was invented and developed by US research agencies.

The ICs(CMOS Fabrication) were Co developed by Kilby (Ti) and Noyce(Intel)
, not Intel. EUV lithography was invented and developed by US research agencies.
Intel was the biggest part they funded the entire research also they funny part Intel/Nikon/Cannon were denied the Rights and ASML got them
This got the entire history

There were more than "US research agencies" involved in the development of EUV. There were several researchers involved in Europe as well, and some in Asia. It was a multinational effort.

@511

That's a twisted way of looking at things. ASML tells a different tale:

Yes, there was the US-based EUV LLC, and Intel may have funded them considerably, but they were far from the only player involved. And it takes more than raw spending to develop something. That's like claiming the US Government created the Internet (or Al Gore or anyone else).

Intel BOD again hired an executive search firm to find a replacement for Gelsinger. They are rumor to be given only a 6-month contract to complete the mission. Personally, I would choice Elon Musk! He knows the technology firsthand and has the visionary and management talents to turnaround Intel. Elon plays video games, so he is a gamer too!

Intel BOD seems to be one of its lingering problems IMHO.

They probably need to spin off foundry or get some sort of seperation so they can at least get all of them pumping out chips at full bore. They need that income, and Intel R&D doesn't seem like its going to come through enough to hang those expectations on.
Split foundry off under some young proven exec who's worked in the industry somewhere and let him cut it down to a lean and mean competing machine.
Might have to suck it up a bit and try to pick up a lot of non-Tier1 sectors like automotive, etc, but if if fails anymore its going to end.
nVidia could buy Intel with back of the couch spare change at this point, and you know Jensen would just love to do that for the humiliation of Intel alone.
Not too mention nVidia is about market cap of Apple, and seems to have a lot of secret squirrel stuff going on in its own skunkworks.

Musk has much bigger fish to fry than Intel. And more fish: Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink, Twitter, xAI, Boring Company.
