I think if prices shoot up most people are probably gonna be pretty pissed.
Sort of. Just have to make sure to spread that discontent over social media too, since people largely react to what they see in their social groups more than anything else.

As the premier forum for crankiness I'm sure social media will not lack for this content should it come to pass. Going to be funny to watch Trump lean on Zuckerberg/Musk to try to tamp it down through censoring posts.

What to make of these poll results?

Curious how they break down by demographics, i.e. are opinions the same among Muslim Indians as Hindus? (I'm guessing they see him as a transactional strongman of a type they understand and reckon they can do deals with?).

I suppose the Saudi and Russian results aren't surprising.

And how reliable are poll results from China or Brazil likely to be anyway?

The hardest one to make sense of is that 26% of _Ukrainians_ think a Trump Presidency will be good for them (as opposed to 20% thinking it will be bad). I can't work out the reasoning there at all.

I guess nobody is thinking very much about climate change as an issue, though.

Frustration with the status quo in the war where US strategy (such as it is) has basically boxed them into losing very slowly.

Yes, I look forward to the same people who complained about the Biden admin “pressuring” social media, be completely silent as the social media platforms now being ran by “the government” actually engage in censorship. It’ll be just one more thing they are hypocrites about.

Before Trump tries to take credit for any lower food prices, eggs here went up from $2.39 to 4.49 in the last month due to bird flu

When prices return to normal Trump will try taking credit. Just putting out the truth in advance.

There is no cost unless Trump's supporter rebel.

Really? And what use do Trump have of the maga base now? Seriously?
Nothing.
So under the bus they go.

Ah maybe not the first year or two at least until he has replaced the generals (Is Flynn making a comeback?) and taken control of the military brass.

Cant have the base turn up with torches and pitchforks before that.

I find it morbidly entertaining that your last line of defense against the R propaganda apparatus in the information space is BlueSky. Yea good luck with that.

Paul Krugman is on that job too! He has a good interview article on Alternet today, explaining why Trump voters are being “brutally scammed”. Hmm, google found it on New Republic.

edit: your link didn't show when I originally replied. Removed my dupe.

He's also leaving the NYT and moving to substack.

I think the lesson here is that a lot of R voters don't give a shit and choose to remain ignorant. They will never hear about the bullshit. They certainly don't read and seek out truth.

I dont know what the answer is here, but until the Democratic machine understands this andcomes up with a way to inform the masses, we will remain in the slide to the bottom.

It's not just the R voters. It's a good chunk across the spectrum. Those voters were happy to take their cues from their social circles, but now they're hooked into a 24/7 social rage machine that feeds them whatever their algorithm thinks they want to hear about. And there is intense psychological pressure for humans to adopt opinions that they think will help them fit in with their group.

Relatedly, I saw a semi-viral post this morning where someone blamed Obama for not bullying pulpit-ing enough to get a public option, completely misremembering history that they claimed to experience first-hand. Where did they get this nonsense from? It's all fed to them from their social media. "Some person who looks just like me and tells me things I like to hear said it, so it must be true."

Yeah, a large chunk are really too far gone at this point. And it looks like the momentum of the "slide" is picking up. The changes just since the election are not encouraging.

I think we're closer to guillotines than normal democratic processes. At least as far as a solution goes.

Um, Obama did abdicate his leadership role in the development of the ACA. He got the ball rolling in Congress and then wandered off to look at flowers or something, squandering the enormous political capital he started with. The result might have been the same if he had put more effort into it but we'll never know.

I don't hold Obama responsible for Joe Lieberman being the selfish prick that was basically the core of his entire personality.

Edit: Forgot he died last year. Remembering that is actually a nice start to the day.

Nothing Congress likes more than the president meddling in the nitty gritty of their legislation.

The public option did pass on the House. It did not have the support needed to pass the Senate (and it wasn't just Lieberman).

You mean MUCK and ramaSWAMPY
I know they're pieces of shit, but those are seriously terrible names on par with how trump characterizes people he doesn't like. Terrible as in they are childish and lack any sense of creativity. You can do better than that.
