I am dealing with an infrequent but persistent Script Error notice reappearing on the desktop, an appearance not associated with any running app as follows:

"An Error has occurred in the script on this page"

Line 0

CHAR: 0

ERROR: Script Error

Code 0

https://www.googleoptimize.com/optimize.js?id=GTM-PQGRTLR

Do I want to continue running scripts on this page ?

Yes No

Picking either choice does not matter as the notice will disappear after several choices are made. Can anyone suggest a way to defeat the notice ?

In the linked script, I didn't fully reverse engineer it but a quick glance shows two references to https:\\www.nero.com

Do you have any Nero software installed? You stated " appearance not associated with any running app" but is it possible you have a Nero app or service running in the background? If not, what about something from Google, even Chrome browser?

I've never seen that error with Chrome, but I did have their annoying Software Reporter Tool keep re-enabling itself after deliberate actions to shut it off, kind of like malware if you ask me.

I have Nero Update running in Services. There is no app switch to turn it off so I will stop it. I suppose the service will continue after a reboot at which point will delete the service. Thx.

Disabling the service (via running services.msc?) should be a permanent disablement, tho' IDK if doing so would generate some other error msg but I doubt it, probably all it was is a standalone meant to incessantly check for updates which you can do manually if/when you have a need for a newer version of whatever Nero software you have, or if you never use Nero software, just uninstall the software.

Thx. I use Nero 3-4 times a year so uninstalling and reinstalling will be a last resort ! If I stop the " running" "Nero update service" via Task Manager/ Services it comes up running again on the next boot. However I found "Nero Update" in "Processes" and after I Ended Task that Process disappeared. Will advise.

You don't kill it in Processes, you use services.msc to DISABLE it. After running service.msc, pick it in the list, double click it, then on the window that pops up, on the General tab, click the "Startup Type" drop down menu and choose disabled, then "ok" or "apply" that. After that you can also click the "stop" button to stop the current instance of it but either way it should not be running after the next reboot.

If by chance, some other Nero process or service is running and when it finds the updater service disabled, it then enables it again, then you just stop that other Nero process or service from loading at boot time, too.

Copy that Kimosabe. Nero Update is Disabled.
Now, we wait.

Ugh
We came, We saw, We conquered ! Sorta.
The first reboot with Disabled failed to stop the Notice from appearing within 5 min. So I improvised: I set the Startup to Manual and have not had an appearance since. I use this machine constantly so I cannot confirm success out to infinity but can say it looks like we did it which makes no sense. How can Manual be more effective than Disabled ? Will drugs help ?

It might be more effective if as I stated previously, there is something else by nero that checks for that process, or it isn't the process causing it in the first place.

Thank you for the help. If the notice reoccurs, I was thinking of upgrading to the latest version where this error might be avoided.I run 2019.
Just for laffs I activated the Update feature from the main app and the response said the Update feature needs to be updated.Maybe its just turtles all the way down ?

You'll have to find this out for yourself, I haven't ran Nero in a long time. I assume it's for burning optical discs and I hardly ever do that, think I have ONE DVDRW drive left in a system, only to read random DVDS/CDs.
