Those personal info sites you can use to find people are likely getting their info from Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Facebook, credit agencies, your local courts, and other "public" sources.

I've spent so much money on TikTok lol. Stupid targeted ads & cheap prices!!
Oh yeah- not sure how they sell stuff for less than Amazon My wife HAD to have that stupid dancing cactus from last Christmas, and I got that crank vegetable slicer that's actually really nice.

I can't imagine installing any social media app on my phone, they all spy on you like mad. Facebook is just as bad. Or just having stock android for that matter. It's Google. They are the king of spying. They can still spy on you via the web but with the phone they have access to way more, such as your voice and cameras and your contacts.
Well the "stock android" might be a requirement soon- Google is going to start locking down rooted phones and restricting Play Store access.

That's a scary thought, hopefully there will be other options if that happens. There really needs to be a proper open source phone but it's such a huge undertaking that there's no one with the resources to do that. The touch screen alone would be a very hard thing to do. Then there's the RF parts, which need to be certified etc.

Your hardware and OS have to be authenticated to use cloud services.
With custom rom I would not be using cloud services though, or is RCS itself considered part of cloud? I thought it was just a messaging protocol so couldn't someone just make a client or is it more involved than that?

I think it bypasses Amazon's drop-shipping system to ship straight from either China or the importer in America. Plus I usually wait until there's like a 20% off coupon & free shipping or whatever.

The food stuff is usually pretty good too. I get different spices & whatnot directly from the vendors on TikTok. I got that viral Chamoy sauce for fruit the other day & it's actually pretty awesome haha:

I prefer youtube shorts and msn videos

Whoa, guess we found out the single user of Quibi!

only American controlled disinfo is allowed i guess

Oh, hi, I see you're new here.

The amount of people raging about Chinese spying on them (so they can sell them more butt grade shit, or knockoff luxury goods so they can pretend to be living the good life) that give zero shits about US corporations using the same data to fuck them over (everything from health care, to insurance, to getting into a school or getting a job), well, its the modern American way. Bitch about everyone else doing the same shit you/Americans are doing worse than anybody.

I mean, Kia and Nissan (not sure if should give them at least a "well at least they're honest" because all the car companies are likely doing that but just not being forthright about it, or be so appalled that I make a joke about how Kia made their cars easy to steal so they can access more peoples' data) straight up say they'll track and sell data about your sex life (and everything else, they go out of their way to specifically say they track and sell data about your sex life though), but oh my god did you see the TikTok user agreement? Oh, you didn't even get the opportunity to agree to modern cars doing that because car companies take you even being a passenger in the car as you agreeing to those terms?

And lest you think VPNs and the like will protect you, the NSA (and likely others) have means of infiltrating VPNs, and using one will likely flag your for scrutiny. At this point, lack of data about you is also a data point. And what they don't get from you they'll get from the other people in your life.

There's also growing evidence that billionaires are now using spying tools that used to be only available to nation-states.

But TikTok, that's where we should focus.

The only time I've been to TikTok is when I followed a link there.

I follow nearly 8,000 people on Tiktok (yay ADHD lol). The benefits are:

* Short-form video. I don't have the attention span for Youtube. Saves me from boredom waiting in lines, for meetings, etc.
* Low barrier to entry. Just hit record. Make content about your niche. I follow soooo many amazing people!
* Incredible algorithm. Better than google
* Best comment system on the Internet; I've learned SO MUCH. Youtube is a cesspool. Facebook is angry.

My primary topics are:

* Humor & entertainment (it's like the world's biggest talent show with ALL the class clowns!)
* Music
* News
* Self-help & motivation
* IT
* AI
* Cooking
* Crafting (3D printing, Cricut, etc.)
* Fitness
* New products (food, tools, etc.)

The personalized content creation format is like having a friend "in the know" in any niche you want to learn more about or be entertained by. For example, I've learned more about cooking in 2 years on Tiktok than I did running a restaurant for 4 years. Some favorites are:

* 6-minute maple-miso salmon
* Cowboy butter (with steak & eggs)
* Hummus, steak, and pita

There are people who only see Tiktok as the "dance trend app from China" & then there are those like me who see it as the greatest learning & sharing platform on the planet. In all seriousness, my life is so much better because of Tiktok.

I'll take "what is hyperbole" for 500 please Alex.

Here's the thing:

1. Google searches the Internet
2. Wikipedia has articles
3. Tiktok allows anyone anywhere to just hit "record" to create video content

The barrier to entry was previously too high for many people to easily share:
'
1. You had to make a webpage
2. You had to create a video & then upload it to Youtube
3. If it's something like Instagram or Facebook, it's too easy for content to get lost in an ocean of content or in private groups

People who would never previously have shared information online are on Tiktok because:

1. It's easy to create content
2. The algorithm for finding relevant content is fantastic
3. For niche content, the comments are generally pretty good (ex. cooking, 3D printing, etc.)

tbh it feels a bit like how ATOT used to be a decade or two ago when things were more active.

There's a lot of morons out there too. The ability to make a video and speak convincingly doesn't mean they know what they're talking about. I see youtube videos that have a good chance of getting someone killed. From people with lots of followers, and narrated with authority. If you don't know what you're doing, you don't know what you're being told is wrong.

Youtube has "shorts" now too which is basically same idea as Tiktok. I find their site is cleaner and easier to navigate. Although they should be more clear about how to upload a short. You have to film it vertically, and you have to put #short hashtag in the title or description, but they're not clear on this during the upload process. Never uploaded to Tiktok so not sure what their process is like, I don't have an account or plan to make one.

Never used tiktok though I've been known to doom scroll imgur which has a lot of tiktok content. Youtube without ad blockers and no script is damn near unusable now. I didn't realize how bad it had gotten until google blocked ad blockers in chrome. We used youtube for quite a bit of training at work but that has become difficult as we use chrome and we don't know what garbage ads will pop up in the middle of training. Man again ads in the middle of sexual harassment training would be awkward.

google etc has made searching for content a pain

First it was the SEO ranking garbage, i.e. having to write a 12-page recipe essay & call it "THE BEST", now it's Google's AI summary. They actually have a pre-AI Chrome extension available:

The government is quick to ban Tiktok, but ignores stuff like this:
