Goldilocks rally. Hopefully it doesn't get ruined with world politics, tariffs and retaliation tariffs.

Crypto looks interesting 🤔

Um, no. Apple is #1 by market cap. It just has been one of the worst S&P500 stock market returns so far this year. That does not mean that it will be dropped. It would only be dropped if Apple really, really, really tanks (and I can't see that in the near future). I don't even know how you become ranked #501 in performance out of 500 companies. That is like saying if my left pinky finger becomes my 11th favorite finger, then I'll cut it of. How can one of 10 fingers become my 11th favorite?

I've been putting my money into SGOV (3-mth treasury fund) recently since I have some expenses coming up this year. It works well for short term returns with almost no risk to the principal.

I'm looking at SOFI at 17.. I had a chance to get it at 14 but thought no.. people made easy money getting it at 4.

I'm beginning to agree with some of you here.. by the time you read about a company being good and on the upside in the news.. you've already missed the train.

That's why it's best to stick to tried and true broad market index funds. If you want to gamble a little with individual stocks, do whatever floats your boat.

Someone mentioned NET at the beginning of this thread... 👍

Theyre a foundation of the modern web, not as sexy as some but solid!

That was probably me. NET was my best investment last year.

It's been a wild ride. I had some NET from way back when that I had been aimlessly holding and when NET popped into the 90's I bought some more . I read that NET might hit $150 this year.

Of course then NET had a brutal drop from like $100 to $70. Dark days those were. I wasn't sure what to do. I almost sold and got out. But then I remembered a quote by an esteemed philosopher:

"If every instinct you have is wrong then the opposite must be correct"

(ok I kind of made that up but not completely)

So instead of selling I added shares in the 70's. And sure enough - NET started to come back. It crawled back into the 80's then 90's and then popped to around $110-$115. And now it's over $120.

So I'm left with some enviable options:

NET reports on 2/6. Do I sell on 2/5? The 2/7 calls are off the charts so some people are obviously expecting an earnings surprise. Do I sell those calls? The 1/31 calls don't yield much but it might be free money. Do I try to sell both?

Or do I just hold the entire batch until I retire many years from now and hope it keeps going up?

Well I'm biased towards holding in general. At least when it comes to companies that do things that can't easily be done by others.

In my mind what NET does has become essential to the internet (thinking DDOS protection specifically but there might be more) and theyre looking to the future (things like zero-trust). So I don't see it as being "trendy" and something to get rid of after a pump upward.

I wonder if this 'bird flu' thing is going to result in a COVID style market crash...

If anything we might not have affordable eggs for years if this gets out of control.

I got into the stock market yesterday and made my first mistake and loss.

Accidently bought the wrong company (had it as a backup on my paper).

Didn't realize my mistake till later in the afternoon It bounced back up to within 1% and I took a loss which cost me $14.83. LUCKY I guess!

Lessons learned..
1. only go with companies you 100% like.
2. don't use scribbled research paper for final order. Redo the list cleanly.

I don't know how you day traders manage the stress.. I'm going to be a buy and hold guy but I should at least buy the CORRECT stock!

Next stop: Index Funds later this year and I sure hope I don't buy the wrong one by getting key wrong.. like VOOG instead of VOO.

BTW I found this interesting:

Oh and I was thinking that this might be a really good time for someone to come out with an ETF that's not got Tesla in it..

couldn't find anything else except for XMAG but it has a 0.30% expense ratio.. quite hefty compared to VOO 0.03%

Anyone have any ideas?

I am getting a big lesson in not to buy what I think is overpriced stock because of FOMO.

The saving grace is I started with $2100 in NVDA, AVGO & Google not a bigger figure as I wanted to just get my feet wet.

Feels like buying a new used $6000 car and realizing it's worth $4000 back to the dealer.

Wife’s company stock that makes up 20% of our portfolio is doing the work today to cancel out losses everywhere else. Up >5% and rising for reasons unknown to me.

If the tech correction really happens maybe I can start buying VTI again. I’ve been avoiding it for months because of the shit stats on equity risk premium vs treasuries.

Holy smokes.. I don't know how to say this..

I got curious over that $14.83 loss on Friday but apparently it wasn't a bad thing vs staying in it..

Bought at 147.89, Sold at 146.85
