Again, you're not understanding the power 100MPH winds have.

In both the Eaton fire and palisades fire structures BLOCKS away from the main fire burned individually, then spread to surrounding homes.

Why? Because in 100MPH winds, zones are meaningless.

You are not understanding the danger of burning embers to ignite structures far head of a wind driven fire. Those structures probably either had ember intrusion or combustible material against those structures that caught on fire from embers.

Ask yourself why the house in white is still standing?

The budget went up 9% yoy, so maybe people should stop getting their facts from twitter and repeating them: https://www.latimes.com/california/...the-l-a-fire-department-really-cut-its-budget

The increase mostly went to higher wages, though. But this is why it is impossible to effectively govern in this day and age, nothing but bullshit. No one wants to be taxes, but everyone wants captain America. If you ever try to cut any budget, people lose their shit.

How come no one is giving NC and Florida shit for how bad their states got fucked by hurricanes this year? Where are all the sea walls Florida?
Can you cite this? Because from various sources they are stating it went down 17.6m for the fiscal year 2024-25.

https://www.newsweek.com/fact-check-did-los-angeles-cut-fire-department-funding-2011568

Bass proposed a $12.8 billion budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year in April last year.

The proposal included $814,281,952 for the fire department—with $77,957,494 for salaries and $41,324,458 for expenses.

This amounted to a decrease of $22,909,285 since the department's funding for the 2023-2024 fiscal year was $837,191,237. The estimated expenditures for that year were more than $903 million, according to the document.

The adopted budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year increased the amount for the fire department to $819,637,423, according to a summary on the city administrative officer's website. That meant the department's funding saw a decrease of $17,553,814, rather than almost $23 million.

Not interested in spin, just facts.

We had the same finger pointing when we had the last big fires here in Australia. Fires don't respect borders of electorates or states they just burn whatever is in their way.

FYI, just because you don't agree does not mean I got my info from twitter. I actually look at various reliable sources, usually outside the country of interest, to avoid any political bias.

I know why it's still standing, the real question is why is it still white?

Saw a news report that a large number of emergency equipment (trucks), are sitting in a boneyard waiting for maintenance, with not enough staff to maintain the fleet.
speaking of facts not spin can you link up the story with this information?

I asked myself why it was still standing. Photoshop is what myself told me. The real house looks just like all the neighboring houses.

Again, Embers are not going to catch noncombustible material on fire. So yes even in 100 mph winds the zones are meaningful. You make that last 5' around your house noncombustible and you harden the house against embers you stand a good chance of the firestorm blowing over your house even in 100 MPH winds.
My man, if 5' of concrete is keeping myself, my family, my pets, and my belongings from sooty annihilation, I chose the wrong place to settle. It's time to move.

What's crazy is seeing how bad these fires are at 1.5C over pre-industrial average temp. WTF is this going to look like in 30 years when we're at 2.5C over pre-industrial average? Or in 2100 when we're at 4C over pre-industrial average? I'm terrified for my niece and nephew who are 5 and 7 now and will be living the primes of their lives through an insane climate transformation that will completely destabilize this nation and the rest of the world. I honestly don't wish to be alive in 30 years to see this disaster really kick into gear.

Read the article I quoted form the LA Times. The difference is they were negotiating with the fire fighters union when the budget was passed, so a big chunk of money was put aside in an unassigned bucket based on the outcome of that negotiation. Once it was settled, that money was ear marked for the fire department, resulting in a large increase in the YoY budget.

Government finances are complex and boring, making them easy targets for misinformation, even if not intentional.

His point is that there is nothing flammable on or close to the house to catch the house on fire. It doesn't matter how many cinders hit it if there is nothing flammable.

There was also a revenue shortfall, so the city was forced to cut from this year's budget. As noted, LAFD's total spending was up about $53M over the previous year.

Nothing can be done because it is out of our control.
Nothing will be done because it is just too expensive and unrealistic.
But we'll keep increasing taxes and regulations for your own good!
